[Symph]

All things considered, a change was within the air and the peculiar teenager flicked his tail briefly, his gaze trailing across the now deserted village as night fell. At present, he was away from his home city, but news had already reached him in reference to the death of the King when the merchants had come in to 'roost' in the safety of the village - ever since their arrival the people of the village (with the exception of the children) were rather subdued.

Inwardly, his heart ached for he had by no means anticipated the death of the king to come so quickly and it seemed like such a loss but it was not that which was of the greatest worry to him. The monarch, who would it be taken by? As far as Symph was concerned the child was too young and was his older sister capable? Not only that, but would she give as much support to the church as her father had?

His lips pursed as he allowed his thoughts to run rife, his eyes remaining fixed on the village centre that he had been 'preaching' in this morning (rather he had been telling stories to the children) - if they didn't support the church then would that mean that they would be abandonned and ignored completely?

"Gods above..." He murmured softly and finally rested his head in his hands, surrendering at last to the emotions that threatened to overwhelm him.

Only time would tell he supposed but for now, he had his duties.

[Symph]

The nightly hours passed in at an uneventful pace, the silent streets offering no comfort in the given times. Symph had discovered as much as he drifted down the streets in a daze, his gaze fixed upon the ground as he navigated his way towards the minute village centre that he had become so familiar with over the last few weeks - even here he could find no Solace.

His troubled thoughts continued to plague him and as he fingered the delicate material of his robes he couldn't help but wonder how long such things would to provide such a great amount of irritation - granted, as a priest he was supposed to be capable of disciplining his thoughts when it was needed but he had never quite figured out how to do that, he held great admiration for the monks who were capable of such things but then again he held admiration for anybody who could do something that he couldn't.

Sweeping through the village centre, his robes billowing out ever so slightly in the pregenerated winds, Symph returned to the Inn where he was granted shelter in return for teachings and on the rare occasion (if he could get it to work) healing.

It was a quaint little place; warm and welcoming each time you chose to enter but as he entered now he couldn't help but notice the overwhelming sense of loss within, it seemed that all were in mourning or were asleep. Such feeligns only served to make him much more uncomfortable than before and with a sigh he simply made his way up the stairwell towards his room where he could find some quiet and perhaps he could even begin to put his thoughts down onto paper in the hope that this would remove them from the forefront of his mind.

[Memoirs of a Lyonell - Entry #1]

It has not even been an entire day since the passing of the King and already there are signs of discontent and fear brewing amongst those within the village - I am aware of the uncertainty in relation to my situation but it has taken me a great many hours to come to understand the troubled minds of those within the village.

It seems that the men of the village doubt the ascent of the Princess to the throne until such times as her younger brother can take up his position in society - such is the trouble of living in such areas where age old traditions fail to evolve at the same pace as those of the cities.

I would not question Princess Caliope's judgement in that respect but in regards to my own thoughts and feelings, I cannot help but be troubled by the threat now placed upon the Church. For so long we have been viewed in the highest regard, we have been respected and revered but as the King dies it appears that a part of this respect goes with him - if Caliope was to ascend then would we be appreciated as we were before?

The uncertainty only helps to increase my own fears, fears that I cannot show for fear that those within the village may sense the discontent but still - I am only a simple Lyonell and I sincerely doubt I can hide my feelings for too long.

Perhaps it would therefore be wiser to return to the city to seek solace, or would this only cause to make the villagers feel abandonned and even more uncertain?

I do not know, but evidently fate lies within God's hands as it always has and I pray that the deity does smile upon us in these uneasy times...

Colors weaved silently on the soft light streaming through the window in Symph's room. It wove into a a blanket of light and color, tugging at Symph's own colors in a gentle greeting. As the weaves of familiar colors -deep garnet, diamond, and sapphire - strengthened a 'voice' spoke in musical tones to the young Lyonell:

Though you are still untrained in many ways, it time for you to return back to your kingdom. I cannot watch everything on light, and I need to know what's going to become of that place. You will go there as my eyes and ears, and on the next cloudless day I'll contact you again.

With the subtle strength wrapped gentleness, the voice and its intensity of colors which were belong to the Lord of the Dhimari Keep were gone just as they came, leaving Symph back in the greyer realm of the physical.

Never in his life did he remember being contacted in such a manner, or at least if he had been then he had probably forgotten it for some bizarre reason. He paused briefly as he mulled the words over in his mind before nodding ever so slightly in reply, he recognised the voice and was rather startled to hear it to say the least however he did prepare himself to take leave of the village and to return to the city.

Despite the fact that when he returned to the city he would have to endure his family once more, berating him for his lowly position within the church but that wasn't of import. What was of import was the fact that he must leave as soon as possible to ensure that he performed his duties towards the Keep accordingly and with a small sigh he rose to his feet and proceeded to pack what few personal belongings he had into his back pack.

Considering the Dawn was approaching rather rapidly he would soon have to leave anyway but first he must make preparations:

- To find some type of transportation as he could not walk the entire way back.
- Sufficient supplies of food and water.
- To ensure that no one assumed his absence meant that bad things were about to happen.

When they were done he would finally take his leave for the city once more.

[Symph]

It had taken him quite sometime to reassure the people of the village that he was returning for reasons that were not to do with the recent death of the King but, once he had been successful in his assurances he was able to gain the aid of a travelling merchant who was going in the same direction as he was.

The travel was free of charge for the people were aware that he didn't carry a great deal of money and as a result, he now sat at the front of the carts, a small bag upon his lap and his gaze trained on the roads ahead - he knew they would be breaking eventually to feed and water the horses but he couldn't help but feel a sense of urgency brewing within him.

He was to be the eyes and ears? He failed to understand why someone of his caliber would even be considered for that type of role, after all, how far could one such as he see? He held no positions of authority so he couldn't see into important buildings, all he could see were the people of the city which was in itself important - but anybody could do that, couldn't they?

