I'm about as traditional as you can get. But I'm also very Irish, and that makes me very practical. ^_^ I've never -ever- met a Christian who was converted by words- especially not "YOU'RE GOING TO HELL, YOU SINNER!!! *shakeshakeshake*"
Sooo... My theory is that as long as you make up your own mind, then it's your decision to make. ^_^
We got to talking about it, the other day, and I came to a conclusion:
It doesn't matter what religion you are, who your gods are, or what you believe. If someone can shake your faith in your religion with words, then you never had any faith to begin with. *nods*

Neither did mine, but it was fun to see what I already knew confirmed by a fun quiz.
What is Unitarian Universalism anyway?

i couldn't tell you! not something i've ever heard of myself.
my results stem from being firmly agnostic, i was a little perturbed to get a high protestant result, until i read the attached link, then i saw that i said much the same as the other high scoring links, diverse beliefs..diverse beliefs...they seem to use that term to cover pretty much anything rolleyes
certainly interesting though.
what i find most revealing about quizzes such as these is not the high scoring results, but the low scores, they can reveal far more about you to yourself i believe 3nodding
so my very low results for Islam and Catholism says a lot more about what i think than my high scores in my opinion 3nodding

A pretty severe dislike for ritualism? XD I'm just guessing, of course, but both Catholics and Islam (muslims?) are both really big on following procedure and ritual.

i think it's more that i have issues with religions that force their rules onto people. no contraception, being gay is a SIN, that sort of thing. plus, i really disapprove of children having to be a certain religion because their parents are, and that certainly seems to be the way with Catholics, and with Islam, well, what can you say about that! Brain-washed from birth sweatdrop
i work with a Muslim, He's Kurdish, and i ask him about the things that he's 'not allowed' to do. Because let me tell you, a LOT of the Muslims immigrants in Britain throw their beliefs out of the window once they set foot on our soil! Smoking, drinking you name it, they can't get enough of it. Anyway i was asking Abbas about pork, see he's eaten pork since he's been in the UK and he likes it. So i asked him why he wasn't supposed to eat it. He told me it said so in the Koran, well i know that, but i wanted to know why. He couldn't tell me!i don't know, he says confused
in my honest opinion, religion causes the majority of the conflict on this planet, and most of it is totally pointless. people getting upset because someone has insulted THEIR god. the way i see it, if there is some divine entity there's only the one, and each religion has a different name for them. but all religious texts are woefully out of date now. everything else gets updated to make it work with modern life, i think the Bible is due for a re-write, that might sound trite. but it makes no sense to me for people to live their lives by a set of principles written over 2000 years ago neutral
i've always said, if i had to choose a religion i'd go for Paganism, worshipping the very ground that we walk on and all that springs forth from it seems far more sensible to me.
well there's part of my thoughts on religion rolleyes it's something that has never called me, but i'm always very interested in all the world's faiths, i love finding out about them 3nodding

Well said, jellysundae. I kinda like your philosophy. But then, I like almost everyone's philosophy as long as they're not zealots or indifferent. blaugh
As for the the Muslim's not being able to eat pork, it was written in the Koran the you're not supposed to eat any meat of any animal with cloven hooves (that is anything with a foot that looks like this (/) ) because they are unclean in the eyes of god. Wierd, huh? But I guess no more so than the Catholic idea that one can buy an indulgence for a deceased relative. Just in case they couldn't recieve the last rights or ask to be absolved of sin before they died, they can still get into heaven if you buy one. Doesn't make much sense to me. . . But I guess that if you believe it, it makese sense to you no matter how wierd it sounds.

