As for the short terms.. it's basically/usually the first three or four letters (or in some cases, the first two syllables) from each name, fused into one, capitalizing the first letter in each as to tell the different between the two. x3
Gin x Izuru = GinIzu
Byakuya x Renji = ByaRen
Ichigo x Ishida = IchiIshi
Shuuhei x Yumichika = ShuuYumi ("Shuu" is used as to not be confused by Kyoraku's first name, Shunsui which is also starts with "Shu". Shunsui is shortened to "Shun")
That's how I see it, anyway. ninja

It just gets confusing tho >< W/ the Ichi's etc... Like ByaxIchi... Ichigo? Or Ichimaru >< I started typing that name out fully after reading some of that one ><

They usually go with first names, that way, Ichigo won't be confused with Ichimaru (since his first name is Gin, while Ichigo's is.. Ichigo. o_O)
