~Rescue Gone Bad~ Merged Prompt and Response Alaina had volunteered to accompany Naeva on an excursion into the Wilderness beyond the Wards to search for wild unis in need of help. There was a herd which Naeva has been in contact with that has remained stubborn concerning coming to safety, and Naeva had not heard from them in a long time. This was the group Alaina and the other nine on her team were to find. Naeva herself was with a second group combing a different area of the herd's territory. Alaina was beginning to think this was a terrible plan. The early afternoon was plagued by biting insects, and with the fall of darkness came a pouring rain, which showed no signs of stopping. It was now too dark for Alaina to see clearly, and the rain-slicked rocks kept making her footing tremendously difficult. She could hear her teammates stumbling through the brush to her left and right, their efforts at silence foiled by the dreadful footing. She could tell that the search line was wavering, but not too badly. Eventually, she made her way to a clearing. She could tell because the echoing of the rain on the leaves subsided with distance, and she could no longer find tree trunks to help her balance. There was an odd smell in the air, coppery, like... blood? As she was contemplating the odor, she tripped over a yielding obstacle, landing facedown in the mud. The odor became stronger closer to the ground, clearly identifiable. Her guess was right on. Naeva had warned Alaina not to turn on her flashlight unless she had to, because light attracted the vile creatures, but it might be necessary now. Her teammates were still moving, oblivious to her distress. She pushed herself to her knees, and flicked on the flashlight, revealing the scene. She quickly stood up and hurried to an empty corner of the clearing to loudly empty her stomach of its suddenly sour meal. The light had revealed a dead water uni, torn to pieces by the vile creatures Naeva had warned her about. She had tripped over a leg. She was suddenly both glad and terrified that she had insisted that Evane stay within the Wards. Evane would be safe, but she couldn't help Alaina out now. She swallowed against more bile, and darted the beam of light around the clearing. The beam illuminated the rain, giving the clearing a feeling of sorrow and depression. The clearing was filled with dead unis. Blood mixed with the water, trailing down the unis and over the ground. No wonder Naeva hadn't heard from the herd in a while. They were all dead. Alaina's heart leapt as a sob cut through the wet air, and the beam jumped to reveal a young green uni, who had blended in perfectly with the surrounding greenery until now. Aliana instantly turned off the flashlight, hoping she didn't just cut short the uni's lifespan by revealing it. She carefully walked over to the quivering uni, and knelt down when she thought she was close enough. She blindly reached out through the rain to calm the young uni, and was surprised to feel a head come under and up to her hand. Apparently, the uni was a child of the water uni, and was there when the battle took place. This made more sense to Alaina. She hadn't been able to figure out why an entire uni herd would stand and fight rather than fleeing. This foal was why. She felt an urgent need to leave, and this need was confirmed when a teammate came up to her and said they had to leave. The creatures were coming, and they had found no living unis. The entire herd was here. Alaina turned green, yet still managed to gently tug on the foal's mane. The uni didn't resist and instead came up farther under her hand, having stood up. Alaina quickly took the child away from the clearing while her teammate gathered the others up and told them they should head home. Quickly. The green uni started quivering again as it scented the vile creatures that killed its herd coming closer. Alaina threw caution to the wind, picked up the uni, and hauled them both towards the safety of the Wards. She saw the rest of the team up ahead, closing in on the Wards. Alaina leapt over the engraved stones just as a pair of jaws came out of the darkness to snap at her. They hit the air about the Wards instead, and the teeth stopped all forward motion instantly. Alaina shuddered at the near miss, and turned to carry the uni farther away from both Wards and teeth. She finally reached the medical area, and set the uni down to be checked. She stayed nearby to ask its name. The uni looked up at her, tears in its eyes. I am Tolan... Tolan! Mama! Dada! Where are they? Alaina looked down, unable to look into those eyes any longer. "They're... they're gone, Tolan. They're not coming back. The monsters got them." NO! Can't be! Can't! They CAN'T be! He broke off, and started crying. "I'm afraid they are, Tolan..." Tolan just broke down then, sobbing. I have no one then... "..." You have us... a soft voice countered. Evane came up to the pair, her eyes filled with sorrow. She continued, You have us... we can adopt you... you can be part of my herd... Tolan looked up at the air uni, Your herd? Evane solemnly nodded her head, Yes, my herd. Alaina here and I.. and you, if decide to join us...