Well, the bible said that too, but then later on it retracts it, saying that God sent ... paul? a message that all animals were now clean, because now what you eat or drink or wear can't make you unclean- that purity comes from -inside-. (Clarified later when Jesus yelled at the Pharasees about "washing the outside of the cup" while it was "still filthy inside" or something like that.
[rant]
I think that -religion- causes the trouble. Not faith. *nods* I just like to clarify that there's a difference. Dogma and rules and all that- it's what causes the trouble, because my rules are different from your rules, and if I say "I believe homosexuality is wrong", then you're going to believe that I'm wrong- which is really the same thing, you know? If believing something can be "wrong", then believing somethign else must be right- but who can say, with 100% certainty "I am right" in matters of faith? I can say "I believe this is right". "I believe that there is only one God." "I believe that abortion is wrong." "I believe premarital sex is wrong." But I can't just say "It is wrong." Because nobody really knows! Believe is the key word, you know? I can believe that its wrong to be gay, and you can believe that it's not wrong, and a gay person believes it's right to be gay, but in the end, it's all just opinion, right? If religions would stop presenting these things as Truth, then the fight would be over- but of course, we can't do that. It undermines everything religion is about. ^_^
I really do believe that there's only one God, and I believe in Jesus and the resurrection, and in all the Christian stuff. I really do. But... I'm not about to go and say "I am absolutely, 100% positively without fail totally right," not until the day God rolls back the heavens and there's no doubt. Because you know what? I might be wrong. ^^ That's what faith's all about, you know? You might be wrong, but you believe in it because... well, because you do.
In the end, it doesn't matter what you believe. Nobody in the world can prove that their religion is the right one- you can't prove that there's a muslim god, or a christian god, or a pagan one, or even that there isn't a god- so in the end, it's all just theology and politics, until you die- thats the only time you know for sure.
So the in-between time, the life time- I'll use it to make the best of this sad world, and I'll make friends like my friends here, and I'll grow my herbs and use what I believe to be God's bounty to help the people around me, and I'll be happy and I'll make friends regardless of anything as silly as dogma, skin color, or origin. ^_^

Kyoki, you're right. If we could stop passing off our own beliefs as fact then there would be a lot less problems between people. As my future mother-in-law said to me a few days ago: "If people could just respect eachother, not just tolerate eachother, and not try to agree 100% with everything they say or believe, I think there would be a lot less war and suffering in the world."

If it were purely women, though, we'd have had three weeks in Eden, and then God would be like "OMG what have I done! No, don't light the tree on fire! No! No, I am -not- saying you're irrational... no, no of cou-... no no, don't cry! Don't cry! Um. Um..... gonk !"

lol so right..
so we need to men around occasionally, to bring us chocolate and give us a target to throw things at ninja
the intended yin yang balance does work on a smaller scale though doesn't it, it's just on a global scale that it gets thown off, probably because there are too many men in powerful positions neutral

I can't say I agree to that. I think that it might be so out of balance because men and women are getting their roles mixed up. Now, I'm no "barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen" sort of girl, but I do believe that men should do some things and women others. Not because they -can't-... I mean, my mom can do anything my dad can do, you know? And my dad could do almost anything my mom can... but because... well... why should we? Just because I -can- open my own doors doesn't mean I should have to. ^_^ I think that men get so caught up in being "macho" or being "sensitive" (depending on the guy), and women get so caught up in being "independant" or whatnot, that we forget to be what we -are-: Feminine, beautiful women who can nurture and lead by example and guide our children or our families, and strong but gentle men who can protect and provide for our familes. Just because you're a man doesn't mean you -have- to be macho, mister "That's womens work", but it doesn't mean that you should be all feelings-touchy-feely. *shudder* I am so totally against PC. XD I swear. Ah-ha! I figured it out! It isn't because men are in power, it's because people are still thinking that gender makes a difference when it comes to quality of work! ^_^ It isn't that it is the male gender in a position of power. Its that the men that occupy that space don't have the quality of work neccessary! I mean, women in power wouldn't be any better, if they thought the same way or did the same things. *nods* (For the record, I firmly believe in a male president. Not because I think that a female one is "inferior" or can't do as good a job, but for the social reasons: The president must deal with other countries all the time, and in a -lot- of nations, women just aren't given the same weight. I mean, can you imagine a Middle Eastern military leader taking a woman seriously? *shakes her head* Even if he's just a figurehead, in order to deal with other nations who aren't as gender-equal as we are (We being... well, us who's nations are equalized. Um... Britian, america, canada, ect.) we need a man to make them go "Oh. It is a man who says this.")
