A walk to the bank

Quote:
" You know once upon a time it was cute when you chewed up my mail, now you know better" Umbra admonished the neon green and black dog that walked beside her. Decusuna the dog in question had 'fetched' the mail earlier that morning and left it somewhat worse for the wear. Looking at her canine companion Umbra noted that the dog showed no shame and was enjoying the long walk they were taking to the address on said mail.

Umbra hoped that whatever this account business was wouldn't take too long, she'd left Soren in Tybalt's care and the artistic teen was not the best of babysitters. " If this is some sort of you've already won just pay us a grand scam I am not going to be happy" she muttered lengthening her stride and picking up the pace. She's never even heard of this place before and Neph would have told her about any bank accounts they shared.

Once she'd reached the building in question she paused for a moment to tie Decs up before walking calmly in.

Prosper Reed stood at the counter like the dutiful manager he was. His appearance was pristine and every hair on his head was in order. He was waiting patiently for the next new Account Owner.

His features were calm, but inside he was going crazy. He was tired. He had sent out four or five of the tags in one day which had caused him alot of paper work and reasearching. He hadn't realized that some of the contracts might overlap one another, let alone so many as four or five.

He glanced at the security camera monitors and noticed that there was a young woman on her way. he fixed his tie and brushed off invisble and non-existant dust bunnies from his shoulders as he waited.

Amber eyes searched briefly before locking onto someone standing at a counter. Umbra walked over to the young man standing there and smiled somewhat pleasently at him. If this wasn't a scam then starting their meeting off on bad note would probably not help her. " Excuse me sir , I recieved a paper in my mail that directed me to come here" she said fishing the paper in question out of her purse.

He gave her a tired small, "Welcome to Past Legacies Corporation." He stood up straight and gave a short bow, "I am Prosper Reed. Manager of this bank. And that is a tag to your Account here." The young man nodded towards the piece of paper in her hand.

He waited for the questions. He knew they would come, the same one's. The young manager would have given her a lengthy introduction, but he decided to wait.

Prosper thought that he might as well save himself the energy and wait for the questions to be asked on the young lady's leisure.
There was no fake cheer from this man, no lets charm the sucker smile thus Umbra decided this was legit even if it made no sense. Betting that this was one of Talon's subtle ways of giving her money with some sort of trick involved she nodded." Well this is odd but then again everything on gaia is, is there anything I need to do to get into the account any sort of tests?"

While Umbra was curious she held back her remaining questions, this Prosper man looked exhausted and probably didn't need to face the spanish inquisition. Besides, often times things answered themselves when given enough time.
"You'll have to go through our security to have your safety deposit box retrieved. If you would give your tag, the parchment, to the young lady over there, she will give you the Key to your Account. Please remember all information on the tag."

He paused as he watched the exchange and began a short explaination, "The Accounts here are created by special families to have their family heirlooms retained here. So the creator of your Account is probably you have never heard about or met."

Veronica brought up the Key case and presented it to the young lady.

Umbra wondered for a moment which of her parent's sides of the family was responsible for this. None of them as far as she knew were natives to Gaia, in fact she was one of the first in quite some time to find her way there. Pleased that she might be able to add a new peice of information to her rather jumbled and patchwork family tree she nodded again.

She handed the tag over to the young woman after scanning it one last time and commiting the words on it to memory. Taking the case she opened the lid and peered inside. Reaching in Umbra gently plucked the key from the case and brought it out so she could better look at it. It ivory in colour if not in composition and obviously somewhat old. The grip was a large creacent moon that gave Umbra a quick flashback to her Sailor Moon veiwing days. However the thing that interested her most about the key was the strange black lettering on it. The language it was in was none she recalled ever having seen before.

"It's beautifull she murmered before looking back at Prosper " If this is the key I can't wait to see what was left behind in the account."

Giving a short nod of thanks to Veronica, the manager made his way towards the only visible door in the room besides the entrance elevator, asking for Umbra to follow him politely.

Entering the vault room, he quickly explained the process of accessing the safety deposit box and gave warnings on the security system. Though in truth the security system was a different type then the ordinary one, it was a judge different things rather than input.

