"A much more positive unicorn is the bright orange stallion over there. He is named Gnist, which means spark, for the ligther spots on his coat. A real bundle of energy, that one is. Avari often succeds in persuading him, exploiting his helpful, happy nature and his lack of experience. But he is also blessed with a keen intuision, to the point where I suspect he might sometimes just be humoring her.

It is very hard to upset him, and he spends most of his time just having fun. He tends to be rather impulsive, and seems almost unable to sit still. But if you need someone to entertain you, he will be happy to help."

"Now, I know the water mare over there might not look like much at first, she's not the most confident or outgoing unicorn in the herd, but she tends to grow on people.
Zephyr is especially taken with her, and it's really no wonder. She is very sweet and kind, if a bit shy, and always ready to help people - provided that they do not scare her away first, of course. Skitty? Yea, Meriel can be rather jumpy around people she does not know, but she gets over that after a while.
Anyway, her and Zephyr are really cute together, and he really seems to enjoy her company. Of course, this makes Flamme watch out for her too, so none of her herdmates would dare bully her. Not that they would do so anyway, at least not when she's been part of the herd for so long. It might have seemed tempting for someone like Avari when Meriel was still new to the herd, but by now, most have developed some amount of protective feelings towards her. And after being treated well for so long, she is starting to become much more confident within the herd.
I really hope this development will continue; she looks so happy, and her softly colored fur is practically shining with health. It's so nice to see."

"Chael... Well, his name means celestial or angelic, and he is indeed a rather pleasant unicorn, but that is not the reason he was named such. He - and his twin brother, Raphael - were born with a double set of wings, which tend to make them a rather impressive sight. Another feature which makes them easy to recognize is a pale pattern on their faces. It reminds me of the shine of certain gemstones, but Chael is of the mud element, so it might no be entirely fitting. Still, I rather like the thought. Being a mud elemental should allow Chael to heal, but he is still mostly untrained in that aspect of his powers. However, Silvana has been helping him lately, and I hope that will help him to a greater level of controlling his powers."

"Gnist sired a pair of twins with Kai, and the son which remained with our group was named Rocio. He is still young, and seems to have a great need to prove himself. He will rush head first into problems without a second thought, and often finds himself in more trouble than he can handle, though he'll never admit to that. Others have called him brash, angry, hotheaded, stubborn and impatient, and that is probably true. I can only hope that time will calm him down some. However, his black-and-white outlook on things, as well as his natural optimism, might be of use to us in these dark times. I don't know..."

"Inara arrived at the Agency with Aricin, having been rescued from darklings with his help. Since the two first met, Aricin has been very protective of the fair Inara, and at times his behavior even gains a possesive note. No wonder really, she is very nice and kind, I'm sure a lot of stallions would like to lay a claim on her. She, for her part, doesn't seem especially taken with Aricin, though she is obviously very grateful. Luckily, one of this mare attributes seems to be never-ending patience, and so far she doesn't really seem to mind the stallions behavior.
Being quite peaceful and serene, Inara has had no problems making herself at home here."

"Pavan is the name of one of my most joyful and energetic unicorns. She likes to flutter around the agency, and pursue whatever has caught her interest at the current point in time. Very unlikely to think twice before speaking or acting on her impulses, she can get in trouble. Luckily, her calm friend Tavan is around most of the time, and always does his best to keep her from getting too carried away.
And though her quickly waning interest in most things can make her seem a bit superficial at times, she means well. Her optimistic, carefree nature and charming smile make most unicorns forgive her anyway.
She can really lighten up your day, if you can keep up with her."

"For quite a long time, the only hippocampus unicorn in this herd was the pale Kailani. As an air elemental, a winged one at that, she is not as confined to the water as most other hippocampus unicorns. Thus, seeing her flying around in the agency, like the air is really water, is not a rare sight. Regardless, she does prefer to spend a good deal of time in the stream, getting to know the other more-or-less water-bound unicorns.
Recently, this includes the new hippocampus stallion, who has only just joined the herd. I am confident that Kailani will help him to get settled. She seems to have a soft spot for unicorns with that mutation, so with any luck they should get along just fine.
The new arrival aside, she seems to admire Connor quite a bit, which can hardly surprise anyone. She also talks quite a lot with Silvana. How the gentle healer and this strong, determined air mare find they have anything in common beyond their love of water, has caused me to wonder.
However, they do both have a clear sense of their role within the herd, and the same determination to do their best. Kailani might have a stronger sense of duty, but I guess that wouldn't be a problem.

All in all, Kailani is one of the most reliable unicorns in my herd, though she tends to get restless when danger approches. She needs to act then; being passive is not in her nature. Luckily, strong-willed and brave as she is, waiting at home is rarely asked of her."

O.C. note
Kailani was a surprise birthday gift, in 2005 I think, thanks everyone ^_^

"The earth stallion Taran arrived at the agency along with Pavan, both part of the herd that Nitesh led. He is very fond of her, and likes her outgoing and social nature, although he'd prefer her to be a little more cautious at times."