He released a sigh, and bowing his head he allowed his eyes to close as he drifted off into a half doze and partially into his erratic thoughts...

Unfortunately, Symph wasn't the only one who was slipping into a half doze. The cart driver also felt the lazy morning sun creeping up and was lured into a light doze. Normally, the equidynes would have trudged along fine, but they became spooked as a rabid ra-byte darted in front of it, teeth bared. The equidyne reared, letting out a great whine, then stampeded forward.... right off the road as it took a curve. The cart-driver awoke with a start when the equidyne whined, which was just a second too late. The cart bounced wildly, shaking all the compartments and passengers with disregard. It finally stopped after a great effort from the driver, and a loud crack. They'd landed themselves in a ditch about 10 measures away from the road.
After calming the equidynes and taking a look at the cart, it was discovered that a good third of their crystal goblets had broken, along with one of the cart axels. They would be delayed the rest of the day. The lead merchant approached Symph, speaking in apologetic tones.
"I know you are in a hurry. But we'll be delayed at least for the rest of the day. You'll know our stand in the market by the color of our banners. Why don't you borrow one of the equidynes we brought and ride ahead? Caullis is a good stallion, and he'll see you safely to the city." Then with a bit of thought about how he'd never seen Symph ride a equidyne... "You... do know how to ride, don't you?"
PostPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2005 3:18 am

[Symph]

Well, he wasn't the best rider in the world but he did know how to ride to an extent - he knew how to maintain his balance and to change his gait but when it came to endurance, well, he sincerely doubted that he would be capable of surviving the arduous journey back towards the city as he hadn't ridden quite as much as his brother or father had.

For a long while he was silent and then he gave a small, courteous smile before nodding. He could ride, that was for definate but he was not about to say that he lacked endurance when his journey to the city was somewhat urgent and so, he cleared his throat as though preparing to accept the offer and gave a low bow.

"Yes, I can ride and your offer is very generous." He murmured softly, "It would be a pleasure to borrow one of your steeds to reach the city." He added, taking note of the coloured banners and what he would be required to do once he reached the city itself - return the steed, avoid his parents and then what?

"Very well" The merchant called over one of his hired help and hand them bring the Stallion, Caullis. The grey-ish beast with soft brown eyes was lead over with proud steps. "He's a good equidyne, and sure footed. He's the calmest male we've purchased thus far."

With that, the equidyne was properly saddled, and some supplies of food and water, and a basic sleeping pack were equiped on him. The reins were handed over to Symph with a slight grunt from the equidyne.

[Symph]

Why did he always get the distinct suspicion that something was wrong when a horse snorted at him? He gave a smile of thanks to the merchant and calmly slipped his travel bag onto his shoulder before taking the reins and beginning to make his way in the direction of his homeland. Granted, it only seemed that he was walking for a while in order to stretch his legs but there was also another reason - said reason was to avoid any chaos until out of the view of the merchants so that he wouldn't be completely humiliated!

That being said however, he did offer a wry smile to his new mount and calmly patted at it's neck in greeting, "Well, I suppose introductions are in order." He mused in a cheerful voice despite the slight apprehension he felt within himself at that precise moment in time.

"I am Symph an alocyte from the Church and according to your masters, you are called Caullis?" He gave another nod thoughtfully and then released a quiet sigh through parted lips, "So how do you feel about being my mount for a little while - good, bad, otherwise comfortable with it?" He continued although he was well aware that he wouldn't get a reply.

The beast, acting friendl-enough, nosed it's face into Symph's chest playfully. It's soft brown eyes looked pleasant, and the it pranced it's front feet as if eager to get going. The tail whipped a little, and the equidyne let out a low neigh, as if to say, "let's go!"

[Symph]

Well the reply seemed to be rather good, the equine being seemed relatively gentle and with a small smile of satisfaction the lyonell launched himself onto the mount's back and adjusted his position to get himself comfortable, that then done he grasped the reins more firmly and pressed his heels against the side of his new mount and waited patiently for him to proceed forward - considering the distance they would have to travel he would at least reach the tavern by nightfall and there he could rest.

When morning would next come he would be certain to return the mount as well before making his way into the city a little more but one little thing did continue to plague his mind - that nagging sensation that he often got when he had forgotten something...

Where in the name of the gods was he supposed to be going once he reached the city?!

The equidyne snorted again as Symph got on, prancing it's front feet. However, the beast ignored the heels being dug into his side as an indicator to move. He snorted again, giving a shake of his head, a flick of his tail, and stood there.

[Symph]

Oh he knew it was too good to be true - stubborn bloody mount, he should have known this would happen! With a sigh, the young alocyte didn't even bother to argue and instead he simply dismounted and took a hold of the reins in his hands - from there, he moved around to the side of the creature's head and allowed himself to glare disapprovingly towards it for he did not appreciate being held up.

"Do you get a kick out of causing me absolute hell?" He enquired curiously, "Do you find it fun to delay important business purely because you haven't got anything better to do?" His frown depended and he turned his gaze towards the direction of the city before releasing a sigh and shaking his head.

"I'm never going to get thereo n time...so much for being punctual."

Now he remembered why he hated riding.

The beast snorted and stamped its front left foot repeatedly while getting scolded. His earslayed back flat, and his tail swishedback and forth. He lowered his head down and took a couple steps forward, and jutted his head below Symph. Then in a single swift movement, the equidyne propelled symph onto his back like a sack of grain, with Symph landing hard on his stomach in the saddle. The Equidyne immediately took a couple steps forward, as if checking how balanced the dishevled lyonell was. Seemingly satisfied, Caullis broke into a gallop, carrying the two of them swiftly to the town.
