((Er... I don't remember saying I'll be Rodolphus, but I will if Kat allows it. I mean, we're allowed up to three characters, right?))

((Okay, I cannot keep these people straight at all. Er... in the non-sexual-orientation sense of the word. As in, I can't keep track of who's who. Uh... yeah. ANYWAYS!

Can one of you give me a handy-dandy list of name (first and last) and what year they're in for the purpose of the roleplay? Thanks much.))

Following silently behind Regulus, his partner in crime, the younger Lestrange brother pursed his lips together tightly to show his great dislike for the situation. He had never really been a big fan of that gormless Whitby fellow, and when the stupid p***k had moved to hurt Regulus, Rabastan didn't hesitate to end the little disagreement with a punch to the Hufflepuff's jaw. The plump child had fallen to the ground like a tonne of bricks to Rabastan's amusement. Unfortunately, the bloody professor had taken notice to the absense of one head in the crowd and the two Slytheirn First Years were immediately given a detention.

Always blame the Slytherins, because of course, they are always the ones that start a fight. Right.

Hearing his friends whines and moans ahead of him, Rabastan couldn't help but grin. Regulus was such a whiner. From an early age, the youngest Lestrange son had learned to deal with whatever came his way, no matter how horrible it seemed. Whining never got anyone anywhere. And, one could see the difference between the Lestrange family and the Black family. One, full of strict regulation and properities. The other, full of wailing complainers that couldn't take s**t. But, Rabastan still like Regulus. He was a strange boy, after all.

"Oh shut up." Rabastan muttered softly. "I can only take so much of your whining, Regulus. You're starting to sound like Whitby."

"Dreaming, Rosier?"

Evan span around, startled, to find himself subject to the amused gaze of one Bellatrix Black, the undisputed leader of the younger Slytherins. At thirteen, Bellatrix was already a compelling figure - her dark good looks and almost regal manner made her a natural leader of her peers.

"I see that Cousin Regulus has gotten himself into a spot of bother again," she said, indicating the group of first-years with a casual wave of her hand. "A pity. It's not like he lacks the breeding, you know - it's a matter of subtlety."

"And what would Bellatrix Black know about subtlety?" Rosier asked slyly. Bella's fierce temper and penchant for speaking her mind was well-known amongst the Slytherins (and most of the other students, too.)

Bella smiled. "Enough," she replied. "One does not necessarily have to practice in order to preach."

Rosier chose not to comment, instead turning his gaze back towards the group of increasingly disgruntled-looking first year students. "Perhaps they just need to be...advised," he suggested. "Taught the ropes by those who already know them well. As you said, it's not like they lack the breeding."

((Sorry that was so short and circular, I couldn't think of anything else to say.))

(sorry. I think Kat should post with Lucius so that Regulus and Rabastan know what they're doing.)

((Oh, God, I have no idea what to do with this...))

Lucius smirked at the whispered conversation behind him. It was always interesting to watch the power struggles that occured after the first year Slytherins were sorted. It was even vaguely amusing, Lucius and his peers occasionally had taken up bets on which eleven year old would reign over the year. It was particularily interesting this year, with such a clever group of boys.

"I don't know what you did to get yourselves here," he spoke to the boys, but did not bother to glance back at them, "and I do not particularily care. However, you would be wise to exercise a bit more caution next time. If I am forced to give up a great deal of my time this way, I will be displeased."

With that, he led them into a clearing in the Forest.

"The plant that you see is Belladonna. If you have paid any attention in Potions, you will know not to ingest it. You are to harvest it for the Potions Master."

Evan turned away from the window. "What I mean to say, Bellatrix," he said slowly, "is that, perhaps...some private instruction would be in order. I've heard the same rumours we all have - this Dark Lord fellow trying to resurrect the old pureblood society...if this is the case, we will be the best placed to benefit. But we will need numbers - young, capable and strong wizards - "

" - and witches - " Bella added.

" - and witches," Evan acknowledged. "People of good breeding, ambition and talent."

"I see," Bella said, almost to herself. "You suggest that we - "

" - take them under our wing. Teach them...the sorts of magic they might not learn in class."

"The Dark Arts." Bella said it matter-of-factly.

"Of course, of course," Evan acknowledged with a nod. "But also...skills such as an ambitious young wizard - "

" - or witch - "

" - might need in order to...shall we say...rise to their natural place in the world order." Evan looked up at Bella through long, golden lashes. "Well?"

Bella thought for a moment. "I see," she said finally. "I will speak to Narcissa. She and Lucius are - "

" - close," Evan finished. "Yes, that seems the wisest course of action."

"I will inform you of the results as soon as I can," Bella promised. "And now - I believe you have a class, Rosier?"

Evan knew a dismissal when he heard it - rather in the same way that Bella knew that, since it was five o'clock in the afternoon, classes were long finished for the day.

"Until next time, Bellatrix," Evan said, nodding brusquely and walking away.

((I know that whole scene was horribly self-indulging, but I just love writing Evan, and I couldn't help myself.))

At the sound of the older boy speaking in front of him, Regulus lifted his dark brown, almost black eyes from his shoes to stare at the back of the bleach blonde head. The way the seventh-year spoke down to them made Regulus sneer. Did this guy really think he cared if he was 'displeased' next time? But, it didn't matter. Regulus had already learned from this that he would have to be more evasive when he was insulting someone. That or at least hold Rabastan back before the first punch was swung. Rabastan was such an impulsive twit, and if it wasn't for his stupidity than he wouldn't be in detention right now. Bloody moron.