"Kalinda is a rather stable and dependable mare, at least for a fire elemental. She still has quite a temper, and all the strong emotion one might expect, but being rather experienced she has no trouble keeping a cool head. Thus she is quite gentle most of the time, and rather selfconfident. These traits are reflected in her name, which means sun. Flamme has exhibited some interest in her."

"The water stallion with the teal patches? That would be Alger, who is quite sweet, but also rather timid."

Personality
"Honorable, loyal, trustworthy and proud with strong morals, Aricin always seeks to do "the right thing". He will do his best to defend the innocent, but tends to have a rather black/white outlook on things. His obligation to his herd means a lot for him, and he accepts Valdemar's (the leader of his old herd) decisions, and looks up to him. He does not desire power for it's own sake, but will use what he does have in the best way possible. In matters concerning females, he was raised to see them as weak beings which needed to be protected and cared for, having little to no will of their own. Thus he is quite the gentleman, but expects them to do as they're told.
This goes for mating too, accepting whatever male the leader appoints them, and mating only with the chosen male, who in turn can have several mates. Thus, he finds the Agency unicorns' somewhat more relaxed attitude towards breeding rather difficult to accept. Not without promise, as being able to mate with so many females is rather appealing, but Aricin is extremely reluctant to share his "own" females.(In the agency, in Aricin's opinion, this means Inara. She might not agree.) However, being a stranger to the agency, and not quite sure of the customs, he has decided to be polite, and keep from all females(save Inara), out of respect for his host stallions."
Backstory
Aricin grew up in a large herd on the other side of the mountains. Unable to stand the females' pampered way of life, he quickly chose to become a male.
Now, in most other herds, this would have caused the lead stallion to chase him away, but this stallion, Valdemar, was old and wise. He knew that there were many males in the area who'd want to take over his heard. As such, he'd taken to give up one or two of his females to each young stallion related to him, in exchange for their help against rivaling herds To further ensure their loyalty, he made sure to raise each stallion to become very noble and honorable. Due to this practice, his herd had grown and, allied with another herd using the same tactics, ruled over most of the land.
As Aricin was Valdemar's own son, he was offered to join the ranks of the fighters, and remain a member of the herd. Accepting, like most other stallions born in the herd, Aricin trained under Valdemar and protected the other herdmembers. Soon, he became a skilled warrior, and found that he liked the thrill of fighting. Killing, however, always left a bad taste in his mouth, but it was rarely necessary. Fights with rivaling unicorns never got that serious, and the herd's reputation made most predators seek their meals elsewhere. All in all, Aricin was happy, and took great pride in his herd.

Then one fateful day, a group of odd winged predators attacked an old mare, who'd strayed from the herd to give birth. When the stallions found her dead, they swore vengeance and managed to hunt down most of the foreign creatures, killing them. The few dark beings, which managed to escape, fled back over the mountains.
The unicorns didn't intend to let the killers escape, however if all the warriors were to go, the herd would be left defenseless. So Valdemar decided to send only three stallions over the mountains. He picked good fighters who were able to fly; Aricin, an air unicorn called Riordan, and a winged steam elemental named Socorro.

After a rough and cold trip over the mountain range, the three unicorns found themselves in a land which might once have looked similar to their own, now, however, it seemed sick. None of them could explain why, but they all sensed something completely wrong.
Still, they were disciplined, and so they kept their mind focused on their task. Within the week they had tracked down the few dark creatures and killed them. On the way back however, they clearly heard a mare's distressed cry for help. Deciding to investigate, they found a beautiful mare surrounded by creatures, which, despite being smaller and wingless, smelled almost like the ones they were sent to kill. It was enough, Aricin intervened and soon the four unicorns had driven off the dangerous beings. The mare was in a bad shape and fainted, but Aricin did his best help her. It wasn't long before the mare was awake once more.
Grateful for their aid, the mare was only all too happy to answer the strange stallions' questions. She explained that she had been on her way back to a place called the agency, the only place still safe from the darklings' attacks. As the stallions realized that the darklings could pose a serious threat, they decided to tell Valdemar immediately. The mare however, still wasn't fully healed, there was no way she could make the trip over the mountains, provided that she wanted to. And if they were to leave her alone, she would be easy prey for the darklings. Aricin offered to stay and take care of her, while the others warned their herd.

And so it was that Aricin a few day later found himself far away from anything and anyone he'd ever known, with only the foreign mare for company, heading for this "Agency" she seemed so determined to reach. He had a hard time understanding what could have forced the local unicorns to retreat from the lands around them. The darklings were dangerous, but surely they could not be that powerful. But the fear in his companion's eyes when she spoke of them was very real, and Aricin decided to heed her advice. Maybe there'd at least be someone who knew a bit more and could give him more satisfying answers. Maybe. There wasn't much else for him to do until Valdemar sent for him, or he managed to find a safe place for the mare. He might as well make himself useful in the meantime.
Note
Aricin was a price from the character contest, and his personality and backstory has been copied from that thread.
Aricin is not tecnically a true member of the herd, he is merely staying with it untill he can return to his homeland.
