OOooo, I love Opeth!
I started out with Morningrise and just started picking things up from there. Its all amazing music, but my favorite would have to be Orchid. I'm rather surprised that I'm not supported in that notion, as to me it stands a level above the rest of their music.
Ghost Reveries would probably be my second favorite album, as it to is rather awesome. (Funny, first and last albums are my favorites, heh.)
Funny story, so my friend recommends Opeth and says "I'm not a big fan of the growls" (at that point I wasn't either) "but if you actually listen to the music its amazing stuff. Listen to Black Rose Immortal, as that song is godly."
I was hooked, and eventually the growls really grew on me and I love Opeth's vocals.
A similar thing happened with another one of my friends. I told him about Opeth, and so shared with him a bit of my collection. At first we listened to Orchid, but he couldn't stand the vocals, so I gave him a copy of Damnation, which he loved. From there he got Ghost Reveries, Orchid, and some more stuff and loves them as much as I.
Apparently growls are an acquired taste biggrin

Ocarina654 Apparently growls are an acquired taste biggrin I've always liked them. I'm pretty sure, anyway. Bad memory. sweatdrop Opeth is one of my favorite bands, next to Dream Theater. Mikael Akerfeldt has some of the best vocals, both clean and harsh, that I've ever heard, as well as being an excellent guitarist. Martin Lopez is an amazing drummer, one of my favorites. It's too bad (no matter how understandable) that he left. Their transitions from heavy to soft (and vice versa) is practically flawless, not something that's easy to do. My favorite album is probably Blackwater Park, as it was the one that introduced me to Opeth, but I don't dislike any of them.

i think martin lopez is making a return in a couple of years. so don't worry to much.
about mikael being a good guitarist, he clains that their key players is a better guitar player then himself! XD
the reasen i don't mention orchid is because it's one of the few albums i haven't listened yet. but i understand i really must try it? wink
opeth got me into growls too, next to mikael on ayreon.

Although I know a lot of people I know don't, I love Opeth. Who knows, maybe that's just me XD. Mikael's vocals are amazing-- he's one of my favorite male vocalists in the metal genre.
And I especially love when they put a lot of acoustic guitars in. Thus, my favorite albums would have to be Blackwater Park and Damnation. Blackwater Park is amazing, IMO. Ghost Reveries was... okay. It wasn't their best effort, but it wasn't too bad.
I used to really like vocals with growls and screams, but I don't know. I'm really enjoying actual singing in my music now more often wink .

Just don't give up on it, as it's well worth it to keep trying. wink

Then, I got more interested in the album and started listening to more songs. I just grew on me. It may do the same to you. If not, Opeth has a lot of albums, none of them bad. You'll still have a lot to listen to.

as far as i know i like everything from opeth 3nodding
but it's hard to listen, since it isn't relax music (exp damnation) and it isn't good agressive music, so i don't have any moods to listen them.
or does anyone nows the perfect timing to hear them?

number_17 as far as i know i like everything from opeth 3nodding but it's hard to listen, since it isn't relax music (exp damnation) and it isn't good agressive music, so i don't have any moods to listen them. or does anyone nows the perfect timing to hear them? I can listen to them anytime, so I guess I can't really help you. Some songs are aggressive (Ghost of Perdition, Deliverence) and some are more calming (Patterns in the Ivy, Benighted), so I guess you could be in the mood for certain songs, rather than albums. confused

I try to get into Mikael's harsh vocals, I really do..But when hearing his clean vocals, it's like '******** the harsh vocals, stick to clean'. Usually, if I want harsh vocals, I prefer it be accompanied by melo-death sounding guitars.

Usually, if I want harsh vocals, I prefer it be accompanied by melo-death sounding guitars. You'd like Damnation, then. It's an album where he only uses clean vocals.
