Yea i think she is. I mean i persoinally dont really kno, just cuz ive only read as far as 13.. for what they've released here in the U.S......... but i guess according to the people who've read the Japanese versions... which are waaayy ahead of the ones here.. she is a girl..... akward isnt it!!!!! *rawr!!!* i HATE her/him soooo much!!!!! scream scream

Water__Princess Yea i think she is. Akito's a guy in the anime,but a woman who was brought up to look,and act like a male in the manga

Akito is a Woman in the manga, a twist added almost at the last moment, In the anime he's male, even if they make a sequel Anime for Fruits basket, it is very unlikely they will reveal Akito as a woman, for it would take a long time explaining about akito, then Kerono, and they would need to add rin, which would make the series to long. so I belive they'll skip that.
Also they call Akito a He in the Anime, and he has no form what so ever, when you saw him in the uniform when Tohru meets him.

It wasn't added at the last minute. It'd been planned for some time. You could even see Akito becoming more feminine back in volume 12.
Akito being female really couldn't be missed off if they had planned on making a second series, from volume 17 onwards it had great influence over the plot.
And they call A-chan he in the manga too, and it seems she wears a tight fitting shirt under her clothes to hide her breasts.
Do we really need to keep replying to this thread now. Yes Akito is a woman. Had Takaya had more say on the anime she would've also been female. There's nothing to discuss, Akito is a woman.
