Fancy dress is the practise of dressing up for fun. Cosplay is fancy dress. Cross-play is fancy dress of the opposite sex. About right?

Cosplay and cross-play is usually you dressing up as some character from a popular movie or anima and such. Like dressing up as frodo from LOTR oh Chewbaca, or maybe a video game character like tidus drom FFX or sailor moon from sailor moon X3

Cosplay is a form of fancy dress, by your definition. Essentially, it's when a bunch of fans of a certain media (like, say, anime) dress up like their favorite characters from the show/movie/manga/etc. Usually, fans do this at conventions, and there is often a big to-do with picture taking and pretending to BE that character. Cross-play is when you dress up like a character of the opposite sex... like me dressing up like Chiriko (who is male).

I'm going to cosplay with some of my friends at next years anime festival. They want to go as the Sailor Scouts xd Knee high boots and a tiny skirt...yes! blaugh

I want to crossplay as someone who is a girl, yet not insanely busty/skimpy clothers wearing etc. I want my first time to be something I can ease myself into (sorry for odd innuendo sweatdrop )
