Meanwhile, Eris was finally up on Gust Cliffs. The wind blew against her as she climbed up to her favorite spot. There, she could sit and think as the wind made her long white hair dance. She was so different from her aunt and sister. Everything from her fur to her goals. Her goals? Oh yes, she had a goal. But she had hidden it from everyone, even from Jei. It was hers and hers alone. Blood red eyes stared out across the cliffs that made the wind so violent here. She wondered briefly what her mother thought when she spent her last moments here.
Yes, Eris knew her mother died here. How and why she did not know but that didn't matter. Her mother's spirit was here. At least thats what she had always believed. She thought about singing, but no song came to her mind. Songs just appeared in her head, she never had to think about them. They came forth from her like the wind on the cliffs; strong, violent, and sudden. It was just another thing to set her apart from the tribe. She had a beautiful voice and could use it to sing songs that would make snakes cry. But what good was a song? It only showed the emotions in her heart. It did nothing else.
Again she thought about the future. The dismal life she would lead once Jei had to take her rightful place in he tribe. And Eris, she would be cast off to the side. Ignored and forgetten. Forever chained to her fate. Chained, yes that was the word. She always felt rather trapped in this situation. She had no key to unlock any potiental she had. She could not break away from this path. She was bond to it. She had no power to break her chains.

Jei wanted to run up and break her mother down, but.. she knew better. That would only result in more time away from Eris, and she really couldn't have that taken away. The kitten sat, staring blankly at the visitor, a bored expression on her face. If she started to say something horrible about Eris like others had in the past, she'd get her revenge somehow.
Stupid cougars.
Stupid mother.

Moriean almost chuckled as she noticed how rapidly Ruth's expression changed, but settled for a polite smile.
"If I wanted to beat an apology out of her, I could have done it myself."
While this was perfectly true, as it wasn't difficult to get Eris to say the words, most cougars didn't bother. The kitten was so absent minded that it woulnd't have meant anything anyway. The easiest thing was just to get her out of the way to keep her from bumping into anything. Everyone had long since given up on trying to actually teach her the lesson behind the apology.
"Actually, I've come to ask a favor regarding her. I assure you, it will be no expense to you."

"A favor? What is it?"
Ruth had no idea as to why anyone in their right mind would something to do with Eris. She had already tried to put into her daughter's head that Eris was useless and should be tossed aside like trash. So far that hadn't worked but she was confidant that once Jei was an adult, she'd see Eris for the pointess existance she was and turn away from her.

"Let me raise Eris. I have no kittens of my own to train, and it would be much easier for you if she wasn't such a distraction."
She glanced at the black kitten to see how she was taking it, amused that she was clearly seething although doing her best not to appear so. Moriean decided to allay her fears by stating the obvious, and to make sure Ruth understood that Eris was not going to just disappear.
"Of course, Jei can still come see her if she likes."
She would just be living with the mountain huntress instead, and Moriean would hunt for her and try to train her instead of just letting her wander around all day.
"Just let me try and she may find her totem yet."

A great opportunity to get the useless cougar out of a mother's hair. To fully concentrate on her own daughter and never have to deal with the constant problems of a distracted child. But Ruth's answer would surprise Moriean. She growled deeply, her anger spreading arcross her face.
"NO! I will not allow that stupid irresponsible waste of space to be raised by someone who pity's her existance. I promised Hera before she gave birth that I'd see Eris raised to an adult if anything ever happened to her. And I will. As for her totem, I can't even imagine spirit that would look upon her with any favor. She'll be lucky if she reaches adulthood.
And I doubt my silly daughter would allow for this either. She spends FAR too much time keep Eris from doing anything dangerous. But that will change when Jei becomes an adult. She will see Eris for what she really is. And when Jei finally realizes that she's nothing more than a bit of fur floating on the wind, I'll send her join her mother in death!"
An old promise and the knowledge of what her daughter would do right now was the only things holding Eris to Ruth. And Ruth did plan on killing Eris the moment Jei showed any signs of letting her go. But for now, she'd have to wait. She glared at her own daughter before turning to face Moriean once again.

Moriean nodded solomnly, trying not to aggraviate Ruth with memories of her best friend any more than she already had, but she kept her voice firm, in case something set off the other huntress and she went into hysterics over what Moriean assumed was unhealed grief.
"I have not come to you out of pity. I have reason to suspect that the spirits may have an unusual path for Eris, and I still offer my guidance. It's honorable of you to keep your word, but when you have fufilled your promise, do not let hatred blind you. She may be of use to Quicktalon yet."