~It's the Thought That Counts~ Evanescence raised her head and glanced at Alaina as the guardian sighed once more. "What is it?" Evane asked yet again from her prone position while Tolan slept on. The sun was so nice, and the three of them were drowsing in it... She was so use to asking that question without getting a response, that she jerked a little when Alaina responded, "Oh, I was thinking about the other unis in your old herd." Evane did the uni version of raising an eyebrow. Alaina continued, "There was this one other uni I also really liked at the sale. I was having a hard time deciding actually, since I couldn't get both of you." She made a face, her cheeks tinged with red. Evane looked askance at her guardian, and finally replied, "So how did you choose?" Would she have had a different guardian if things went differently? Alaina's face became even redder as she responded, "The water was taken by another, leaving you." Evane barely had any time to respond before Alaina quickly added, "Not that you weren't good, in fact you were. I got you right after, before anyone else could get you." Evane twitched with some hidden emotion at that, her eyes shining. She finally asked, "Do you know the name of the other uni, and perhaps their guardian?" Alaina thought about it, then thought about answering, before responding, "The water's name is Nenya, her guardian is St.Claire." Evane went silent, keeping her thoughts to herself before she finally stood up with a "I'll be back. Stay put," and walked off, leaving Alaina alone with Tolan for several hours. The mare eventually came back with a foal beside her, prompting Alaina to ask, "Who's this?" Evane rolled her eyes, then answered, "His name is Roshaun." Alaina blinked, prompting Evane to add, "He's my offspring... mine... and Nenya's." Alaina's jaw dropped as Evane continued. "I figured you may not be able to have both me and Nenya, but perhaps you could get a part of Nenya by getting her offspring." She nudged the icy foal closer, and he took wobbly steps forward before collapsing into Alaina's lap. Alaina petted Roshaun for a moment before looking at Evane and softly saying, "Thank you, Evanescence."

~Getting To Know You... Better~ Roshaun peered over at Tolan, studying him for a moment before piping up, "Hey Tolan?" Tolan did a small jump before swiveling his neck around to look at Roshaun. "Yes?" Roshaun blinked as he formed his question in his head before asking, "How'd I get here?" Tolan blushed a bright red (going nicely with his dark green hide) before stuttering, "S-Shouldn't y-you ask y-your m-m-mother that?" His eyes were wide. He had never thought about it before. He knew how, of course, but had never done it. It was Roshaun's turn to blush and duck his head before muttering, "She stared at me and told me to have you show me 'the alter' whatever-that-is..." He raised his head to look at Tolan. "What's she mean by that?" Tolan raised an eyebrow. So that's how Evane did it. He unfolded his legs and rose to his feet, causing Roshaun to do the same out of shock. "Come." Was Tolan's only responce as he walked off towards the forest. Roshaun meekly followed. It wasn't long before Roshaun broke through the underbrush into a clearing where Tolan was already waiting. In the center of the clearing was a long flat rock, embedded with glittering gems. "Quartz." Tolan clarified, seeing where Roshaun's gaze was. He walked over to one side of the rock and stood there for a still moment, watching Roshaun patiently. Roshaun finally got the hint and stepped up to the other side, wondering just how this worked. "Explaining isn't anywhere close to actually seeing it, so..." Tolan sighed, then closed his eyes as he bowed his head slightly. "Just say your element, summon some of it above the alter, then repeat after me..." Roshaun's eyes went wide as Tolan called out, "Plant!" and a small matter of greenish light appeared on Tolan's side of the alter. "Ice!" The sound seemed to force it's way past Roshaun's throat and with a moment's concentration, a pale blue ball of light appeared above the alter on his side, radiating cold... "Roshaun? Roshaun!" Tolan's voice broke through the darkness surrounding Roshaun's mind. Roshaun blinked hazily up at Tolan, who seemed quite worried. Behind him was the alter, and on top of the alter... Roshaun blinked, then shifted to look at it better. Tolan stepped aside to allow Roshaun a better look. "Is... that..." Roshaun stared at the ingot-shaped object on top of the alter. It shimmered with Tolan's green glow and his pale blue glow, with swirls of brown separating the two as the whole thing radiated with a cool pulse. It was only after a moment that his attention was caught by the fact that Tolan was talking. "... think you should keep hold of it." Roshaun blinked once more and turned to look at Tolan. "Say again?" Tolan sighed before he repeated what he had said, "I said, I think you should keep hold of it. It might do better with you, since it seems to deal with the cold and you..." He trailed off. Roshaun blinked yet again before he turned back towards the ingot and uttered, "Oh..." He shakily got to his feet before he stepped over to the ingot and gently picked it up in his mouth. He turned towards Tolan, who led the way out of there... Roshaun groaned as Yepa about froze Jamuna yet again. "Yepa..." He said warningly, causing her to only toss her head back, sniff, and trot off, as if it had never happened. Roshaun groaned and sank to the ground, turning to give the shivering Jamuna an apologetic look. "I know, I know..." she said quietly, "She can't help it..."

~Stopping Bridgette~ Lookout! A small herd of wild unis has just burst out of the woods! It seems they were being chased by some Darklings that were stopped by the Wards. But they don't seem to realize they're safe! Best stop them before they gallop right out the other side of the Wards and back into danger! Trusting the others at the agency to stop the other four, Evane, Kachina, Damara, and Tolan all leapt towards one of the dark figures. "Hey! Stop! You're safe!" Tolan cried out. Evane ran up beside the form and effortless slid into the same rhythm as the form. "Hey! At least stop for a moment! We can help!" Kachina made a daring move and leapt in front of the shape to try and slow it. Damara grabbed a trailing mouthful to help slow it down so it wouldn't crash. "It's ok. You're safe here," Evane repeated to the form, hoping it would stop and listen. ~ Page 1310--- ((RP)) ~Aatmik's Riddle~ Give me food and I will live; give me water and I will die. What am I?Answer: Fire.--- ((RP)) gonk I've got to rp these out at some point!