He played with the silver pocket watch in his pocket as he waited for Umbra to enter the vault room then remained for a few seconds, waiting for whatever questions the girl may have on the process or anything else.
Umbra walked into the vault room and grinned, apparently today was going to be a good day. Still a part of her held a bit of suspicion and she turned to face Propser " Are you sure there's no strange trick to this like having to replace the item taken with something else?"

"No m'am. There are no tricks. Just make sure to get everything inputted correctly." He gave a reassuring smile.

Prosper Reed began to walk out the door of the room but before he shut the door behind him he added, "You'll have the room for however long you need. Knock on the door three times and it will be opened."

Umbra nodded and turned to the task at hand, she remembered the information that had been on the paper so it shouldn't be to hard. Before her was a small compter terminal already at the login page, she walkedo ver to it and quickly typed in her account number and key name.

Suddenely the screen turned black then blue and then black again. Umbra cursed figuring she'd done something wrong , she was about to go call for help when dozens of strange yet familiar symbols appeared on the screen. Looking down she recognized them as the same type as those on the key. Blue lines appeared creating a grid around each symbol.

"Well that's rather smart" Umbra mused getting it. Even if someone had managed to break there way into the vault and had known the account number and key name they couldn't access the account without the key becuase they needed it to counter the last safety measure. Using the mouse she swiftly clicked the symbols in the order they appeared on the key and waited.

She heared a soft whirring sound and looked down to see the bottom of the terminal open to reveal an ornate lockbox. Kneeling down the place the key in the hole and gentely turned it smiling shen she heard a click, so far so good.

Lifting the lid she frowned at the contents. A rather boring looking picture was what she'd come here for, the key was more interesting than this was, why would anyone in her family leave behind an old picture that didn't show anything.

Nevertheless the retreived the picture and key then knocked quickly on the door three times.

Micah, the head of security, opened the door, making way to allow Umbra to leave the vault room. The guard then pointed her in the direction of where Prosper stood near elevator, papers and things laid out of the coffee table, waiting for her.

The young manager had begun to work on his paper work, hoping to have the oppurtunity to go home early after this Owner had finished her business. He looked up as he heard the sound of the door open and waited, hands folded behind his back.

Umbra walked over to prosper eyeing the papers warily, she hoped she wasn't going to have to sign anything overly important, she hated reading fineprint and she didn't have the patience to sift through the regular documents, besides she needed to get home to Soren and Tybalt.

" I have the uh, picture that was left to me" She raised an eyebrow " So now what?"
"Wonderful." He pointed towards a seat and then took the seat across from it. "Please have a seat."

He opened the Record and began to inform of the rules of how she would be required to keep track of all things that occur with the Account. He also explained the fine points of the Account, of how the Heirloom and Key would manifest into human and creature. He reassured her that the magic was carefully handled and the he would be always aware when such growths would occur.

"Before we fill out the certificate and wrap things up, do you have any questrions you would like to ask?"

She shook her head "No I get it, it's strange but to be expected I suppose." She was amused by the two way records and pleased that someone would be able to tell her when a growing would occur

The manager nodded his head, sending strands of chestnut hair every which way, which was quickly corrected by him brushing his hand through his hair.

"You will need to choose a name for your Legacy, the little girl. Then we shall both sign the certificate and we'll be done for today."

He sat ready, pen in hand and held over the certificate. All he needed was the name then he could go home and rest and pray that he would have a short break for however long possible.

"Mira " Umbra replied calmly "I'd like to call her Mira" She briefly wondered if she was going to run out of names one day with all the children she kept.

Taking a pen from her pocket she carefully signed her name on the certificate. She marvled at the way her handwriting remained just as bad as it had been when she'd first learned to write." So we're done now ?"

Prosper quickly jotted the name down and then signed his own name. Then he closed the book and held it out to Umbra with both hands, "Thank you for your business. I will be contacting you on the time of your Account's manifestation."

He stood up and then bowed, "Have good day miss."

Umbra nodded and took the book " Thank you and have good day yourself." She smiled before turning and walking towards the exit, it had been an interest trip, she'd come in with nothing and left with a new potential child and critter as well as deep need to contact her uncle Brian and see if his family history records mentioned this in anyway.

Dear journal

It's finally happened, I've joined the ranks of many on gaia and found an item that will grant me a child. I've found it amusing that untill now all of my childredn had been adopted already alive , well minus Kilvian but I'm not sure he wasn''t actually alive within the soulkardn same goes with Brekke.