"I highly doubt that. Even some of the weakest kittens have shown some sort of progress. No one has ever been able to teach that kitten anything. She always gets distracted. And she's mine to deal with as I see fit. Now leave. I have to finish with Jei's training."
It was a final saying and Ruth would hear no more about Eris actually being useful. It wasn't true in her mind, Eris was as good as dead.

"Of course, the decision is yours. Fare Day to you both."
Either Lyka was completely out of her mind, or Ruth was too hateful to acknowledge anything unusual about Eris other than her utter uselessness. Moriean decided not to pursue it any further, especially when she was only dragging up bitter memories for the other huntress. With an understanding smile, she turned and left.

Jei couldn't hide a harsh snarl, fists clenching until her small claws started to draw blood. She hated her mother. She hated her mother.
She wanted her mother to curl up and die.
Fighting the urge to go wreck something, she stood, entire body tensed. Someday, somehow, she would ruin her stupid, heartless mother. She'd show all of them that Eris wasn't as brainless and.. useless as they said. Her sister could do something (she was holding onto this idea), they just hadn't found it yet.
The kitten wiped her hands on her opposite arms, the blood tinting the paler half of her coat pink. Well.. At least she would be able to knock something around today. Or there would be more stupid 'focus, Jei, focus' lectures.
As long as there was bloodshed, and the thing ended up dead, Jei didn't see the problem. She might as well have fun with it.
Right? Then again, a skilled huntress got things done quickly and things were clean.. Bah. Jei didn't see why that was so great. Sure, she wanted to be well known as a fighter in the clan, but.. A fighter, that was it. Not someone who gets food. Someone who made things..
Safe?
"Are we going?"

Ruth sent a sharp slap across Jei's head as she snarled at her.
"You are too young to understand. When you are older, you'll know her real worth. Now lets go."
Ruth lead her daughter off to the areas with small game that she could catch under her eye.

Jei scowled, knowing much better to talk back to her mother. Shuffling after her, she glanced once (a fierce glare on her young face) over her shoulder. "Well. What am I supposed to do?" She knew the routine. Find something, bring back some remains for a 'warm-up', then do whatever she failed at the day before perfectly..
Of course, things did vary from day to day, other then that. Occasionally she would get nice little.. assignments from her mother (a strong huntress herself) and really have a chance to improve herself. Other days, it was just running back and forth and getting her hands all messy. Sometimes, a mix of both.
Jei really never got how those things could help with her future. She was young - she probably would have to just be alert, and learn the real things when she could handle them more easily. Being a kitten ment you were pathetic and had no worth - yet. Being a teen ment you could gain a real position..
She could fight and it actually be considered a fight when she was a teen.. That was one thing she couldn't wait for. She could get something of a mentor and learn the things that she would need later on. Maybe techniques that never failed. Maybe a way to conserve energy. Maybe.. Her head started spinning with all the possibilities. It was so far away.. She didn't have to worry about it yet.

"Well since you are so eager to to bare those fangs, lets put you up against something that can actually fight back."
She dragged her daughter off into the rocky mounatins. There, she had pinned up a young boar. He hadn't gotten his tusks yet but he still had the energy to put up a fight.
"Now, you think you can fight. Then kill that. Bring me its head!"

Up on the cliffs, Eris was still pondering her fate. She didn't know of Moriean's attempt to take her to a more caring home. But.....would she have gone even if she had. In all truth, Eris was afraid to be away from her sister for too long. She knew all the training spots Jei and Ruth went too. If she ever got nervous, she would just go to each one until she found them. It would mean her getting yelled at but it kept her in a safe state of mind.
But still, she felt the chains of her fate wrapping ever more tightly around her. How could she escape this binding?
"How? How can I do this?"
She spoke this to no one, she knew none of the others were there. Until she heard a movement. She blinked, looking over her shoulder to see a caped and hooded figure sitting on a rock behind her. Who was this cougar? How did she get so close without Eris noticing. She was actually paying attention at the time.
"Who are you?"
The creature rose its covered head and "looked" at Eris. Its face was hidden. The only thing to reveal its presense were the two hands that came out of the sleeves, and the two fee that rested below the cape. She was a cougar, but who was she? In one hand, the mysterious cougar held a staff, knarled and bent with age. A dream catcher was on the top.
"I? I am no body. I am some body. Who are you?"

Jei didn't really.. know what to do! She looked startled for a moment, staring curiously at the obviously-peeved young boar. She paused, taking a deep breath before putting up an obvious defensive position - arms held up in front of her face. She wasn't.. fast enough to make a first move. She wasn't focused enough. She wanted to say something, but, apparently, she didn't have time.
