All I can think of is that he either thinks his arms are fat ( XD ) or he has scars i really must find that interview again. it would solve all of this. i keep thinking it might have been the rare one from shoxx i found translated once in a forum somewhere out there in the vast internet...that i lost when my computer crashed last year. i should find all the ones i know about and look for that little question and answer...
that way we will find out faster
It has made me very curious now ::nods:: now i am thinking the interview could have been from one of these three magazines: shoxx, orkus, or vicious...::thinks:: i really wish i could remember which magazine it was...but that is a good lead at least.

Abusive Mana So far all google came up with is fanfics v.v i know i was specifically looking for mana-sama interviews because i was writing a paper about him for college and i wanted to be as accurate as possible. i had three, two from proxemics and one random one from the internet... i found it in a random forum. someone had translated it and posted it. so, i know it is in the format of being just mana-sama and an interviewer, not with the whole band. one exception of that format was for one of the interviews, i know it was klaha era, and they were talking about the stage being too dark and mana-sama kept saying things that made everyone go quiet for a minute then burst into nervous laughter like, "...i can see in the dark..." and i think the other was a mana-sama profile from proxemics, probably the '94 interview in tetsu era? not sure. i think i might have also been looking at the one where his childhood was talked about and he revealed that he had been put in a small space as a child for punishment and that is why he is claustrophobic. somewhere in those interviews lies that one sentence to sentence exchange about his arms.

Aww not fair -pouts- read what? my essay? i think i have the first draft somewhere (all of my essays are first drafts), i could try to find it. i should probably try to round up the interviews i am talking about except for the one i can not find and provide links or something...it is possible that the notebook my first draft is in could have the missing interview in printed form in it...i shall have to look.

I'm too lazy to read what all you guys have posted, but Cohcho said someone was asking about why Mana doesn't show his arms. XDD
uhh, I don't REMEMBER reading an interview about him saying that...I might have and forgotten, but my theory is more or less that him covering his arms up is kind of part from Malice Mizer taken into his visauls today.
Back in Malice Mizer, Mana used to pretty much cover up his entire body so you couldn't be able to trace any form of "masculine" in his body. He'd wear collars a lot so you couldn't see his adam's apple, tights so you couldn't see his legs, and long sleeves so you couldn't see his masculine-like arms (even though they don't look very masculine anyway, hes probably just very self consious).
I think now days he just does it out of habbit. He was dressing that way in Malice Mizer for several years, and when you do something in routine for years and years, its hard to break that. Personally, I think he just uses that habbit of continually doing it even though he isn't trying to look like a girl anymore. Its basically just out of visuals now, to make his image look "dark and myserious".

Wow! Never let it be said that true Mana fans don't know their stuff. Thank you all SO much for the pictures and the insight. In fact, I enjoyed the insight even more I think. I have heard a few theories that maybe he was a cutter at one point, and I also like the idea that maybe he is self concious about his arms. I know most people are self concious about their upper arms, almost as much as they are about bellies, etc. And a carry on from MALICE MIZER visuals makes a TON of amazing sense.
If anyone could find that interview I would love to read it. Also, ^^, I would love to read your essay. It sounds just about as fun as it does interesting.
Now, to add tot he challenge: Shoulders. I have found quite a few pictures now, from here and elsewhere, that show almost his whole arms but I have NEVER seen his shoulders.

i think his arms look like they could be both female or male. a lovely muscular quality to them...and so soft looking... :: hits self:: brain goes: "stop going fan girl, gosh!"
