:: 10/19/06 :: ----------------------------- Participants: Sleinah, Shinobu, and Pala Lamps It had been three days since Sleinah last visited the shop in front of her, ElderSpark. She watched its simplistic exterior as she recalled her first visit there. She had won a lamp. A precious lamp, in fact. It did her well.
But somehow, something was telling her that the lamp wasn't just an ordinary lamp, and the jewel on it which she believed has a purpose that she wasn't sure of. Sometimes she would see it shake, if her eyes weren't fooling her. This lead to her curiosity.
Walking to the door, she turned its knob, gently pushed it open and stepped inside.Shinobu sat inside the shop of ElderSpark, taking in the smells of the incense which seemed to cover the shop in its sweet smell. Beside her sat a small lamp, gold in color with a large purple and blue jewel on the top of it. Besides for the occasional wiggle or puff of sweet-smelling smoke the lamp remanded motionless.
Shi knew that there was something special about this lamp. So entil she knew what was so special about it she kept it close to her, besides it seemed to like being kept out with her anyways. Picking it up again and giving it a tap of her finger it wiggled once more. Giggling from the lamps response, she poked it again only to look any from it from the sound of the shop door opening. Somehow, all kinds of smells produced by the incense found their way up her nostrils. This made Sleinah feel a bit dizzy. Her nose itching, she instinctively covered her mouth and sneezed her heart out. "Achoo!"
She rubbed her nose and exhaled, then looked around. She caught sight of her friend, Shinobu, giggling and poking with a lamp. She wondered what Shinobu was doing approaching the latter. "Hey, Shin! What are you doing with the lamp?"Shinobu perked up upon seeing her friend come in. "Hiyas Slei!" she said in a cheerful voice, "oh I just happened to win this lamp here and have been keeping and watchful eye on it ever since." "I'm not sure on what exactly it will do though" Shi said holding it up again and poking at it, causing it to wiggle again, "It sure likes to wiggle though." "It wiggles?" Sleinah blinked at Shinobu's response. She did see her friend's lamp shake. She remembered her own lamp did as well, but it was quick enough to still itself causing her speculations to fade gradually.
She pulled out her own lamp from her sling bag and held it with both hands in front of Shinobu. "I have mine too and I thought it was for bunring incense. It had a nice, soothing smell." She paused for a while then added, "It even stimulates my brain to come up with wild ideas and I can remember easily!""Oh maybe thats why mine has been puffing smoke, it wants incense!" Shinobu exclaimed, petting the lamps shiny purplish jewel, "I must be just hungry!" Shinobu grabbed some incense and set it next to her lamp.
"There now mine can eat!" she said smiling, not even thinking the lamp couldn't start burning the incense without her actually putting the incense in the lamp first. "Silly, Shinny~" Sleinah giggled when Shinobu just placed the incense beside the lamp. "You have to put incense in the lamp so it would burn." Without hesitation, she did the task for her friend and gave the lamp a light pat. "There."
Sleinah placed her lamp on the table where Shinobu's lamp sat. She added some of the incense she brought with her, which is exclusively for her lamp alone. "This is the incense I'm talking about. Take note of how it will take effect with you." A smile then crept up her face.Shinobu watched her friend fill her lamp with incense, taking note on what to do for next time. She smiled when she smelled the sweet scent begin to draft out of her lamp. She then turned to Sleinah a peaceful, sleepy look across her face. "Your lamps incense gives me such a nice, peaceful feeling" she said with a yawn. "Peaceful? It's not stimulating your brain to think? Or come up with ideas?" Sleinah couldn't believe her incense was having a different effect on Shinobu. "You must be kidding me!" She poked Shinobu's stomach.
"Ahh.. My incense~" Sleinah, after a while, finally relaxed her body replenished of energy. "This is the initial effect~" She told Shinobu.Shinobu thought for a second before answering. "No, its not helping me think any" she said, "but it is making me quiet clam and sleepy, maybe it effects different people in different ways?" Shinobu then poked at her orb again, causing it to puff out incense faster. "I wonder if these lamps are only for incense or something more then that." "Oh, I see. Well, I guess that's it..?" Sleinah shrugged and giggled.