The strangest thing though was that apparently this child is part of my family legacy, of course I'm not even sure what that legacy is ( though I have a hunch) only that it must have been special since the bank only deals with very special accounts. Here i am with a rather intresting lookign key which apparently will turn into this childs companion and a boring looking photograph of fog over water.

In order to figure this out I'll need help, I'm going to see if my uncle can trace back the first member of our family to travel to Gaia and I'll get Talon on figuring out whatever stranage language these markings on the key are. Untill then both key and hierloom, Avalon and Mira respectively go everywhere with me since traveling on my person is about the only safe place to be in the house.

Dear Diary:

Well whatever sort of material this key is made of it’s certainly child resistant. I left Neph alone with the kids for twenty minutes while I mowed the lawn and came back to Tybalt painting Soren’s toes while the twin tailed demonic child gnawed on my heirloom’s companion. There were no marks on the key afterwards however so I’m seriously hoping Avalon doesn’t come out of this horribly scarred in any way.

In other news, Talon just sent me a file via email with the translations and origins of the markings on the key so I'm going to work on confiming my theories on who Mira was.

Research rp

Umbra looked up from her book when her compute issued the jaunty little tune that let her know someone had emailed her. Sitting up and placing the novel on her pillow Umbra grinned, she had known it wouldn’t take Talon too long to analyze the symbols on the key.

As she stood and walked across the room to her computer Umbra felt her heart flutter. She was positive that Talon's analyalis would confirm her suspicions about the origin Mira and Avalon.

That of course a was clue in and of itself, Avalon, it had given her a place and mythos to follow. That added with the picture that would become Mira had practically screamed Lady of the lake to her. It was possible she was wrong but she’d soon find out.

*A half hour later Umbra was busy decoding any and all of the texts she had dug up. After receiving the email from Talon she’d been somewhat annoyed to have merely gotten an alpahabet with translations. Apparently she was going to have to do this on her own.

Using the files Talon had sent her , Umbra was at least happy to have been able to confirm that Mira was indeed the Lady of the lake. She'd been left puzzled for the time being however as to what Avalon was and how they were connected to her. It would take further reasearch to discover that.

For the time being though she sifted through files in both english and code on the Lady of of the lake.

In the end she created a small document of what she considered to be relavent information..

Quote:

The lady of the lake had several imporant roles in Arthurian legend. She carried Arthur to Avalon after his final battle as well as raised Lancelot after his father's death. She is reported to have enchanted Merlin and given Arthur the sword Excalibur. Her true name is unknown but she was known as Nimue, Viviane, Niniane, Nyneve, and several other variations.

The Lady of the lake is featured in several poems and documents that concern King Arthur but all appear to give slighty different accounts of her personality and actions.

"Umbra, your Account is nearly ready to grow but there is something you must do. You need to surround your Account with three objects that you believe to be important once your Account has manifested."

"Thank the gods that's over " Umbra grumbled opening the door to the house. She'd been walking all day shopping picking up some special things and a few groceries. Her trip had been required when she'd opened Mira's journal and found a note from Prosper stating that she needed to get three things that would important for Mira and Avalon when they grew which would supposedly be soon. Gods knew she had enough baby stuff left over from when her other kids had been little. Not wanting to bother Prosper for clarification of exactly what she was supposed to get she had gone out and hoped for the best.

" Tybalt I'm back please put the stuff in the bags at the door away" She called out as she kicked off her grungy and worn sneakers and placed a few small plastic bags down before continuing on to Mira's room. Hopefully the boy would listen and she wouldn't return later onto to find the bags in the same palce she'd left them and food going bad.

Once she enterd the small, cozily decorated room Umbra grinned, while shopping had been lobg and stresfull she'd gotten what she wanted and hopefully it was to pay off soon. Brushing her pink tipped bangs out of the way she moved over to the small crib she'd set up. For now both heirloom and key resided in it though she knew she might need a seperate bed for Avalon at some point.

Amber eyes sparkling with excitement she pulled the first item out of her bag and set it next to the duo. It was a small casset that contained a varitey of both ancient and morden celtic songs both intstrumental and vocal. Umbra had felt that even if by birth here Mira would techinaically be a Gaian her true roots lay elsewhere and the msuic would be the first in a series of things Umbra would do to help her remain connected to her heritage.

