Hetzon walks into the empty Council Chamber. It is always peaceful here...the center of power of the Temple is in this room, and the Force seems centered here. Even before the Temple had been built, this area of the planet had felt such. It was one of the reasons Dackktan had been chosen as the place for the new Temple rather than some of the more populous or advanced planets.

Hetzon takes his seat at the center of the chairs where the assembled Masters would sit and sets about emptying his mind. It would take as much of his objectiveness to get this job done today as he could muster, and he needed time to make himself ready.

~Xanta~

Blessed of the Light, Conqueror of the Inferno, High Council, Jedi Master Xanta Shozar sweeps grandiosely into the Council Chamber. He notices that he is alone with the Jedi Master Hetzon and grimaces inwardly. It is said that that one detects the slightest darkness - indeed, Xanta's own room had been inconspicuously guarded these past few weeks. It had taken him some time to figure out that the steady if slow stream of Knights and Masters passing his door at all times was checking for any signs of incongruous behavior from him. Well, he had it all well hidden behind a mask of cool logic now.

Blessed of the Light, indeed - for years, Xanta Shozar had been consumed by the desire for power, more and more power. Within the Inner Planets, it had hardly been worth the risk to openly fall to the darkness, but here, where the Force works differently...that is a different story entirely. For more than a decade, Xanta's soul, his very heart of hearts has been consumed by blackness, a darkness no Light can penetrate. Long ago, it seems, when the dream of becoming a Jedi took second place to his duty to become High Counsel to the King of his own home planet, Xanta's heart had been pure. He had in fact conquered the inferno and been blessed in the Light, but...the taste of true power he had when he had ruled his planet in the absence of a true ruler had been all it had taken. At that time, he had already spent considerable time in the Jedi Temple and had attained the rank of Jedi Knight.

Xanta fingers the three knots of rank on his rank cord denoting him as a Member of the Dackktan Council. So Hetzon trusts him not, does he? He will see the fury of the Dark Side unleashed again...the time of the return approaches.

The remaining members of the Council trickle in as the hours wear on, approaching two past Noon Bells. Miaka arrives shortly after the call is sent out, looking resplendent in her usual choice of violet robes. Her 3 knots of golden rank stand about against the field of off-purple as though glowing, and she herself radiates a beauty rare matched amongst the Jedi. Master Hetzon smiles warmly at her as she assumes her seat beside him.

The rest of the seats fill up gradually, with Cheskin being the last in at 10 minutes before he was appointed to arrive. Master Hetzon stands and surveys the assembled before nodding to the Knight guarding the door.

Bring them in, my son.

Hetzon surveys the incoming applicants. Prospective certainly - he can sense the Force in each, but to what end will they ultimately serve. That even his far seeing eye is blind to.

((I just had my wisdom teeth removed. Sorry that I haven't been around.))

Dackktan Council Room

After receiving directions from a passing Knight, I made my way to the council on time. I had to wait outside momentarily, but soon we were ushered in by another Knight.

Here's the thing: my people may be great diplomats, and perform well in front of bodies of people, much like Bothans, but being a hunter of my tribe, I have never really cared too much about the social aspects of my people. In fact, some would say that I am very socially introverted. Factor in my anxioty ((I blame my poor spelling on Vicodan)) when indoors, and the end result was my absolute silence and apprehensiveness when I walked into that imposing room.

((Sorry about your wisdom teeth, dude. Have fun with the hydrocodone (Vicodin), though. Of the narcs I've been on, it's one of the more fun ones. Anything with a Schedule II in front of the word narcotic is always a ride to take. Even if the major part of the euphoric effect is eaten up with killing the pain, there is still that "don't give a flying ******** about a damn thing; everything's gonna be alright" feeling to taking them.

It's anxiety, by the way. And Vicodin. Nice post, too, for being doped.))

Dackktan Council Room

Scorp arrived trying to project and air of grace all he did was eemed rushed. After waiting a few minutes he noticed a grand total of two other people going with him. Getting ursured inside he stood straight and tall and waited.

As the padawans are shown in, Hetzon again surveys the group assembled in the Chamber. It is disgruntling to know that amongst them there are some who are corrupt and actually follow the dark side. Certainly he is unable to convincingly accuse any of them, for they are Jedi Masters and all of them have earned every knot of rank they have with their own blood, but Xanta...he rubs Hetzon the wrong way, every time they have an encounter.

SHaking his head slightly, he clears those thoughts, dropping easily into the Void from the years of practice he has had with the technique. He stands as the last applicant is shown in and gestures widely with his arms.

Gentlemen, welcome to Dackktan. In this Temple, we purport the study of the Light of the Force, and we strive to achieve harmony and balance amongst the stars with our own successes in mastering the shadow of the Dark Side.

Gentlemen, each of you is here for a reason. None are led to the path of the Jedi without cause, and of the three of you, two of you sought us out and one was found in a search. Idle wandering is no part of your journey. One by one, I wish for you to tell the Council what has made you believe you are worthy to be called padawan.

Hetzon sits back down and folds his hands inside his cloak. He looks at Miaka, who smiles slightly at him. She had had more than a few secret words for him about his temper after the last flare up, and he had been justifiably embarassed.

