Went to DEA homepage, and sort of hit a block...apparently I need a credit card.. neutral

And what evidence?

No, you don't. You click on "Drug Scheduling" on the left sidebar. No credit card required.

In the Netherlands, they legalized the usage of small quantities of marijuana. The overall level of marijuana use briefly rose, and then dropped below the original rate. Look it up yourself.

Found a "Controlled Substance Schedules" link..kind of confusing...

Anyhoo, I thought the person that claims something has to look it up.

Not if it's commonly-known fact.

What on earth is confusing about the scheduling link? Read the definitions, it's painfully straightforward. Look, if you don't even understand the drug scheduling system, I don't think it's too wrong of me to go out on a limb here and suggest that you're not educated enough on this topic to be debating it.

There are no definitions. I think we are talking about different links, as there is no "drug scheduling" link at the left.

Yes, there is. To the left, under drug policy:

http://www.dea.gov/pubs/scheduling.html

There's another DEA site? What the ********? There is only one "dea.gov" and if you didn't notice that you weren't looking at the government site, I'm going to suggest that your net skills in general aren't too hot.

I take offence at your suggestion. One mistake is not significant. (And if you had bothered to post the link..)

This was a .gov too, but was not simply "dea.gov".

You didn't make one mistake. It would have been one mistake if you'd realized you weren't on the DEA's actual website, and then corrected yourself and looked up the right website instead of coming back here to complain that the sidebar didn't exist.

Why on earth should I be bothered to post the link? Do I have to post a link to Google when I tell someone to search for something? When you're talking about drugs in America, knowing about the DEA and Scheduling is common knowledge. You apparently lack this common knowledge, and thus I argue that you are too uneducated on the topic of drug law to have a valid opinion on the matter.

That would have been one mistake plus correction. This was one mistake.

There was no mention of America, I assumed in general.

You may have a point about not knowing enough on drug law though.

The main drug that America was built upon was nicotine. Certainly not marijuana. While it was used, it was far from a vitally important component of our economy, and by the 60's and 70's, its use was almost purely recreational.

The only place where marijuana is really a major part of the economy are Marin, Mendecino, and Humboldt counties in California. Do keep in mind that for the most part in the 60's and 70's, people weren't hippies. The percentage of hippies compared to the bulk of the population was about comparable to the percentage of terrorists compared to the bulk of the population in the Middle East - very small but gets all the publicity.
