Tiredsushi It all depends on your situation in my opinion and the housing and time you can offer. I wouldn't have more than 2 at any given time for pets personally...>.> And I typically prefer only 1...>.< I love mice/rats/most all animals you can possible name and their food source. But I wouldn't want 20 >.< The Smell... would be really hard to keep up with >< Well you shouldn't only have one, since they are so social. Currently I have seven rats. Two boys, and five girls (two of them I have only had for six days, they don't have names).

It's true and not at the same time.....I have two and the younger one (only by three months) has started beating up on my Rupie all of the sudden......when the rats get older, haveing other rats can be dangerous

If it gets bad, they can be neutered (or in the rare case of an agressive female, they can be spayed). They still very much need companions. http://ratfanclub.org/single.htmlQuote: Occasionally a rat will be too aggressive to live with another. Males who are often used for stud or who weren't introduced to a companion when young, may fall into this category. In some cases there is little alternative to keeping them alone. But in many cases, all that's required is a more gradual introduction process or neutering. Most rats are not so vicious that they need to be kept in solitary confinement!

Yeah, but I've seen it in other rats too.... btw, Rupie is doing fine, she can hold her own. I think they maybe got into a fight over the rat bones.

Too many?! There's no such thing!! There's only "not enough".
I've had 13 all at different times. It's just not me unless I have rat piddle all over my clothes.... and desk..... and chair.... and if my keyboard keys don't stick it's just not right....
The most I've had at any given time is 5. 3 girls, 2 boys; 5 girls; and now I have 4 girls and 1 boy. I guess 5 is my number. One is too lonely, 6 is too crowded; somewhere inbetween works for me.

If the person is willing to spend a lot of time cleaning and socializing with the animals, then I say have all the rats you want. I wouldn't go above twenty though. o-o The worst things start to happen when people hoard and take in more animals than they are able to deal with.
I myself would only want two or three at a time.