The second item she pulled from her bag was more traditonal and less improtant in any special way related to Mira or avalon but helpfull in general. A book of Mother Goose's nursery rhymes and fairy tales was laid into the crib. While it would be a long time before Mira or Avalon could read Umbra had learned over the years that reading to babies was important. It provided one on one time, helped children learn to speak quicker and when they watched you read to them babies learned basic concepts like page flipping and reading from left to right. While Umbra already owned many baby books she'd insisted on buying an new book just for Mira and avalon.

The final items Umbra took from the bag were meant purely for Avalon. Though she had no idea exactly what Avalon would manifest as she doubted he would be anything too big and had opted to get him a setof food and water dishes with his name inscribed on them using the ancient symbols that were on the key.

Once she had placed the bowls down she stepped back from the crib and waited. If nothing interesting happenws after five minutes she'd turn the baby moniter on and leave the room after all a watched pot never boils.

And so we grow

Umbra had been at the door to leave when she noticed that the room seemed to be getting hazier. Turning she blinked in amazement at the sight of what appeared to be a fountain of white and grey mist erupting from Mira and Avalons crib. She walked towards it only to lose her way soemhow.

Not wanting to upset the other occupants of the house she silently wandered for several minutes well aware that this was impossible but taking it as par for the course. Suddenly she felt something grab her arm and the mist instantly cleared. Looking down she saw an small hand clutching her arm , following it her eyes fell upon Mira now a fully manifested baby. She looked up at her with the most enchanting blue eyes Umbra had ever seen.

All in all Mira was a beautifull baby as far as Umbra was concerned, her hair at the top of her head was silvery and shiny, it melted into a pale blue for a few inches then darkened into something approaching navy at the tips. Her skin was not pale or cream or even tan but some sort of mixture of the three making her fair but not delicate or sickly looking.

Umbra's attention however was soon drawn to where the key had once rested, in it's place was was a large greyish white egg. Swearing mentally she piled the blankets in the crib around it the same way she had with M'hall's egg years ago. " Now I have to figure out what you are" She murmured knowing that eggs needed incubating and that Mira wasn't qualified to do such a thing.

Scooping Mira up Umbra ignored her new daughter's protests at being sepeated from the Avalon. She wasn't leaving the girl alone with something so fragile and in need of special care.

She carried the squalling infant into her room and sat her in the playpen that had already been set up for her arrival. Mira would be spending quite a bit of time in there so she might as well get used to the area.

Keeping an eye on her daughter Umbra sat down at her desk and began searching for pictures of eggs on the net. She had a fairly good idea if the eggs size and colour so it shouldn't bee too hard to figure out what Avalon was.

Several sites later she grinned and looked down at Mira who was contentedly sucking a thumb. " Looks like our little Avalon is your swan prince my little princess." With this information Umbra knew she had much to do but at least now she could properly prepare herself for the future.

Dear Diary:

Somehow I'd forgotten how truly crazy it is having children, well not children but babies. Mira despite being your typical quite baby that sleeps all the time still mages to be a quite the stress inducing one. She's a fussy eater, I've gone through four different formula's trying to find one that doesnt make her sick or that she simply throws up becuase she dislikes it ( obvious by the look on her face) on top of this she insists I have Avalon's egg by her at all times meaning she can never be left along since that means I have an egg in a small incubator in her crib with her and I don't want to take any chances.

Avalon is fortunately not that much trouble, after all an egg requires only a little heat and gentle handling. There was a few minutes of stress while I looked up types of animals eggs in order to determine his species and needs but it was nothing too bad.

All in all it's exciting being mother to such a young child again but the rewards come with prices.

~a very tired Umbra.

Dear Diary:

Well Neph's little wand thinger became a babyghost the other day. Mira when awake seems somewhat less than pleased by this new attention grabber. Nevertheless she's still a mostly happy baby who spends her time like most babies, eating and sleeping.

Avalon is still an egg and Mira is still highly attached to him, gods but I hope he hatches soon for her sake. Of course then I'll have a baby swan toddling about and I'm sure that will be rather frustrating but I can deal. Besides I'm curious to see what he will look like if he'll have any strange or mysterious markings on him.