"Are you sure? I guess that's kinda' why I'm here today." She looked around hoping to see one of the assistants who can at least answer a few of her questions.

:: 10/20 & 21/06 :: ----------------------------- Participants: Shinobu, Sleinah, Xennik, and Pala Lamps Shinobu sat outside the Elderspark shop under a rather large tree, taking in the nice cool weather. On her lap sat a small lamp, the same lamp see had gotten all those days before. She still had so many questions to ask about it. She looked down at its purplish shiny gem, she ran her finger across its shiny surface causing the lamp to wiggle. "You sure are wiggly, aren't you" she said with a smile at the lamp. The usually cheerful, charming Xennik was having an unusually frazzling day. He was late for work, for one thing. WAY late. An emergency had come up, followed quickly by a crisis, and in all the rush, he'd forgotten his own Pala lamp at home. Horrified with himself, he'd turned around and gone back to fetch it. Now it sat snuggly in the pouch on his hip, bringing his attention to it every time he took a step and it slapped lightly agianst his thigh.
Well, at least the whether was nice. Thank heaven the weather was cooling.
Approaching the shop (he'd parked several blocks away, afraid that his rather fancy car would take away from the overall affect of the shop), he noticed a young woman sitting under the Mana Tree, talking to a lamp that sat beside it. He recognized it immediately as being one of many lamps sold recently. She probably wanted questions answered.
So of course Imriel was nowhere to be seen, and you never really could count on Paper to be around, even when she was there. Feeling more annoyed about th esituation than he usually would, a surprisingly moody Xennik made his way to the tree.
"Hello." He said by way of greeting. His voice sounded strange to him without his usual chipper optimism.Once again, Sleinah decided to return to the Elderspark shop. A lot of strange things have happened to her recently. The lamp shaking and rattling as though it has life was enough to send her back to the shop.
As if in a hurry, she ran as fast as she could on the dusty path but immediately holted when she saw her friend sitting under the tree, lamp on her lap. "Hey Shin!" She approached Shinobu panting heavily from the all the running. "Why are you here? I mean, why didn't you go in the shop?"Shinobu turned when she heard her friend, Sleinah, coming towards her. "Hiyas Slei!" she said smiling, "oh I just decided to spend some time outside since the weather is beautiful today." Leaning against the tree Shinobu then piped up again "Oh and my lamp seems to like the incense i've been feeding it, its been putting out some nice smelling smoke for me today." She tapped it lately causing it to shake again. She giggled then looked behind Sleinah, it seemed there was a new person coming to visit Elderspark today. "Hello!" she happily said, waving. "Smiling?" Once again, Shinobu amazed her. "How come your pala reacts that way when mine doesn't? When I stroked its jewel, it didn't shake. But when I spoke something directed to it, it responded with a shake. A shake that annoyed me somehow." She sighed. If only her lamp could cooperate with her.
Seeing an unusual figure beside her, Sleinah greeted, "Oh hi! Oh wait.. I think I know who you are." She tried to recall her first visit in the shop but her mind seemed to blur the faces of the people who were in the shop.Despite his bad mood, Xennik was intrigued by their conversation. He couldn't help wondering in the back of his mind why his own lamp never reacted to him, but quickly ignored the thought.
"What kind of incense are you burning in your lamps?" These were the owners of the pala eggs that had been called "bof" eggs, they were unusual.
Then, remembering himself, he quickly added. "Oh, sorry, I was being rude. My name is Xennik Ahamni. I work here as a researcher. How do you do?" he nodded politely at both of the young women, trying to summon up his usual cheerfulness that made little conversations like these so easy."Oh! You said smelling." Sleinah smiled sheepishly. Her senses haven't been functioning properly lately. It may be due to the confusion her lamp was giving her.
