The Bandit King Jing xX-mordrenblade-Xx No. Swords are downright useless. not really they weigh less and "Blades don't need reloading"(love that quote)they are great in a pinch, decapitating a zombie may not destroy it but it can slow or halt them They weigh less, therefore you cant swing it with as much force as soemthing heavier, thus increasing the chances of getting your blade stuck. Maybe not really stuck, but you'll lose precious seconds prying it out in a combat situation. But that doesn't make them useless, they'll still kill the zombie if you aim for the head.

Dylan of Argentina Shotguns are big and cunbersome. They're as big as most rifles and just as ergoeconomic, plus oyu dont need to aim right for the head, just the general direction. It's great for those with crap aim.

[H]unk Ok I am saying this with no dissrespect but you guys are stupid. The best weapon would be M4A1 Assualt rifle with benet equiped to the end with a gernade launch attachment. As a side arm I would go with a 45. auto thoe it may only carry 7 shots the power is able to kill a zombie in 2 so that is able to make a small escape route, which is better then none in my books. These weapons would be A)Good against Zombies B) liquires and hunters C)And if it really came down to it Nemis's or Tyrant. Yes, because most civilians are trained to clean, reload, and operate the mounted grenade launchers on military assault rifles and the ammo practically grows on trees, as do the magazines. Sarcasm off. The bayonet is a good idea, though. However, the M4A1 requires some training and briefing on the operation of it, so a civilian would have a few problems. Unless they were a war vet, of course. Also, when it comes to guns vs zombies power is irrelevant, as long as it gets the brain it'll kill, so why go for power when you can go for clip capacity and ammo abundance? But honestly, you insult everyone and pretty much say "no offense". Isn't that an oxymoron?

A shotgun won't promise a kill, but if your surrounded, a nice shotgun blast will send several sprawling.

I'm going with a sword I'm making(Think that Uruk Hai sword from Lord Of The Rings, but slightly shorter.), my SKS for distance shots, and my .22 mag. I know everybody says that you can't go in close for melee because its too dangerous, but if you are just getting zombies that are alone or are a few yards from others, why waste ammo? It's just my opinion but melee can be superior in some cases.

A katana coule eaily cleave the decaying zombie flesh. Rifles are good for long range but if you don't hit their nervous system the bullets will fly through them harmlessly. Anything incendiary would do nicely.

in long range my choice would be bow and arrow that an arrow would be set on fire before shot because if it even touched the zombie would be set on fire. in close range it would have to be a double sided sword or a cumar

Alot of people in this thread have no idea what they are talking about.
Such as, the M4 is essentially just a shorter M16. And the book even says to ignore the M16. Also, the M4 does not have a bayonet attachment. The grenade launcher would be useless against the living dead because of the simple fact shrapnel is highly unlikely to hit them in the head, punch through and destroy the brain.
And the person who wants a bow and arrow. The only way to kill a zombie would be to set it on fire because it's unlikely an arrow could penetrate the skull at a longer range.
Personal choice, for me, would be an M1 Garand with bayonet, M1918 Trench knife, and colt 1911A1 for sidearm.

teacup mouse Give me a hammer and a machette, I think I'll be good to go. I like that idea. The hammer seems a little to short for my liking though. I guess the weopon of choice really depends on your situation: Lets say you are being backed by the government and had military training then weopons like assault rifles, snipers and even tanks and flamethrowers would be choices. If you are in a defendable house with no need to move any considerable distance than a shotgun would be fine. Or if you are on the move for a considerable distance then you are going to want something light such as a rifle. Close room=sword. Know what I mean?

The onyl thing that a tank could do would be to drive over them. unless it had several fletchet and canister rounds, because HE and AR rounds do nothing to a corpse except maybe put a hole right through it. Read World War Z and see what I mean.

But as for the m4 not having a bayonet attachment, that doesn't explain why there's a whole site dedicated to M4 bayonets. Also, the Grenade launchers can load HE rounds. Although yea, ignore the M16. It's high maintanence and a long rifle, not a good combo for zombie outbreak.

They don't fall to pieces. Go read World War Z. They don't hyave organs to disrupt. A shell will go straight through them, and not explode or anything, nothing strong enough in them to stop them. Unless you're lucky to hit them in the head, or the ground. and even then, they shield themselves from shrapnel head hits. Modern ballistics are meant to do concussive damage and disrupt the inner workings of a human, this doesn't pertain to zombies at all.
And about the brick wall, that's one of the dumbest annalogies I've ever heard. They are able to absorb the shock of the shell passing through them, something the brick wall obviously can't, and a brick wall just falls in on itself.

Please dont mention World war Z in front of me. I really want to read it. D: one of these days... Also, if I'm not mistaken tank shells can be equipped with proximity fuses, so instead of going through they explode in front. The things wreaked havoc on the German forces in the battle of the Bulge.
