*resists the urge to summon her giant mallet* EVIL! You are pure, unsaturated evil! (I have no clue what saturated means. But it seemed fitting.)

*tries to look innocent, but fails* (Eh, I won't look too deeply into the meaning of saturated and unsaturated and just assume you mean undiluted/pure evil. XP )

*summons the mallet anyway, and bangs it on the ground threateningly* Vote for the contest, and you shall be redeemed.

"Not a Goddess" really sparked my interest. I'd love to know what happens to her next and who has her captive. I'd also like to know what the muse's name is. ^_^

I have more of it written out in a notebook, but I'm unhappy with where it goes from that point on. And I can't remember ever naming the muse. I know her captor always calls her Mair though...

(Alright, I've been really busy and so I decided to simply post the first chapter of TCE in segments. It's better than nothing so no whining.) That meens you sweety!

Katie missed Dan's funeral by a full week. She had spent the time unconscious in the hospital. When she woke up she could tell by people's expressions when she asked how Dan was that her friend hadn't survived the crash. It made her numb to think about it. If she hadn't called and Dan hadn't come to get her from that stupid little shop then they might still have been alive and enjoying life together. But that wasn't the way things worked out. Instead, it was just her now...half of a great duo. Nothing was the same, not even she was the same.

Months passed and slowly Katie began to come out of the depression that followed the crash. She stopped partying and drinking. No one asked why or complained. In those months she changed drastically. Those same people she had only just disliked to party with, she now hated. Each tried to tell her that she had nothing to do with Dan's death and almost all of them tried to make their pain public. They set up a road-side cross, interviewed with the press, and tried to make a goddess out of Dan.

But Dan had been a binge drinking, class failing, pot smoking, b***h. She was wild, making her own rules to life and never let anyone stand in her way. This caused a great many arguements between her and those who didn't agree with how she lived. But they all seemed to forget this once she was gone. It made Katie even more alienated than she had been before Dan's death because she refused to believe in Saint Danielle.

Katie had always thought people who visited grave sites of their friends and families were a bit off. It wasn't like talking to a grave site was talking to the person you lost. They weren't really there anymore. But, she didn't know where else Dan might be. She had never believed in heaven and hell or any afterlife. But she had to start wondering what happened to someone when they died. She did most of this wondering when she was visiting Dan's grave. Even if Dan wasn't there it felt good to feel like she was still talking to her old friend.

She lay on the grass beside the grave, looking up at the sky. An oak tree sent shade over the ground in patches. The sun was blocked by the leaves, leaving the grave site feeling deceptively serene. She sighed and closed her eyes.

"Sorry I haven't come back to visit before now. It's been weird for me. Things are slowly returning to the way they were, just without you. It still feels like you're on vacation or something..." Her voice trailed off and for a while she lay there in silence. "Jenny was accepted into Alpha-Beta Sorority. I haven't let her live it down. Mr. Stevens was caught sleeping with the gym teacher. It's a pretty big scandal. His wife filed for a divorce and he hasn't been to class in two weeks. Amy and Seth broke up... again. And are now back together... again." Katie smiled as she thought of it. "I guess some things just never change..."

Nice so far! A common beginning, but I'm by no means bored. It feels like...well, it could be someone I know in high school, and it makes it feel real.

I assure you, a common beginning for me never leads to a common story. And, because I'm a curious person... common in what way?

I think a lot of Teen Fiction starts with car crashes or wild parties. But that's just a guess.

Hmm, stereotypically maybe... but again, an ordinary beginning with me... well, just wait and see if the story stays as common as the beginning.

(More of TCE)

Silence descended between Katie and the grave. If this had been any sort of normal conversation Dan would be chattering away and there would be no silence. But now that Dan was forever silenced Katie found herself needing to talk a lot more to keep up a slightly normal feeling. She had always been the quieter of the two and it had always suited her just fine. She liked listening more than talking. Dan had been just the opposite.

Katie could think of nothing to say. She had covered all the topics of small talk she could think of and silence loomed over the grave again. The weather was starting to change, the sky filling with non-descript grey clouds. The wind had picked up as well, stirring the leaves on the tree every once in a while with an increasingly strong gust.

"It's going to storm." She said, more to Dan than to herself. "I'll come back to visit again as soon as I can." The quiet of the grave seemed to be silently scrutinizing her, as if it knew that she would not be returning for a very long time, or at all. Feeling a bit guilty, Katie stood up and started to walk past the other graves.

Had many taken the deaths of all these people as hardly as she had taken Dan's? How had they died? Did anyone ever come and visit their graves? Were some happy they were gone? She frowned as she walked, reading a few of the graves as she passed. Emiline had only been eight when she had died. The next grave belonged to someone who had lived to be 98. It was so odd that people died at all different agee... that some had the chance to live so many years whiles others had only a brief chance at life.

Leaving the graveyard she headed back towards home, deciding to take some of the back roads. She had come to the cemetery by the means of Main Street and didn't want to walk it again that same day.

More than just the weather had changed since Katie had entered the graveyard. But the second change was subtle and something she was certain only she could feel. It wasn't uncommon for Katie to feel like she was being watched or followed. But usually when she got the feeling it was at night and walking alone. But neither of those things were true this time.

M'kay... this is my farewell... I leave in about six days for my year abroad and I doubt I'll be able to post much. So, good-bye!