"Well, it doesn't want to be cuddled. It.. it shook when I was reading. Somehow my senses told me that it wants to read too.." Her voice trailed as she observed her Pala. She then gave it to Shinobu for a look. "There. You might be able to do something. Stick them to each other..?"
She shifted her attention once more to the new person with them and listened to him.
"Oh! Xennik! It was you then. The one who hosted the event wherein I won my Pala." Sleinah smiled at him. She remembered his name now. So he is not just an assistant in the shop but a researcher! She nodded as the pieces in her mind slowly fitted in each other.
"Well, I don't really know what incense my lamp is burning, but I brought it with me. I'll just show it to you." She picked out the bag of incense she uses for her lamp. "Here." She then held it up just enough for Xennik to see."Ah...Aesidra and Umihini..." Xennik murmurred, more to himself than the two women. "Interesting choices." Xennik's mind wandered back to his own lamp. He hadn't even started burning incense in it, yet. He was at a loss. He knew so much about the Pala, the pros and cons of every type, that he couldn't decide which type of incense to use. He bit his lip, his hand straying to the pouch at his waist.Fortunately for Sleinah, she had keen ears. She heard Xennik murmur but she couldn't make out the words.
"What choices?" She asked, rather confused at what he had just said."Yeah, like put them next to each other and see what happens." Shinobu sat her lamp on the ground, hoping Sleinah would do the same. She then patted her lamp and turned back to Xennik and Sleinah. "Choices?" Xennik looked up at one of the two women almost guiltily, as though he had just mumbled a complaint and been caught. "Aesidra and Umihini," he stated clearly. "Those are the two kinds of incenses you're burning." He nodded at the girl who had asked the question. "That is Aesidra, and yours" this was directed at the opposite woman "is Umihini. Studies show that the kind of incense you burn in your lamp before the egg hatches will affect your Pala's personality and even intelligence in life.""Pala.. Hmm." Sleinah contemplated, completely forgetting to answer her friend. "So, that's why the lamp is shaking. I suppose the jewel here is the egg? And, Aesidra.. What personality will my la--I mean, Pala have?"
More and more facts intrigued Selinah. The more she knows, the more questions she comes up with. And, she never stops until she finds out just about everything a single fact has. She looked at Shinobu's lamp then asked once again, "And what about Umihini?""Umihini...?" Shinobu mumbled to herself, "Errr...wait you mean this lamp is gonna turn into an animal or something?!?" Shinobu hadn't expected this to be the reason the lamp shook, though she knew something had been different about the lamp.

:: 10/22/06 :: ----------------------------- Participants: Shinobu, Sleinah, Xennik, Angel, and Pala Lamps "Your lamps are actually the most active lamps I've ever seen. Perhaps it's because of their unique breed..." Xennik, once again, was more of talking to himself than to the two women, his head cocked thoughtfully, holding his chin in thought.
He blinked at the girl's question. "You mean...you weren't aware that these lamps hold eggs?" Not again! Good greif, didn't anyone explain what was going on to these people?! From the way they'd been acting, he'd assumed they already knew....
The large feather on Xennik's hat changed before their eyes to a murky gray of indecision."Ahh, I see. Well, I really thought the lamps were only for burning incenses. But I've been suspecting recently that the jewel is somewhat not just an ordinary one." Sleinah tried to explain to the man standing before them. She noticed the color change of the feather on his hat but she didn't exactly know why it did. Somehow, she just felt something was bothering him. She just kept it to herself.Shinobu glanced down at her lamp. "I knew it wasn't a normal lamp but, I didn't know an animal was living inside" she said. She poked at the jewel on her lamp, only to see it wiggle again and then stop moving once more. Turning back to Sleinah and Xennik, she wondered what could be on both of their minds since they both seemed to be thinking about something. Xennik nodded wordlessly, feeling like a fool. On better days, he was practically a pro at explaining these things. Why did everything have to go wrong on the same day? He opened the bag he'd been carrying and dug around inside it, finally pulling out a notebook. He'd prepared it for occasions like these.