~ an always busy and currently curious Umbra.

Dear Diary:

No more children, ever again this is it I have had enough.

In other words sibling rivalry is the word at the house for the moment and it's not a pleasant word either. There's two children, one teenager and two wispy baby things all fighting for the right to be the one getting the spot light.

Well ok I lie Mira's not trying all that hard she's just too sweet not to notice when she'd awake. That and the fact that she's a somewhat fussy baby becuase she can't be with Avalon's egg all the time.

Still I stand by my words Mira is the last child I'm taking in for any reason.

Umbra

P.S I'm taking mira for her first Doctors appointment tommorow , I wonder how that will turn out.

Umbra looked down at her daughter amusement. It was October and that meant it was time for halloween costume finding. Mira's costume had been far easier to pick out than her other children's thus far. In honour of her yet unborn key mira would be dressed as a swan.

Sitting on the couch in said costume Mira was the ultimate picture of innocence and cuteness. The whites of the feathery costume meshed with with silvery blue tipped hair. Her baby blue eyes looked up at Umbra who could see that they were filled with pleasure. Apparently Mira found her costume just as appealing as her guardian did.

Dear diary:

I picked out Mira's Halloween costume today it's a beautifull swan one. She was pretty amused by how some of the feathers on it tickled her face and I think she's going to enjoy wearing it for Trick or treating. Of course she'll only be out for a half hour or so I don't really want to keep her out in the cold too long and she dislikes being seperated from her dear egg. I think afterwards I'll have her help me hand out candy whiel she eats her loot.

Umbra stared at her kitchen floor with a mixture of amusement and frustration. On the one hand all her children were working togeather to make art. On the other hand paint was leaking every where and she'd be doing a heck of a lot of mopping to get it up before it stained the tiles.

Still amusement and now pride was winning ad she watched Tybalt carefuly take Mira's The yellow imprint was small and dainty and oh so cute to Umbra who matneral instiancts were going into overdrive. The paint according to the container she could see was non toxic and water soluable so this wasn't really to bad and they were all enjoying it.

Mira laughed each time her hands squished into paint or paper and she never once looked back to check on Avalon's egg. It was a good thing Umbra supposed that she could be distracted from the yet unhatched swan. It was also good to see her active and sociable since she was normally a reclusive and constantly sleeping baby.

A shared nod and wink between her and the teen Tybalt assured that everything would be cleaned up when they were done. Pleased she turned and left the kitching wondering if there'd be any space left of the fridge for important notes when their artwork was finished being displayed there.

Death in the family

Dear diary

They found Neph's body or what was left of it in an alley the other night. She was out christmas shopping for us, for our family. I have no clue what to do anymore and all i can do is try to stay strong for the kids because gods know they need something stable to hold onto right now. Hell so do I and I'm thankful Trinket and Dare are grown and able to help me with thigns when I break down and can't finish dishes.

At least the littlest ones, Soren and Mira will have the least memories of Neph and thus miss her less. I think, I hope so anyways.

Umbra had seen many a strange thing in her life but none so strange as an egg wearing a bow. It wasn't a new sight, Mira had in her baby way picked out a long silk sash at christmas and Umbra had tied it into a bow around Avalon's egg before returning it to the incubator. Still nothing topped the sight of it/

Now months later the egg and bow were still fine and common household occurance. Umbra had come to the conclusion that being incubated or not didn't matter with a magical egg so while it was still kept in the incubator most of the time Mira was allowed to snuggle her parter at night since she was so small and never shifted in her sleep.

It was nice watching her be so innocent and calm, though the house had calmed down and adjusted to a new life since Neph's death Umbra still missed her. Many of her children had grown and moved out and it felt good to surround herself with the young who still depended on her. It felt good to be usefull.

At the moment her use was in providing a a living jungle gym for Soren to climb on while Mira watched silently from her playpen. Blue eyes tracking her brothers motions but never giving any verbal clue that she was paying attention to him.

This too was normal. The doctors said nothing was wrong with Mira, she saw and heard perfectly fine and she could use her voice like any baby if she wanted. She was just innately quiet.

A rambunctious child, a quiet child, a strange being of dubious origins, a neon puppy, a fairy and an egg with a purple bow. Umbra had seen many strange things in her life and most of them revolved around her rather strange family.
