Sakura #1 ninja Yea, well because he saw more of the gate because his WHOLE body was taken and well you know how Ed learned how to to the transmutation when he went through the gate? Well think if Ed learned a bit of this and that , think how much alphonse learned. agreed.

At the end of the series, I thought it was possible that Al could surpass Ed. After I saw the movie though, I think Ed was more advanced because he used alchemy longer than Al did. 3nodding

Oh, geez. I guess it depends if we're talking about the anime or the manga, eh? Some of you have said that Ed would still surpass since "he's able to use the stone," or whatever. Which, yea, is kinda impossible in the manga (as of yet).
I'm torn up now! You've thrown me off so much. I don't even know anymore.
I like to think that Ed will continue to be better than Al since this guild is for fangirls of Ed, and not Al. (Not that Al isn't cute and all, but whatever.) And besides, when Al learned that he could perform alchemy by clapping as well, he was like, "WTF," whereas Ed, at the beginning of the manga, wasn't complaining about it feeling weird and stuff like that. Maybe it's just me.
And it might just be because, in the manga, Ed does all the talking... and Al just sort of... shuffles around. That could account for why we all think Ed is superior... xD. EVEN SO. I still think that Ed owns. And Al owns in his own way.
If we're talking about the anime, I don't think Al will ever surpass Ed, because even in the movie he needed arrays.
Though, in the anime, they say that Al completed the test while Ed didn't make it to the end. IMHO, that is TOTAL BS and would never have happened in the manga. This is why the manga is made of awesome and win!