"Those gem-like stones are indeed eggs. The are the first stage of life for a creature known as a Pala." He opened the notebook to two sketches on a single page, one of a child Pala, the other of an adult Pala. "These are Pala, young and adult. The smoke from the incense you burn in your lamps completes the fertilization of the egg on top. The type of incense you burn greatly affects your future Pala's personality. He flipped the page to another, more detailed sketch of Laa Kazu (Dadreeni were really easy to talk into posing for a sketch).Sleinah looked at Shinobu as Xennik picked out a notebook. She peered over once he opened the notebook. "Oh, how cute! So, this lamp will eventually turn into a child Pala?" She pointed to the sketch with the smaller strange creature.
"Oh, by the way, you can call me Slei if you want. Hehe." Sleinah scratched her head smiling sheepishly. She scolded herself for forgetting to do some introduction, at least informally.
"Wow! That's a very cute Pala! Who's that?" She now watched in awe the more detailed sketch of an adult Pala. It seemed to be posing in a sophisticated manner. It hadn't been often that Angél traveled from her home, but she had heard about a cute animal. She was curious so she went to check it out, low and behold, being how she was, she bought one and was actually on her way home, when she became lost. She unknowingly was walking by the shop of another peculiar creature when she heard a voice. She looked over and saw the people, and lamps.
Angél smiled and walked over, looking at the shop and the tree, she was actually rather curious. She held the cub she got lost over close to her, wrapping him tighter in his blanket.
"Hello" she said with a warm smile. Shinobu peered over Sleinah at the notebook Xennik was holding. "Oh, is that what my Pala will look like when it hatches and grows up, or will they all look different?" Shinobu then noticed a new person heading towards them. "Hello" she said cheerfully waving to them. Xennik nodded at the necomer, his mouth already busy explaining to them. "This is a Dadreeni Pala. They're infamous for their swollen egos. This one happens to be the Pala belonging to another shop-attendant and reseacher, Paper." He frowned thoughtfully. "Well, according to our research and instruments, your Pala are slightly...different. Obviously, we can't tell how, yet, as they're still unhatched. They'll likely have mutations. But don't worry! Many Pala are mutated naturally. It isn't harmful to them."Angél listened to the knowledge being spread ans smiled. She looked at the lamps and down to Toxick. She lifted her hand from around him and rubbed his head. Hearing an unfamiliar female voice, Sleinah looked up from the sketch she was watching. Immediately, she saw someone standing before them, holding a cub in her arms. "Hello there!"
She quickly returned her attention to Xennik hoping not to miss any information he was imparting them. "I see. That's another kind of Pala.. a Dad--Dadreeni. I bet they like to be praised all the time!" She half-joked, then giggled.
"There is another researcher? Paper, huh? And our Palas are going to have mutations. That's nice to know." She said, smiling. She was excited to see what her Pala will turn out to be. She hoped she could manage this one."So will my Pala look like that or will it look different" Shinobu wondered a loud. She looked down at her lamp again. "Do know the time they normally hatch, or is that still unknown?" Angél attempted to peer over and see the pictures, but wasn't close enough. She stepped forward some and looked around, looking at the lamps then back to the book.
"Mind if I ask what it is you are looking at?" she asked, her voice wasn't too loud, she wasn't even sure they would hear her. She pushed her galsses up because they were falling off her face, and looked back to the book, then to the three who were talking. "They all look different, like people," Xennik explained. Different hair-lengths, colors, eye colors, they're all unique in their own way. He flipped through a few pages. "This is a normal Pala." He turned the page back to Laa Kaza, "Laa Kaza here is mutated, see the unusual tail?" He flipped to another sketch -apparently he had sketched every single Pala he'd ever seen. "This one is also mutated. Mutations are fairly common, and impossible to guess at, but mutated tails are the most common mutations. As for when they'll hatch, that usually happens when you have burnt out the complete packet of incense.""Ahh! Now it's clear." Sleinah nodded.
