But Bumblebee was a VW beetle! Boo!!!!

You can blame VW on this one Floyd. For some reason this company doesn't want to associate any of their cars with war movies. Silly Germans and their fear of being called Nazis xd

OK, who is going to see the early showings of the movie starting Monday night?

Savanna and I plan to meet at one of the better theaters tonight. Not a great chick flick, but she loved the animated series as much as I do.

So,

How come no chatter about JJ Abrams' The Parasite Movie trailer that they showed at the premier?

So, that's what that trailer was about.

I recognized the Bad Robot logo and caught a glimpse of the name at the end of the trailer.

Should be an interesting project, no matter what happens. Let the rumor mongering begin!

I wondered what the hell that trailer was about!

Everyone thinks it's like eight billion things but what it really comes down to is exactly what the trailer showed:

It's a movie about a big ******** monster/thing attacking New York, told through the eyes of a group of people on the ground that film the events through a camcorder.

It's Blair Witch Project meets Godzilla.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 08, 2007 2:19 pm

I say that this Parasite movie will be the Godzilla equivalent of Lost, wherein 3 hours of movie go by with NOTHING happening and then the monster MIGHT appear for a second in the end.

Badum-tish!

So I saw Transformers. This is what I say:

RAAAAAAD

However (spoilers in whitetext!): the Autobots themselves did not get enough development, and too much of the movie focused on solving the Allspark story in that movie. Something like that should have been played up more in the second film. The first one should have dealt with the Autobot/Decepticon battles, with the Allspark spoken about but not revealed. Then the second movie could deal with the Allspark being found and Megatron being wasted. Then the THIRD movie could deal with Galvatron and UNICRON and it would be awesome. Instead they wibbled about too much with the Allspark, so that when Jazz died I didn't really care. Also, Starscream. They did almost NOTHING with him. Why?

All in all though, a good movie. I await Transformers The Second, and want to voice Grimlock so hard. ):

As for Parasite, I am patient but I am also not. I want to see this monster badly though.

I've watched it.

Frankly I found it pretty bad. It falls flat at the cringe inducing 'comedy', it fails at being The Iron Giant (mostly because Brad Bird is a master storyteller while Michael Bay is just a hack) and it even fails at the action. The camera neurotically twists and turns, no shot is longer than a couple of seconds, and there's no characters at all. Yes, an Autobot dies. NOONE gives a s**t. I don't even have an idea who it was, his death had all the gravitas of the death of a Star Trek Red Shirt ensign.

Hell it couldn't even concentrate for a few minutes on Optimus and Megatron's final battle.

I didn't care for the movie all that much either. Sure the Transformers got some recognition but where's the substance?

SPOILERS ABOUND!

This movie just kept doing things that annoyed me:

• Bumble Bee can't talk because his voice what'sit is damaged? Okay, so Bumble Bee has brain damage . . . but it's all good because he's equipped with an AM/FM radio. This is just dumb.

• Jazz is uh . . . I don't even know where to begin. To start with I wasn't expecting Scatman Crothers to rise from the grave and reprise his role (although if he were still around to do it he would've given this movie some mad cool points that were badly needed). On the other hand I wasn't expecting this kind of reworking of the character either. I physically whenced at the introduction of his character "Yo what up bitches!" Oh my, the screen writer is just so "cool" he's so "down with it." It's like they're beating you over the head with a sledge hammer, okay yeah, Jazz is the "black" Transformer I got it! Jesus Christ! Then he gets killed off. So where they trying to fulfill the movie cliché that the brother always gets killed? WTF? Man! Doubleyew Tee Eff!

• Ancient artifact as a plot device. The struggle for control over Cybertron and the search for more energy to power their war is apparently too complicated so we'll just pull out a tired old movie cliché: The ancient artifact of great power that spells certain doom if it falls into the wrong hands!

• The ancient artifact is hidden in the secret government lab under the Hoover Dam. What? Was the plot outline for this movie developed by a panel of twelve year olds?

• Humans have been reverse engineering the technology of Cybertron and that's were we gained the knowledge to build micro chips, cellphones, computers, etc . . . Oh please.