Finally reaching the clearing in the Forbidden Forest, Regulus took a glance at the pink flowers around him and internally groaned. Great, so now they were the Potions Masters' slaves? Peachy. Just-freaking-perfect. The youngest Black moved further into the clearing to start picking the flowers, glancing momentarily back at his comrade to send a resentful glare.

"I am blaming you entirely, Lestrange. You know that, right?"

When Lucius started speaking, Rabastan looked up and acknowledged his little advice with a blank expression painted on his face. As he watched the back of Malfoy's head, he could see Regulus's shoulders tense with anger and rolled his eyes visibly. Although he hated to admit it, Regulus really did have a lot in common with his older brother. They were both loud, both spoke their mind without thinking about the consequences until after it was already out in the open and they both thought they were big shots when they really weren't. Rabastan couldn't really blame them for turning out so horribly, though. He had met their mother, Walburga, once and never wanted to meet her again because she was such a freak. Poor Regulus. He didn't even have a chance to turn out as a decent human being, with that monster of a mother.

When Lucius brought them to the clearing, gave them their instructions and dismissed himself, Rabastan moved automatically to an area not far from Regulus and knelt down, immediately starting on the flowers without showing any hesitation. The youngest Lestrange paused for a brief moment when Regulus spat at him, spinning a flower stalk in his left hand.

"Well, I could've just let him punch you. And then, you'd have a detention and a broken nose. And on top of that, you'd be spending it with Whitby. So don't complain." Rabastan smiled fakely. "The less you talk, the faster this can get done and we can go inside and sleep. I don't know about you, but I don't want to spend a lot of time out here. In case you haven't paid attention in potions class, Belladonna is a poisonous flower and it just has to be replanted and put in the greenhouse, so really, we don't have a lot to do."

Rabastan shook his head and continued to pick the flower, being careful to get the roots out as well. Hopefully, Regulus would be careful enough to pick out the roots as well, or else it would be like Rabastan was doing it all by himself. Instead of fretting about it, the Lestrange boy just accepted the situation. What was he thinking? Of course Regulus wouldn't think about the roots. He was a Black, after all.

Rodolphus Lestrange walked down the halls of Hogwarts with long and leisurely strides, his index finger working on the tight green uniform tie around his neck to loosen it off just a bit. He had spent all his available time today finishing the freaking long essay that Merrythought had assigned a couple weeks ago, since he had unfortunately just remembered this morning that it was due the next day. But, nevertheless, it was done to perfection, no matter the time restriction he had to do it. After all that, all he wanted was some nice fresh air to clear his head. He could only handle the smell of parchment and ink for so long before he went nutty.

The eldest Lestrange wasn't far from the Entrance Hall when Evan Rosier strode hastily past, and seeing the older Slytherin, Rodolphus nodded curtly. Continuing on to the large doors, the fourth-year Slytherin didn't have much time to wonder what Rosier's intentions were before he saw a familiar silhouette standing in the doorway of the front doors. An eyebrow raised, Rodolphus stopped right behind Bellatrix Black and peered down at the grounds, watching three shadows enter the forest.

"What has you down here at this time of day, Bella?" Rodolphus inquired after a wonderful breath of fresh air.

((You know, I've been playing Evan as a third year, and I just realised now that he's a sixth year. Whoops! Makes Bella's rather cavalier dismissal of him look a little strange, doen'st it?))

"Lestrange," Bella said coolly, turning away from the window. "I'm merely observing the hatchlings at work."

She gestured towards the Forbidden Forest.

"You know," she said, leaning against the wall and stretching languidly, "Rosier had the most interesting idea, just then. He thinks that we should be taking the hatchlings under our wing...training them, as it were, for the place in society that they will one day occupy. I promised him I'd talk to 'Cissa about it, but I wanted to know...what do you think?"

As Bellatrix gestured out the window and towards the forest, the taller Slytherin couldn't stop his steely gaze from following. Seeing the dark shadow of the Forbidden Forest caused small, subconscious shivers to travel along his spine. Rodolphus was neither afraid or intimidated by the menacing jungle, but he knew it wasn't the kind of place that one would want to get lost in. His own father had told him that horrible devils lived inside, and Rodolphus wasn't one to question his father.

When it came to his recognition that it was a detention Bella was observing, a small smile tickled the corners of his lips. He knew that his brother was down there, serving detention with Regulus Black. Rabastan had told him about it earlier today, but it never really sunk in until now. He had been focusing on the stupid essay that he didn't even really take in the fact that his brother had punched some bratty Hufflepuff. Rodolphus couldn't help but be amused by his sibling's antics. So brash, Rabastan was sometimes. Ah well, he'd learn soon enough not to be so hasty. Revenge is something that should be taken seriously, something that should be thought about for a while so it's absolutely perfect. Rabastan lacked control.

Teaching them, as Rosier had mentioned earlier, sounded just like the thing Rabastan needed, as a matter of fact.

"It sounds like a plan." Rodolphus muttered softly. "The younger generation need people to look up to, to teach them the ways while they aren't at home. Not these... flimsey Professors. What do Professors know about place in the world, anyway? It's not like they get paid a lot, doing what they do."

Bella raised an eyebrow, obviously amused. "Oh, I don't know that all the professors are useless," she said in her low, rich voice. "Professor Slughorn seems to do well enough for himself, you know. In fact," she added, "we could probably utilise his considerable talents for persuasion and his extensive contacts in our efforts." She glanced at Rodolphus through long, dark lashes. "It's not like he'll be hard to win over," she said. "With my ancestry, Lucius' money, 'Cissa's looks, Rosier's charisma...and Slughorn knew most of our parents, too, and was great friends with a few of them."
