i've been tossing around the idea of getting one done in the middle of my back, something small that can be covered up for work (i will eventually be teaching high school english).
a lot of what's considered acceptable depends on what field you're going into. i can't imagine much "deviance" (in the form of body modification) being acceptable in, say, business or law, but someone working in a liberal arts field would probably have a lot more leeway.
and DEFINITELY shop around...paying a little bit more for someone to do a good job is worth it for such permanent body modifications.

Getting one on the lower back I hear is rather painful, but alot of girls that I know are planning on it there. For the simple reason of being able to hide it. The highschoolers love teachers with tattoo's they make for interesting conversations. xp At least from where I went to school at. I do plan on doing some shopping around, as my friends mentioned the same thing. Love the look you have ayamechan, the stare glasses are perfect.

I have one, a heart with open wings on the inside of my right wrist. People barely notice it unless they're looking at my hands. It took my boss 4 months to notice lol. I plan on getting more, just dont know what or where

I want to get one, I'm currenly thinking of what I want, I know I want it between my shoulder blades smack in the middle. My friend is designing one for me, the way I see I have to LOVE the design .... otherwise I'll end up hating it in a few years ... I guess once I have everything sorted out I need to find a good tattoo artist .. and have him draw it over and over again until I feel it's good enough to ink me ... rofl that sounded dirty...

I want to get the regular curve from statistics with where type 1 and 2 error occur tattooed on my lower right back. I can't figure out what else to put with it, though.
I know, I'm a nerd.

my boyfriend has 2 of them. one on each arm... the one on his left was done recently. i was with him when he got it done. it's a half angel half devil, and it's cool! the one on his right arm, is a cross, and it looks cool. not like a regular cross either... i think it's like a celtic one or somethin like that...
i want one, but i can't get tatoos because i promised my grandfather on my 18th birthday, before i went to college, no tatoos durring college... and i don't plan on breaking that promise any time soon with him...

just use common sense *anything* can be offensive/inappropriate at times - so have it where it can be covered if need be. Think very carefully about the design - it has to be something you'll always love. I want a tattoo and I know what design I want - but I wont get it for another 4 years. By then if im likly to change my mind about it - I will have done. I've already got a specific date i want to get it done on too

I have 4 tattoos, but I make sure all can be covered easily when I want. Wrist ones might be harder to cover, and they can be painful too because of the bones in your wrist. >< Employers should not mind as long as it is not visible or obvious.

Lower back is not nearly as bad as ankles, feet, and torso, where lots of girls put them also.

Most employers, especially when employing people in/just out of college will ask "Do you have any tattoos or piercings?" I can answer "yes" to which they usually ask "Are they visible?" to which my answer is "No, not if I'm wearing dress clothing." I've one on each hip and one on my upper back across my shoulder blades. You can see the one on my back if I'm wearing a white dress shirt without an undershirt and you look kind of hard. My next one is a wrist one, but, as everyone has already said, these things are coverable.
Also, ditto everyone who's said to wait and make sure you want it. I got my back one done just after my 18th birthday because I knew I'd wanted one for years. The one on my right hip I decided I wanted right after I got my back one done, but I waited another 2 years to get it done. I got my left hip done at the same time, but hadn't had that design in mind for as long.

I have 5 tattoos to date, and have a heck of alot more planned. As far as work, well..All of mine are "coverable", unless I am wearing shorts. You'd be surprised how people can react differently towards you when seeing tattoos, peircings or even hairstyle! It all depends on the person.

I agree with just about everyone else on here. I think that getting a tatoo is ok and depending on where you get it can affect your profession. I have a few tatooes but all of mine are in places where they can'y be seen unless I show them.

At the moment I'm addicted to piercings. I have seven between my ears (including cartilage and tragus) and one in my belly button. I plan to get more in my ears, but that's all I'll ever get pierced.
As far as tattooes, I don't have any, but for my 21st birthday (next year) I plan to get a tattoo either around my wrist and it'll be in Hebrew; it'll say "bondslave of the Messiah;" or I'll get one of a pink butterfly but I don't know where I'd wanna put that one yet so ... maybe I'll just go with the wrist one. confused
I just don't wanna get one I'll regret later or will think is stupid when I'm older and more mature. I figure I've been a strong Christian for twenty years; that's not likely to change. But my favorite color might not be pink forever and butterflies my favorite animal. 3nodding I also don't want a tattoo on any part of my body that'll sag or wrinkle so that it looks stupid later on. Lower back tattooes are really nice while you're young, but when you get older and everything starts hanging lowers it's gonna look pretty bad.

I'm such a pinup freak. I've always wanted a tattoo of a sexy pinup, but I'm not sure where. I'm thinking maybe the ankle region.
