Just take a look at the original thread: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=1286142&page=1

And disregard the kills by Stray Bullet Shani. Technically they were "legal", but where somewhat underhanded and not really credible.

Well, you don't write their reactions, they write their reactions. Have you never fought against someone in an RP before?

Apparently not the way you're thinking, maybe I'm missing something, or maybe it's the fact I'm not used to military RP's. I feel like a noob. So wait, rugged didn't really allow for a reaction in the first one, but it becomes a fight essentialy, and I just rush in like "I'm gonna kill you now!" Giving them the option of denying my kill? I'm just confused, I thought it was go in, say that you murder them, and leave.

Well, I'll put it into sword and shield terms, perhaps we're both saying the same thing but just don't realize it.

You: *swings sword downward*
Opponent: *blocks with shield and thrusts sword towards your gut*
You: *knocks sword to left with shield, spinnin with momentum to make horizontal slash*
Opp: *takes heavy slash to arm, rendering it disalbed, drops sword*
You: "cheesy dialogue" *cuts off head*
Opp: "ugh, I've died" *dies*

If someone happens to read this thread and has a good example, please post it here.

Haha, Kard, buddy. You should have seen some of the fights that took place during the Triad RP event. THOSE where some damned fine examples....blew up a waste facility in there somewhere I believe xp

Hokay I get it now. My only problem is the people who would either

A) Refuse to die
or B) Be like "Wtf are you doing in our RP? GTFO!
Am I supposed to join this RP beforehand or just jump in unannounced and open up?

Of course, these are always the problems that one will confront in this situation, and as such, you need to "RP them into a corner" and make it so that they would have no way to be able to live. Even if they say that they'd not die, link it anyway, and if they wouldn't have been able to live, we'll give you credit anyway. wink

Also, it helps to join the RP and put in an application, even if to only immediately afterword start shooting at people.

Alright, I think I understand. I'll try it later.

Ya know Xenos, I have never actually been given a straightforward answer to this question:

If I were to join an RP, and just set up on a building's roof, say, a skyscraper, or a four-seven story tall building, and snipe someone who was far enough away to not hear my shot, but still have an effective range that he would die if it hit him, would I be told I was godmoding or controlling their character if I say:

"I fire a .50 caliber bullet from my Barrett rifle, it hits them in the back just below the shoulder blade and blows out his front, killing him before he hits the ground."

Since, if you get hit by that gun, with that caliber, you would be missing a big chunk of meat from your body. If you hit someone with that gun, say, in the leg, it would completely detach their leg, from about four inches above impact point down. So, if it hits you in the torso, you would have a gaping hole that couldn't be fixed. It it hits bone, I think its worse, if I'm not mistaken, since it would make the bullet more flat as it comes out and make an even bigger hole.

But anyway, what if I shoot someone like that, would that count? It isn't like they could hear it, and even if I blow off a leg or foot or something, i could still go up to them and kill them, or let them bleed to death.

Well see, here's the thing; can can't RP the bullet hitting them, that's just not fair. Now, if you were to fire the bullet and they RPed it, than yes, it would count. However, if they RP a feesable escape (ie: they noticed something shiny and bent over, missing their head just slightly) then that's fine. If they respond with "judo chops bullet in half with lighting fast reflexes" then I'll debate it. However, you can't just go in and set up and line up your site and fire all in one shot. That's what Shani did, he went in and in one post killed someone. If they argued, he did use supersonic rounds which would be impossible to be able to dodge. rolleyes

There's dodging, right, and then there's the shooter just happening to miss.

Even supersonic rounds can be deflected by wind or barrel damage, or may strike a glancing blow instead of a square hit.

Even laser rifles(!) will fail to hit the target if the marksman doesn't compensate for every little twitch in the environment.

Speaking of laser rifles... grumble grumble. That's for the technology and weapons sticky, though.

However, laser rifles are going to be much more accurate than their solid counterparts as that things like the wind should not have the same sort of effect on them. That and that they're moving a great deal faster. What sorts of environmental factors would have (signifigant) effect on a laser beam in under a 5km range?

And as for where you're talking about what, I don't care all that much. I'm happy if people just post, much less get it in the right place. sweatdrop
