You can't say that, some companies offer a boxed version of there distro and you have to pay somewhere around $50 USD, for it. But it is cheaper than anything else. More things GodFly did not state is: Its a virus free world, and if choose to get a anti-virus program all it is good for is scanning windows partition (if even there)Security updates almost every week so your computer is completely secure.faster bug fixes

Hi there! I just joined after Zher PM'd me about the guild. I've been using Debian for say a year or two. My fiance is a Debian developer and has been using Linux since all times pretty much, so naturally I followed along.
I have to use a couple of Windows boxes at work occasionally and Photoshop, which I dislike very much. It's so slow and photoshop I find to be dreadfully non-intuitive. I hate that the local community college computer classes are very Windows-centric and you can't get away without a Windows box for a lot of things. I was going for some sort of computer degree but then I saw that the web design class was actually just teaching you to use FrontPage, so basically I'm an on again/off again art student. I'm not a crazy anti-Windows person, but I feel that it's irresponsible for something like a college to make it seem like Windows is the only OS, especially since its students are notoriously poor.
The only problem I have with linux of late is that compiz is the awesome, but my 2/3 year old laptop is a weebit too slow for me when i run it, and the lack of a Flash 8 driver.
Anyways, I guess that's probably enough of an introduction. I'm rather talkative today I guess. ^.^ Thanks for the acceptance into the guild!

Thanks ^.^ Oh since my name is longish (and a quote from a great movie, The Seventh Seal) feel free to shorten it unknowing if it's easier.
Also, i feel sorta dumb now. Adobe came out with Flash 9 last month! XD It installs rather smoothly and easily too.

@unknowing hmm still you need to understand Linux a bit if you want to use any but debian isn't that easy as you think but that is probably because I want more from Linux than graphic stuff.

Hey, My name's on the left there. <_< you can just call me Dan.
I use various *buntu distributions on my machines, along with Windows XP on my main laptop. I'm still in the learning stages of using *nix systems.
I founded a previous attempt at a linux guild. sweatdrop We all know how that turned out.

I prefer Gentoo, but I found I was always helping people with Ubuntu installs...and it's a bit difficult to troubleshoot a system you've never used. So I switched to Ubuntu. I find it a more bleeding edge version of debian really. Though the commercial support is nice. wink
