Ra sat on the bed next to her and looked at the painting on the wall. It was one of the generic ones, a vase of flowers painted in bright colours.
"Maybe you should call them today?" He said looking from Obie to the phone. "It can't hurt, and maybe they will want to see you tomorrow, rather than putting it off."

Sighing softly, she sat up and wrapped her arms around him for a moment. She really appreciated him being here with her. She definitely would not have even left Japan if it hadn't been for his prompting. Pulling way, she pulled the piece of paper out with their phone number and picked up the phone. Taking a deep breath, she let it out slowly as she began to dial. Reaching for his hand, she closed her eyes as the phone began to ring on the other end.
"Hello?" a young girl's voice asked.
Obie opened her eyes and glanced to Ra in a bit of surprise.
"Um... hello. I-Is Mr. or Mrs. Dobre home?" she asked.
"Sure. One sec," came the cheerful reply and she could hear the girl shout for her mother after setting the phone down.

Madison had been sitting watching her favourite drama when Sadie called her name. Getting up she smiled at her daughter and started out towards the hall.
"Who is it?" She asked as she picked up the phone.
Sadie shrugged and smiled.
"Don't know." She said flopping back down onto the sofa and stretching her legs out.
Madison smirked and picked up the phone.
"Hello." She said absently reading the calender on the cork board in front of her.

Obie took another deep breath and laced her fingers through Ra's at the sound of the older woman's voice.
"Um, hello Mrs. Dobre. I'm sorry for calling so late, but our plane just landed and..." Obie paused when she realized she was babbling and stalling in saying the inevitable. "Sorry... My name is Obsidian Williams and I was born at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. I was adopted as an infant there and I was given this number by the agency."

It took a moment or two for the words to sink in. She stared at the calender, not reading it any more. Just staring. After another moment she began to cry. Her hand over her mouth. She had often wondered if this day would come. Every birthday she wondered about the bay she had given up. What would she be doing, whether she wondered about her lost family.
"Hello," She croaked, not really sure of what to say. What could you say to a child you have disguarded, given away. "How are you?"

Obie glanced to Ra with worry as there was a long pause. It had been a mistake. A huge mistake. They wouldn't want her imposing on their lives. But then she realized that she was crying. Blinking in complete surprise she almost missed her hoarse question.
"I... I'm alright," she replied. "Um... I've flown in... from Japan and I'm here in San Antonio. I'll only be here a couple of days. If... If you'd rather not see me, I would understand," she stammered uncharacteristically.

"Japan?" Madison asked astonished by how far her daughter seemed to have travelled. "No, no ... I ... I'd like to see you." She said, wiping her eyes and smiling a little. Wasn't this what she had always wanted. To make amends for her mistake.
"Can you come tomorrow morning? Do you have my address?" She asked, playing with the necklace she wore as she spoke.

"Tomorrow?" Obie repeated. "Um, sure. I could come tomorrow morning, but I don't have your address. The agency would only give me your phone number," she replied, then glanced at Ra again. "Is... Is it alright if I bring my boyfriend with me?"

Madison listened to her and stared at the wall again. She was all grown up, a boyfriend and a life in a country Madison knew little about.
"Yes, yes. I'd like to meet you both." She said before reeling her address off. She would have to make sure her husband would be home also.

Obie quickly tucked the phone between her shoulder and ear and jotted down the address on the hotel stationary. She smiled when she said she could bring Ra and nodded a little to herself as she set the pen down. So maybe this wouldn't be so horrible after all, she thought to herself.
"Okay, well... I uh... we'll probably be there around nine or so depending on how lost I get," she smirked a little. "I'll uh... see you tomorrow," she said softly.

"Yes, see you tomorrow." Madison repeated before placing the phone back on the hook. Like a robot she walked back into the living room and sat in her chair, merely staring forwards at the TV, though not really watching it.

Ra smiled broadly at Obie and squeezed her hand.
"Wow, we're really going to meet them." He said with a smile. "What did she sound like?"

Obie hung up the phone and turned to face Ra, the conversation she had just had slowly sinking in.
"Sound like? She sounded.... nice. She sounded... I don't know," she said, running a hand through her hair. "She sounded surprised to hear from me. But that's normal, right? You would think that's normal?" she asked him, looking up into his deep grey eyes.

"Of course it is normal." He said resting his hand on her knee. "I'm sure your call was the last thing she was expecting.
He smiled and stood from the bed.
"We should get some sleep if we are going to be presentable tomorrow." He said stepping forwards and running a hand over her hair. "It has been a long day."

Obie smiled as he reassured her and rose to her feet to slip her arms around his neck.
"Thank you Ne-chan," she smiled and hopped up on her tip toes to place a soft kiss on his lips. When she pulled away, she smiled up at him then made her way over to her bag to grab her pajamas.

Ra woke early the next morning, his arms still wrapped around Obie in the way they had been when he fell asleep. Rolling onto his back he left the arm she was lying on where it was and ran his fingers through his hair. He was nervous again. What if this family saw him the same way the last one did. He could only take so many insults.
