1. agree with judging
2. agree with entry fees and such
3. agree with disqualifying judges from contests that they themselves are judging.
4. I really don't agree with this bit. It forces the poet to find a new way to say what he/she feels. I understand that it is harder, which challenges the poet, thus making it not only more satisfying a project, but also fresh and new.
5. I agree with this as well.
6. Agreed here too.
7. Hmmm, this is a tough one. You see, with very few crew members, it makes it difficult to judge every single one at the very end. Unless everyone was willing to wait for us to judge everything and critique them and such, I would suggest that we judge them as they come and keep notes on them so that we could pass judgment sooner and it would be more of an efficient "machine."
8. Indeed, all members should be encourage to participate, the number of those that would is very uncertain though.
Overall, I agree with most of this. Just two things that I'm a little critical about, but otherwise, I believe this are good ideas. Thank you for your input on the matter.

Every month there can be several different catagories of poetry contests, based in content, style, and structure. Towards the end of the month, the contests would be closed and a poll set up for the guild members to vote for their favorites, so no judging nor favoring need be involved. Donations would be used as prizes, but I don't think that many people here are in it for the prizes - merely the esteem.

That is not a bad idea, though an entire month just seems too long to me. Hmm, I agree with the prize idea and the voting idea as well.

I really like Jhosephiine's idea. And I think it's about time we got this show on the road... seriously... there's been talk and talk and talk... just DO IT. If the guild won't start one up, then I will. stare

Don't worry about it Dante. With Isis not being here much, I believe I will use the reserved section to do just that. It won't be today or tomorrow, but I will start things up. As a matter of fact I will be the one giving out the prizes. It will be restricted to gold for now considering that I don't have the spare items to dish out, but it will be alright.

I definitely didn't notice this topic before now. I said this somewhere else but I think holding a poetry competition in the writers forum for people other then the members here would be a good idea because it would be good advertising for new members for the guild.
I think having some contests with restrictions and rules would be cool, like making it be within a certain length, a certain subject, a certain form. Elimination style is cool where you have different topics in one contest. ex: one week no restrictions, the next week it has to be a sonnet, the following week the poem has to have some sort of allusion in it...those would be rounds and a few would be eliminated after each one.

If the contests can be done monthly then you can showcase the top three every month but there is the case of reviewing alot of poetry and so little time so maybe every month a different catagory, for example december the winner could have the best christmas poem and on the non-holiday months it could be the most emotional poem or a poem about an adventure. Something to lessen the stress on the judges for ranking the best poem.

Though normally that would be a wonderful idea, I have come to grips with the reality that the people here are generally not so active so even pulling together enough poems to do that would be a hassle.
Even if we could get BARELY enough poems to carry out that idea, it would most likely be the SAME three people, and thus, bore me to tears....a little change every so often is nice.