"So, maybe that's why somebody said these Palas are BoF eggs. What are BoF eggs now?" She asked once again hoping to hear more from the researcher, who is now explaining the wonders of their lamps, or Palas."Okay, so my Pala will look completely different from Sleinah's Pala." Shinobu was starting to understand about the Pala but, was still in shock from finding out her lamp wasn't just a normal lamp. She looked over at her lamp once again, it seemed to be motionless right now, maybe it was sleeping? "That's awesome! Shinny, our Palas can be friends! If they will be in good terms with each other that is." Sleinah smiled at her friend. She checked her own lamp which she returned in her bag. She noticed it was shaking. Perhaps it wants to read the book beside her.Angél looked on curiously and stepped forward more, she was now close enough to see the images in the book. She looked on in awe. She smiled, watched and listened. She wanted to learn as much as she would about these 'Pala' She smile and rubbed Toxicks head again, a small sound came from under the blanket, it soundt like a coo, but much deeper. Xennik adjusted the way he stood so the newcomer, a fairly attractive woman, could see the sketches in his book. He felt a bit like he was showing off, but didn't quite know how to make it seem to himslef that he wasn't. They were just sketches after all. Very accurate, yes, but still...
He had only just noticed the creature in the woman's arms, and the biologist within seemed to come to life. "And what is this?" He asked with interest, brushing his hair out of his eyes as the wind picked up, still holding the book open in his other palm.Angél looked up from the book and smiled.
"Well I...Actually I am not entirely sure yet. I know where he is from, but not much of the history, I didnt get a chance to figure that out yet. He is bear like, and eh..." she slowly shyed away from her words, she was nervous, she didn't know these people and somehow she butted her way into thier discussion.
"Sorry. My name is Angél, I didn't mean to just butt in like that... I just don't get out much."
She pulled her hair from her face, long ebony treeces flew in her eyes from the wind.. "Hello, Angel!" Sleinah smiled and waved a hand at the newcomer. "You can call me Slei if you want." She introduced herself then went on looking at the amazing pictures of the Palas.
"I wanna see a real one! What about you, Shin? Angel?" She exlaimed excitedly."Hihi Angel!" Shinobu gave a soft smile and a wave of her hand at Angel. "You can call me Shi or Shinny as Slei likes to call me" she giggled upon hearing herself say "Shinny". "Oh i'd love to see a real Pala!" Shinobu exclaimed, "so far i've only seen lamps." Angél nodded.
"Pa...la...thats what they are called right, Pala? They look so interesting.....And to think they come from those lamps? Wow."
She paused and looked at the book again and smiled. She looked back to Sleinah and Shinobu.
"It is nice to meet you both." Xennik smiled kindly at the new-comer, though he was a little disappointed that she didn't know what the creature was. Aw, well. "I...These lamps are unusual, though it hasn't been explained to me why. The other researchers named them." He shrugged, smiling sheepsihly. "I apologize, but I can't help you with that one." He looked thoughtful. "You want to see a real one?" His hand wandered back to the pouch on his belt. "My own Pala is still unhatched," he admitted by way of explanation, "but there are usually a few Pala wandering around here somewhere.""Ahh, I see." Sleinah followed Xennik's hands reaching in his bag. She was amazed to see another lamp, but it only has one color. Blue. Her Pala, as well as Shinobu's, is really an unusual one and she ought to take care of it no matter what.
"That's a really lovely lamp, Xennik. I hope to see mine grow soon!" She spoke excitedly once more. Actually, she was hoping to see her Pala have at least pigtails for the hair. Fluffy ones, maybe. Long or short she didn't mind. But as long as it would look cute on her Pala, she would be happy with it.
She turned and smiled one more at the newcrom. "Nice to meet you too, Angel." Before she looked back to the sketches, she checked her watch.
"Oh my! Look at the time! I have to go now. I still have to do something at home. And it's a long way to go from here." She hugged Shinobu then waved at Xennik and Angel.
"See you guys, tomorrow! I hope I'll catch you here." With that, she dashed off running once more on the path she took a while ago.
