I like all the games everyone has listed which I was hoping to go for the original award. I have Chrono Trigger for PSX but I knew it was on SNES..Mario RPG was a fun game to play. I loved Zelda..still fun to play. I haven't beaten Final Fantasy III yet but that was a great game. Kefka did what most other Final Fantasy villians could do so well..control. I guess I'll leave it there.

After going to Japan, I would rather see FF6 written as 6 than 3, but it was 3 when it was released here...
At the time, I don't think we knew that there were three others...
Man, I was so close-minded about my games then...
BTW, I went to a flea market and picked up Illusion of Gaia and FF Mystic Quest (I know, I know, but I wanted to see what was so bad about it)...
Anyway, now I sorta wanna add Illusion of Gaia to my list...
The SNES had some great RPGs.

Yeah, Mystic Quest was wierd, but it was a Final Fantasy, so it goes good with a collection. About the only good thing was that the enemy sprites actually showed damage when they were hurt enough. I think they should do that again, but it would probably be too hard to do in a 3D game. Illusion of Gaia was fun as well. I have the cartridge, but I got it so long ago, I don't remember where I got it. I think I actually may have bought it new from a store. It was a fun game, but it sucked that the enemies were not infinite. One of the few good games made by Enix before merging with Square (alongside Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia).

i was thinking [no this isnt a sign of the apocolypse...] the only games that were good for snes were the rpg's all the rest pretty much sucked...and about the ff3/ff6 thing...get over it the world wont end.
the zeldas were good also

There were some good non-RPG SNES games:
F-Zero series, Street Fighter series, Mortal Kombat series, Killer Instinct
Mario might not be considered an RPG (Super Mario Kart especially), and the same goes with Super Metroid, Donkey Kong, and the Megaman X series. Side scrollers usually aren't considered as RPG-ish. The Zelda series also had many non-RPG peices to it, as well as Harvest Moon and Zombies Ate My Neighbors.
Even though the SNES specialized in RPGs, they had quite a wide variety of games from which to choose, another reason why it is my favorite system.

Getting a**l over the FF 3/FF 6 thing is pretty silly. As of now FF3 does not exist in English so getting confused over what someone is referring to is a non-issue at this point.

Nobody's said anything about E.V.O. Search for Eden yet...
So I thought it needed to be mentioned.
Great game...one of a kind...
Anybody played this (and would you consider it an RPG?)

I'm still on the first level (when you're a fish), but I'd still consider it to be an RPG. It at least has RPG elements, such as a level system, but it is a side scroller, and because of that, some die-hard RPG fans may consider it not to be a "true" RPG. Seems like a fun game so far, though.
I've been looking at all of the old Enix games (before they merged With Squaresoft), and they surprisingly had a really good lineup. I didn't realize that they had such good games until fairly recently.

Some of the older companies that you don't even remember had some of the best games.
PC wise, Red Orb Entertainment was fantastic, but ask someone to name a game by them, nobody knows. (for the record, they created the first Myst (but sold it to another company for release) and they created the Journeyman Project series)
Enix is another of those types of companies...hard to imagine life without their games, but easy to forget which games are theirs...

Luckily, they merged with Squaresoft and their name will live on. Those other companies were not as lucky. Still, it is nice to know that some still remember the days when there were more video games with storyline than not.

I loved Mario RPG and Secret of Mana. I didn't play Chrono trigger for the SNES, but got it for my PS. I enjoy that game a lot.
