I think that's a good start. i think parents should know, even if they agree with abortions they should know incase of a botch attemt and so they can give the child (who I really don't think they should be having sex if their that young but whatever) help if their is an emergancy. I would like to know if I had a daught, that's called being a parent. Sadly some girls may be abused, but it wouldn't be fair to other parents who would want to help.

Pyrotechnic Oracle "We're going to sacrifice a lot of girls' lives," said Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y. Oh, the utterly nauseating irony. gonk This is all I have to say about the opposition to parental notification laws: wahmbulance

I see the irony; Hillary says that this law will sacrifice girl's lives, when really, it's going to save the lives of many unborn girls. That and the fact that, if someone can bring girls accross state lines in order to get an abortion, people will abuse it. Rapists will lie; They might, say, drug the girl to sleep and cross the border at night. If any one asks, he's helping her get an abortion without her parent's permission. Same with kidnappings. Or murder.

Ah I see, and then there is what Kate said. More girls will die if it was legal.

Ooo, so much from both sides!
In the PCG, most of us are thinking that this is against girls sometimes... In some cases, you know. I'm perfectly aware all the details of the dangers, strangers, nah-dee-nah-dee-dah.
As for me, I dun understand how this is a "Victory for girls everywhere." What if Missy got pregnant by her boyfriend Mister and didn't want her parents to know? Mister can drive her to... OH CANANDA!

Why should her parents -not- know? The only plausible reason I can think of is if she has an abusive home or something, in which case the solution would be to find a way to get her legal guardianship switched to someone else, for reasons entirely unrelated to the abortion. If she's in a state where parent's permission is required, and she has religious parents who would be against it, then I should think that, if the parents can make decisions about other life affecting surgeries, why shouldn't they have a say in the case of abortion? If her parents would simply not approve, and she's in a state where only their notification is required, who cares? Obviously, if she's having sex that her parents wouldn't approve of, she probably doesn't care enough about their approval to worry about getting an abortion. What are they going to do, lock her in her room for 9 months?
Not to mention how much this can be abused; Aside from what I already mentioned, ***** who convince their "targets" that they are boyfriend/girlfriend and in love can knock them up, and then take them across state lines to get abortions. I mean, it happens anyways in states that require parental permission; The older "boyfriend" just lies about being her parent.

... honestly, i think this bill is kind of... a slap on the wrist. it's demographic isn't very large, just underage women traveling across state lines. it's barely touching the abortion issue, and the punishment is pathetic. it's better than nothing, but it is pretty close to being nothing. unless i'm missing some key element of this bill.

Um... I think the bill is less about ending abortion, and more about protecting young girls. confused

what i;'m saying is, although it helps, it doesn't really seem to be that powerful of a bill. it doesn't seem like a common problem.