Disturbingly, Xanta had grunted...sardonically?...as Hetzon had mentioned defeating the Dark Side within. Perhaps some harsh words were in order for him, too...

((Sorry. My computer caught the bug called "Windows sucks." You can generally expect me to reply to posts during the same day anless I say otherwise.))

Council Chambers

I stood there for a while, doing nothing, in hopes that one of the others would step forward. Unfortunately, it didn't look like that was going to happen anytime soon. Suddenly I realized that if I truly wanted the mantle of the Force, public speaking was the least of my concers. With that soothing thought in mind, I stepped forwards, and cleared my throat. I looked around the room, part making sure that it was alright for me to speak, part stalling, and begun.

"I'm not quite sure how to address you, so I hope that 'Masters' works. On my world we don't hear the grand and lofty tales of the Jedi. To us, they are just known as an abstract idea. To be truthful, titles mean very little to us. I don't want any grand tales or adventures. I never do well in the spotlight. I'm sure that my name will be forgotten soon after I pass." I had to stop for a moment and collect my thoughts. "I'm sorry. I'm no good at conveying my thoughts. I was always told that my thought process was a bit off. It may seem to be a bunch of jumbled nonsense, but it makes a world of sense to me. I don't see the force as 'light' and 'dark.' Many of the universe's most benevolent people would have been had they not experienced the 'dark.' I'm not sure what the Force has planned for me, but I can say this: I want nothing more than to be a part of the betterment of the universe.
"Sorry. I tend to ramble,"
and with downcast eyes, I turned to rejoin the ranks of my fellow prospective students.

((L337, is there any way you could switch to a third person viewpoint? It'd be so much easier to read...really))

Cheskin

Jedi Master Cheskin nods as the boy speaks softly and to no one in particular. He is impressed with the boy's honesty, and his odd looks do not detract from his subservient attitude. When he is finished and steps back, Cheskin speaks up slowly.

Your honesty does you credit, boy. Your humble and subservient attitude certainly does not hurt you in the eyes of the Council.

Looking to Master Hetzon for a confirming nod, which he receives, Cheskin continues.

Welcome to the Dackktan Temple padawans. You are dismissed to go and find your new quarters and begin trainings. The first order of business for you will be to procure a Master.

Cheskin waves his hand, assuming that Horus will leave, and begins concentrating on the other two present.

After a few surprised blinks, Horus bows before the council and leaves. He had figured that they would be unimpressed, and moreover, worried about his attitude towards the force.
"This surely isn't like I was told it was gonna be like," he thought to himself.

Hetzon

Hetzon and the rest of the Council turn expectant eyes on the remaining two candidates for apprenticeship. Their silence is not uncharacteristic of applicants, but it is important to establish from the beginning that padawans must obey those of higher rank. Only when they are promoted may they begin study of things they wish to study. Until then, they will do as they are told.

Hetzon arches a questioning eyebrow at the continued silence, and his cold blue stare takes on a deep, penetrating look.

Scorp had listened to the first guy speak. Interesting

After he had left Scorp Sat collecting his thoughts HE figured calling them masters would be ok after all that is what they claimed to be. Well if this was the way to open up is life to it's fullest and help people at the same time then failure wouldn't be an option. Stepping forward he Looked one in the eyes to start off matching his cold blue stare with his intense brown one then he began to speak.

"Jedi Masters you have asked ofr me to explain why I feel that I am worthy. In return my answer is this to be worthy of the jedi would be a great honor. But words alone could never prove why one is worthy. No dear Master in order for one to be worthy one should not tell you but in realit the should show you. Evil people don't quit just because you tell them to stop no you must show them why they should stop. I am worthy because I value life at all costs even if it is guilty life. But that is not what makes me worthy no my mostg prised possesion is what makes me orthy that which is my Honor to tarnish it would disgrace me. Not to be arrogant but with out honor the universe would be a foolish and more crimeridden then it all ready is."

Scorp then took a pause figuringhe had said too much he instantly clamed up and took a step backwards.

Xanta

Xanta's mouth twisted into a sneer as Scorp spoke. His idealistic words twisted the Dark Jedi's stomach to the point of almost vomitting, but the time had not yet come for him to reveal his true allegiance. Overtly, that is.

Certainly, boy, your thoughts of honor are respectable, perhaps even honorable themselves. However, how can you be so certain you'll find that here? Certainly, we know that the Jedi Order is not without its own tarnishments on its honor. Or do we still choose to ignore them?

At a hard look from Hetzon, Xanta falls silent, though a defiant stare defends his position on the words he has just spoken. He speaks up again, this time with more than a little contempt, copying Cheskin's words exactly.

Welcome to the Dackktan Temple padawan. You are dismissed to go and find your new quarters and begin trainings. The first order of business for you will be to procure a Master.

Xanta then waves his hand in the same way Cheskin did and stares at the older man with open hatred, which he quickly schools to silence in his face.

Scorp had noticed the sneer. Interesting turning away and proceeding to go find his new quaters he though about the honor the man had said so the jedi had some tarnishes on the honor eh. Well no matter at least they have honor a few mistakes shouldn't not condem those who are worthy anyway.
