Mjollner Necrohazard milk actually hurts your performance a bit when it comes to screaming ive found because you hahve that extra mucus there and youre not strengthening your throat to withstand the normal wear and tear of screaming... ive always found lemon is good but only after it starts to hurt... i tore away at my throat when i first started doing hardcore/ metal vocals which i then supplemented by smoking more... and eating raw lemons.... then i quit smoking and i had the sound of the scream but not smoking let me build my lung capacity to hold it out longer... i am not condoning smoking*cough* cigarettes*cough*im just saying thats what did it for me p.s. if you have a car... scream along to just about anything whenever you can.. its private and you can scream as loud as you want.... p.p.s try not to crash blaugh yea, when i was still in practice, my car is where i practiced the most at, cause i actually lived in it for a while. anyway, lemons eh? never heard that one. would you be able to explain that? just makes no sense to me o.O . the milk i can understand... Raw acid like that will mess up the lining in your throat temporarily. I thought most screamers were big hot tea and honey drinkers, so they didn't mess up their throats. *shrug*

i'm not positive but i think it has to do with making yor throat create its own protective layer that isnt just an excess of phlegm... but i had heard it from another band member.. and it helped in the short term... after its all over and done with though i moved to the hot drinks and such and definitely stayed away from any sugars but honey because they always made me phlegm up after all of that... cough drops too... i definitely really do not recommend the smoking though because there was one point where i was smoking so heavilly and i strained myself so much at a practice that when i coughed i tasted blood...(we were recording and i couldnt hear myself so i forced it) and i wouldnt want that to happen to anyone else...

when i first realised how to REALLY growl it hurt like a ******** every single time i did it and it made me burst into fits of coughing.. but the more i did it and the harder i pushed my throat the better it started to sound... and im at the point where i need to build myself back up.. but if you just push your voice and actually have the drive to keep going through the discomfort then you will usually get alot better... and as far as being too scared to perform in front of people... its always nerve-racking getting up in front of people for anything... but once you can feel the crowd or however many people are listening getting into the music it just become so elevated and electric that you can't feel any kind of fear anymore... provided you don't suck a** of course xp ... anyway thats just how i see it... feel free to put down your opinions or disagree or whatever

I agree with what necro was saying about getting up infront of people and performing. I just went to this exhibit on fear at this one museum and a few things it said to calm yourself down is to take a few deep breaths, think of a relaxing place (like the beach or your bedroom), exercise (so maybe you should go for a walk or go jogging or something before you perform). It said some other stuff but i forget what it was. I hope it helps.

exercising(in a sense) is definitely effective. Thats what getting"pumped up" for something is.. you just jump up and down a little.. do some pushups or something.. just get the blood flowing .. and you'll feel a lot more confident and just ready to tear s**t up

So yesterday i was practicing some vocals, since i've been practicing that more than guitar lately, and had the same problem necro talked about with hacking blood, so i completely understand now bro... lame indeed. rinsed out with mouthwash afterwards hoping it would help in some way and it was indeed blood dude... red tint in green mouthwash =/ .
im a VERY heavy smoker, so idk how much that had to do with it over the strain and length of the screaming/growling though.... pisses me off that after bleeding over it, still pretty much fail at vocals t>< . and here we dub necro an a*****e, for being better >.> .
