Gotta love Devin!
Can't really say much about him except that he's my musical hero! His solo-stuff as well as SYL are a positive exception in a whole world of dull and self-repeating music. whee
In fact, he is almost TOO good and as a musician/drummer/vocalist I find it very annoying that there are people like him who make us normal people look inferior. sweatdrop

Got Synchestra today before school, listened to it all day.
I must say, its a pretty good album.
You guys seem to worship Devin, which I suppose each to their own, but I wouldn't say hes that freaking good.
Thats not to say that he isn't good, or that I'm not going to buy all the rest of his work, but yeah...

Thats not to say that he isn't good, or that I'm not going to buy all the rest of his work, but yeah... Hah! True, true. For me his stuff is just quite different from anything else there is. The whole concept of music is somehow different. And since I prefer bands that don't follow basic routines (and actually sounding good at it), Devin's stuff is rather natural for me. whee

The same day I got Synchestra I got Therion's "Gothic Kabbalah" in the mail, and so that took precedence since Therion is my favorite band and that new album is amazing.
But when I finally got off my Therion-high I listened to Synchestra again, and I must say "Wow!" I knew it was good before, but through multiple listenings you pick up on more recurring things and little tidbits in the music that makes it so unique and so cool. I especially love how, although the songs are somewhat varied and distinct in their own ways, they all flow very well and most share some recurring musical themes, even if just slightly.
I've got to track down some more of his stuff 3nodding

what i think is pretty cool is that the metal people,the prog rock,and the elitest music people all say the same thing. devin townsend is a genius.
i've only really been able to listen to his work with s.y.l. . i mean this man throws s much talent into his music the mans work has made me cry.[this happened during two weeks and thalimus]the amount of pure crushing beauty was just too overwhelming and this is just from his metal band i want to find every piece of work he has done.

I HATE when that happens.. I just ruins everything! The album is violated and buying it just doesn't feel the same.. it takes the fun out of it.. crying Anyhoo, the cover of the album is exactly something I would've wanted to do!! Well, Devin got there first. rolleyes

Well the album isn't finished yet i think.
the last songs miss some instruments (like many drum parts)
first 5 songs is almost all about drums and you don't hear them much on the rest of the album.
