((Agreed))

Kazuki's smile twitched, ever so slightly, but that was all. Nothing else showed any sign of the impending darkness.

'This is why I'm here.' he thought,'This is why Summoners need gaurdians.'

Shaking it off like a pro, his true smile returned, and Kazuki leaned forward slightly, so he was right on Ayame's eye level. "What do you mean the end? This is just the beginning! You should know better than anyone! When we die we go to the Farplane! Where we can rest in a world without sadness! And eventually, everyone will come to join us!" Kazuki said somberly, eyes shining with hope.

Ayame gave Kazuki a sad smile. "True, but there are things that can never happen in the Farplane. You cannot experience the joy of growing old, you cannot watch children be born and grow up, and you can't experience all the wonder that life has to offer.

"But I chose this path, and I am happy with it. I do no want another family broken like mine was, and I want to give children the chance to live a happy life with their parents.

Thank you, though, for always looking on the brighter side. I believe that your optimism will be sorely needed in the future."

"Hn. That's why they keep me around. So, where to? You just point the way, and I'll get you there!" he said, spreading out a primitive map of Spira he'd saved from his Crusader days.

Ayame looked at the map and thought for a moment.

"Let's head to Besaid and get it out of the way. From there we can go to Luca and continue on from there."

"Yeah, if we skip that now then we'd have to do some major back-tracking later. Excellent plan, Oh Fearless Leader!" he said, saluting exaggeratively.

Ayame rolled her eyes and decided to continue the banter. "Of course it's an excellent plan, I came up with it."

Kazuki nodded in agreement. Inwardly, he sighed at the conversation. They were dragging this on, neither was sure if they were ready or not, and both were anxious about beginning the journey of the sacrificial lamb. Ayame was the lamb, and she was being strong. Kazuki couldn't help but feel that it was the least he could do to help her keep moving. He knew he would never be selfless enough be a summoner. In one swift motion, Kazuki shoved away his doubts. He was meant to carry Ayame's burdens, and he knew he wouldn't be able if he was distracted with his own selfish anxieties.

"Well then, let's go."

He picked up his leather pack containing his bare essentials, as well as a generous supply of restorative medicine. Once he was ready, he flicked his head towards the door, motioning Ayame to lead the way.

"After you, Princess."

Ayame sighed. Yes, it was time to go; time to face the path she chose. The journey would be long, but in some aspects, not long enough.

Picking up her bag, she took one last look around before she quickly turned to face the door. She pasted a smile on her face for everyone's sake.

"Why thank you, dear guardian." She said in a joking manner as she stepped out of her hut for the last time.

She made her way to the docks keeping her eyes forward the whole time. Looking back would make things harder.

Once they reached the docks, Kazuki stole the lead and began speaking good naturedly to the ticketer.

"Two tickets to Besaid, please. And make it extra nice looking! Spira's next big celebrity will be on board." He said, knowing she was listening in.

The Salesman laughed and agreed in a heavy Besaid accent. "Wha-t?! We don't have any bad lookin' ships, ya! And even if we did, it's only the best for a summoner!"

Kazuki had nothing to say to that, so he settled for a firm nod and smile. He took the tickets from the clerk's hand and spun around to talk to Ayame until the ship arrived.

"More of a hero rather then celebrity." Ayame said to Kazuki when he had finished speaking with the man about the tickets.

" Yeah, but hero sounds so melodramatic! Heroes know that their special and they get all complacent. But you're so humble, you'd never get wrapped up in publicity like heroes do. Crusaders are heroes, but summoners are the real deal."

((Logging out now))

Ayame gave Kazuki a genuine smile. "Thank you, for having faith in me and all summoners. And as for staying humble, that's what I have you for."

"Hn, enough touchy-feely crap. Want to get some food before we set off? It's almost noon and it'll be evening before we get to Besaid."

"That sounds good to me." Ayame said.

"Hmm...." Kazuki looked around the various booths spread about the port. Situated between the tropical regions of Besaid and Luca, Kilika made an ideal re-stock point for ships, and thus thrived on the money of tired, hungry travellers. It's port had accmidated every race and creed countless times, and had developed a diverse variety of foods. But they were in Kilika, so why not eat Kilikan food? It seemed like a logical choice to Kazuki. He headed toward the nearest vendor of said food.

"You know, I lived in Bevelle for a little while--just for a year or two when I was in my teens. And, it was the craziest thing, those people were completely bonkers for Kilikan food! They'd pay through the nose for the stuff! And you want know the really funny thing? It was terrible! Nothing like the real thing!"
