TheNinjaGoddess Steven Hawkings TheNinjaGoddess Armchair psychology people? Have any of you stopped to think, that maybe these people are entirely normal outside of the internet, and they just like to piss people off because they think it's funny. That one fellow said he trolled because he thought peoples reactions were funny, I'll take his word for it. Going off and claiming that trolls just want attention is stupid, I'm sure it's true for some, but by and large, most people troll because they think it's funny, at least, that's what the folks at 4chan have taught me. What's the personality that you noticed of these 4chan people? I never heard of it, since a couple of weeks ago. ummmm. imagine an antire futababa board full of people who troll, trying to troll each other.... That's a living hell, in cyberspace.

So as you look at the gates of hell you laugh because someone said something funny. This would be as bad as a Nobbcon. To see spammers is annoying yes but to see spammers that are organized. That's (lack of a better phrase) Hell in a handbasket...

That's a living hell, in cyberspace. it's not so bad as it seems, but mostly because everyone who goes there is a troll so it's all good times and comradeship, and jokes, all sorts of messed up jokes. Actually, that's mostly /b/, which is 4chan's equivalent of the Chatterbox, but with more porn. Yes, I go there. There are some totally worksafe image boards and some respectable regulars who post quality images. Most of the website is dedicated to peaceful image exchange, with spamming only on occasion (like when somebody posts male porn in /s/, which is dedicated to posting images of women.) Not every 4channer is a spammer, and not every 4chan board is a spam board. The majority of users is less than intelligent, in my opinion, but far from malicious. Now, let me present an anecdote for the analysis of the guild. Since I don't know any trolls in real life, I cannot analyse their psychology as well as I might, but I think that I might have encountered the type of person who does this the other day. I was riding my bicycle home and was almost to an intersection. A car across the way and about to turn had its window rolled down and the driver (a guy of about my age and definitely between the ages of 18 and 25) was looking excitedly between me and the girl in the passenger seat (at least, I percieved this in the small span of time I had to watch; the sun was shining brightly and I had a clear view of the car.) As the car turned, he leaned his head out the window and began to yell at me. I could not understand the words, but I think I heard "f**" in there. I do know that I don't recognize him, so perhaps he was yelling at me for riding my bike (the city in which I live is notorious for being a den of autophiles. Some of them yell at anybody riding a bike, as a few people I know, as well as myself, can attest to.) Perhaps this person was one of the same people who troll in ED and the more respectable 4chan fora. Perhaps it's linked to their personalities, or the environment in which they grew up. Perhaps they're jealous of us being able to have peaceful, intellectual discourse and image trading and saving all of this money on gasoline simply because we're slightly less lazy than other people. Maybe they miss the halcyon days of school, when they could use force to get their way, and now they are utterly powerless to stop people from being intelligent, or happy, or environmentally-friendly. So perhaps Internet trolls would make a good subject for a doctoral thesis.

I'm not sure that spammers always KNOW what it is they're doing. In fact, I'm under the impression that they feel they are contributing to the forum by adding their threads... they are wrong, mind you, but still. I can't remember ever spamming...but I'm pretty sure I would have left well enough alone had I been ignored.

Stained_Steel Most spammers, I think, are a bunch of fifth graders on the Internet while Mommy and Daddy are at work. This guy seems a bit older, both due to his reasoning and his chosen screen name. I think he also said something about having roommates...anybody remember that? I think what's going on is most of these people are losers with no social life who are taking out their frustration and anger at their situations (no friends, poor grades, sucky life) on those they see as elitist. We can spell and most of us don't seem to have any great love for 4chan so we are 'elitist'. ...They might also be angry about the 4,000,000,000 threads devoted to the discussion of homosexuality. *Shrug*. I think that I might have done something very similar when I was 9 or 10. However, I also think I would have gotten over it if people ignored me, and gone back to the chatterbox like a good little noob. I dunno, I think that spammers are older than that. I've always imagined them being at least highschool age. When I was in fifth grade, I didn't use the internet, except for feeding my darling neopet. (Good times. xd ) I think the majority of all spammers are just attention-deprived, high school age people who aren't young enough to be innocent, but aren't old enough to be too mature for spamming.

we have 20-somethings here who vandalize playgrounds and churches.
some of them have family who are injured by these attacks! but that seems to make them enjoy it all the more.
to me, the things uyou mention are just a form of vandalism.

Yeah but there's different forms of vandalism I mean some people while it is illegal draw amazing artwork, graffiti. While others draw penises on the wall. So this depends on what the vandalism was.

Not all of the spammers are just kids being stupid. I swear, there are professional spammers that go out of their ways to constantly spam up the ED to make people mad. They even have different avatars to do it, too. I suppose they have a lot of time on their hands that they decide to waste on trying to tick people off over the internet.
It makes me wanna smack a... well, you know.

[Kaotic Angel] While I was in the ED current condition thread I read one post from the "lust is a hard...." Well you know the rest if you think about it. Well one thing he said was that 4channers in an anonymous person, well that didn't stick me as odd the thing he said next was, he said that this person gets mad when he's accused of spamming places he hasn't, this seems almost funny to me I mean one of the reasons I think it so that your recognized and you get publicity for it thou, I mean robbers do this, and imitation the best form of flattery right. Well then why would you get mad at this. Discuss: 1. What do you think gos threw these kids minds? 2. Do you really think they are kids? 3. In a similar instance do you think you would act the same way? 1. how best can i turn this situation into luaghs 2. no wink 3. lol, yes

Yoshimasa_the_Radiant I've always believed spammers are either bored, or resent intelligence. I mean, look at the way they talk and type. They have to be either very unintelligent or children. In either case it would be understandable if they were intimidated by intelligent people. They come to ED expecting it to be like GD, but instead they find serious, in depth discussion, so they try to drive those who they perceive to be a threat away through trolling and spamming. Its basic animalistic instinct. Look at "lust is a...", its obvious he was intimidated by many of us and the way we spoke to him. He indicated himself that he resented the fact that we could talk in peace here, so he wanted to disrupt that peace. Then, he could say that 4channers come to spam us because we know they spam us with relative sureity we would believe him. Just an idea... rofl rofl wink yes, you guys intimidate me, i'm glad the truth is out. seriously..... c'mon, scared of intelligence, that's ridiculous. the reason he started spamming that day was literally because i saw someone else spamming. and i thought it would be fun to just d**k around. but i rarely spam, it's to crude, takes no effort at all, and it isn't really all that fun.