• When Megatron is finally freed from being encased in ice for eons he is plenty pissed but he still remembers to introduce himself properly before starting his rampage. "I AM MEGATRON!" Translation: we think the audience is too dumb to remember which robot is which so we'll have him say his own name to clear up any confusion.

• Wait a minute! The Autobots' and Decepticons' weakness is cold? We can freeze them? Somehow that makes them seem less imposing doesn't it?

• The interaction between Megatron and Starscream was notably lacking but then again not many of the robots had a whole lot of dialog or character. They all had personalities but not much substance.

• Optimus Prime says "My bad!" Wow, way to show us how hip are you guys are! Obviously the writers of this movie are still "cool", this line alone has informed me that "they're still down with it" and obviously "they can hang"! No they aren't pandering at all with this, no way!

• What does the Allspark do? It has magic powers that turn any machine into a transformer . . . an aggressive stark raving lunatic transformer.
*raises an eyebrow* Ooooookaaaaaay . . .

• Robot designs look so muddled and complicated that at times during the action sequences I had a hard time figuring out what I was seeing.

• There's a Decipticon called Devastator but he's a big tank instead of- *sigh* never mind, you get it.

• The Transformers mode of space travel is hazy at best. They arrive on earth encased in meteorites or some crap and fall to the ground as giant fireballs.

• A friend of mine was doling out a lot of praise for the movie's references to the old series such as the Camaro Bumble Bee being parked next to a VW Bug or the cheesy "more than meets the eye" line. Personally I thought these were kind of shallow at best and the rest of the movie had me wondering if the writers had ever even seen any Transformers cartoons.

• Human infantry on foot manage to hold off a hulking Decepticon. Okay so I'm kind of nitpicking on this one, but really, does anybody else feel that the Decepticons are heavily diminished as the antagonists when it turns out that the humans can just tweak a few things here and there and BLAMO! they can start blowing up the Decepticons on their very own? What do we even need the Autobots for?

• The fight between Megatron and Optimus Prime is settled by . . . . . . SAM WITWICKY?!!! OH COME ON! WTF?!

Its not Brain Damage, its having your vocal chords damaged. Two different areas, the problem with his case was it couldn't be healed by current Cybertronian health standards. Allspark helped though razz

Strideo

• Jazz is uh . . . I don't even know where to begin. To start with I wasn't expecting Scatman Crothers to rise from the grave and reprise his role (although if he were still around to do it he would've given this movie some mad cool points that were badly needed). So you're complaining he's TOO black now?

Strideo

• Ancient artifact as a plot device. The struggle for control over Cybertron and the search for more energy to power their war is apparently too complicated so we'll just pull out a tired old movie cliché: The ancient artifact of great power that spells certain doom if it falls into the wrong hands!

The Artifact effect's on Cybertron as it left caused for energy loss and some other problems as well. The Transformer's home world was dying because its main power source was gone.

Strideo

• The ancient artifact is hidden in the secret government lab under the Hoover Dam. What? Was the plot outline for this movie developed by a panel of twelve year olds?

It would be if AREA 51 was where the Allspark was contained. Under a dam makes a damn good hiding space if you think about it.

Strideo

• Humans have been reverse engineering the technology of Cybertron and that's were we gained the knowledge to build micro chips, cellphones, computers, etc . . . Oh please.

Strideo

• When Megatron is finally freed from being encased in ice for eons he is plenty pissed but he still remembers to introduce himself properly before starting his rampage. "I AM MEGATRON!" Translation: we think the audience is too dumb to remember which robot is which so we'll have him say his own name to clear up any confusion.

I could see this scene as missing some dialogues from the humans monitoring him saying NB-1 is reviving! NB-1 is reviving! But you know go ahead and complain.

Strideo

• Wait a minute! The Autobots' and Decepticons' weakness is cold? We can freeze them? Somehow that makes them seem less imposing doesn't it?

Extreme cold affects humans too, so its not like you can have a guy in normal winter gear saying ha ha to a Transformer. You also have to maintain that cold and provide enough to stop him before he comes after you and smashes you. If you are by your self, you can't use a Freezer to stop normal sized transformers at all.

Strideo

• The interaction between Megatron and Starscream was notably lacking but then again not many of the robots had a whole lot of dialog or character. They all had personalities but not much substance.

The sequel will highlight the transformers more. This is a story setting movie.

Strideo

• Optimus Prime says "My bad!" Wow, way to show us how hip are you guys are! Obviously the writers of this movie are still "cool", this line alone has informed me that "they're still down with it" and obviously "they can hang"! No they aren't pandering at all with this, no way!

Oh get over it already.

Strideo

• What does the Allspark do? It has magic powers that turn any machine into a transformer . . . an aggressive stark raving lunatic transformer.
*raises an eyebrow* Ooooookaaaaaay . . .

Well think of it this way. You just turn an unthinking machine into a thinking one, however most of its intelligence is primitive AND reactive to current situations. Samurai Phone was trapped in a box with things staring at it and a bigger machine pointed at it. DewCepticon, Xboxman and Face Hugger car were in the middle of a freaking battle. If you woke in a battle field with a gun and two sides you had no idea about wouldn't you be a little trigger happy to?

Strideo

• Robot designs look so muddled and complicated that at times during the action sequences I had a hard time figuring out what I was seeing.

Middling point I could make it out ok. Movie bears reseeing but then again most good movies do. YMMV

Strideo

• There's a Decipticon called Devastator but he's a big tank instead of- *sigh* never mind, you get it.

Its a goof on their part his name is actually Brawl, that one little thing slipped by them before the film went out oops. It'll be fixed for the DVD release.

Strideo

• The Transformers mode of space travel is hazy at best. They arrive on earth encased in meteorites or some crap and fall to the ground as giant fireballs.

Not encased in meteroites they enter the atmosphere in protoforms shaped like meteorites. And of course a meteorite is coming to look like a fireball coming from space and through ours or any habitable atmosphere.. Friction generates heat and heat produces fire when it comes in contact with enough fuel (I.E. particles and oxygen). This is basic science.

Strideo

• A friend of mine was doling out a lot of praise for the movie's references to the old series such as the Camaro Bumble Bee being parked next to a VW Bug or the cheesy "more than meets the eye" line. Personally I thought these were kind of shallow at best and the rest of the movie had me wondering if the writers had ever even seen any Transformers cartoons.

YMMV I enjoyed it.

What do we even need the Autobots for?

Nope, I'm actually glad Bay gave humans a chance with the revelations that sabot rounds could pentrate. At least there was no need to upload a virus to the mothership :p

Strideo

• The fight between Megatron and Optimus Prime is settled by . . . . . . SAM WITWICKY?!!! OH COME ON! WTF?!

Uhhh yeah that's sorta of the thing. I liked that Sam risked his life to save the world. You got alot of robot on robot action and this cements the whole Autobots and Humans buddy thing.

I say wait till the sequel comes you'll have more emphasis on the Transformers this time around. As for this movie, I knew from the start that this was setting up a new universe storyline and they couldn't get everything in. Not to mention how much complaining fans did before even seeing a single scene of the movie. I enjoyed as did others, enough to garner a sequel. Your mileage may very but let people enjoy a film razz

Not that he's TOO black. It's just that the movie feels like they're really trying TOO hard to illustrate his blackness. Besides, are you implying that Scatman Crothers isn't black enough?! xp

I sure hope they do. It'd be nice to see the transformers interact with each other more aside from fighting (although fighting is good too).

I get your point but I really didn't care for the whole Allspark plot line in this movie. I suppose it's merely a matter of personal taste.

I understand why a meteor looks like a fireball. It's just that . . . well, why can't they have a spaceship or something?

That would've made this movie a little bit TOO much like Independence Day! xd

But! But! Oh well! We KNOW that Megatron will be back so maybe they'll actually get to finish the big fight later. At least Sam didn't get in the way and manage to get Optimus killed! xp

Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to get anyone to dislike the movie if they're a fan. These were just some things that stuck in my mind and bugged me about it.
