Arianllyn Heh, well, I was just saying that in the end we really do agree, but that I didn't want the viewpoint of a woman being gone unsaid. You certainly don't seem naive to me, but in my experience, no matter how experienced the man there are still certain things that are impossible for them to understand. Well, unless maybe you're a OB-GYN or something. xd Regardless, yes, I suppose agreeing to disagree seems like an okay way to end this. I am soooo happy to see that there is conversation and debate on this topic. I was trying to think of something that I could get people to really talk about... Gotta liven the guild up again. Plus, I have really wanted to hear other peoples view on what happened... crying sweatdrop morbid_survivor Where abouts in the book is this section? Oh... In TAS, chapter 35: Over the Hills and Far Away, page 465 in the hard bound edition, don't know which page in the paperback... Welcome ^.^ whee 3nodding xd

Welcome ^.^ whee 3nodding xd About page 416 in my version of the paperback. Oh and there is also perhaps another time near the very end ~ on page 446ish (end of ch 37 The Dunes) where they pet each other's daemons. Or perhaps that's just me reading too much into it when PP calls them lovers.

Again, I don't believe they did, but when you mentioned the "part," that's the part I imagined everyone refered too xd Especially since having daemons is so key to sexuality.

I never considered that part. I really am glad that I brought this up! Is there anything else that anyone would like to say on this subject?

Well, I did, but Gaia ate my post *sigh*
I also think it was about intimate relationships and I think they were rather too young for that. I keep trying to make myself think it was just a kiss or something, but the parallel to the Bible is strong and provocative sweatdrop I actually like the slight twist on the Bible or rather its interpretation but the age thing bothers me.
I don't think Lyra got pregnant because in their last "meeting" there is no mention of it, though a while is meant to have passed. Still, I think he had to stretch things a bit to fit the Adam and Eve myth and I would have liked it if he made it as much an issue of knowledge as one of love.

Quote: Lyra's Oxford The story of takes place two years after the ending of The Amber Spyglass. couldn't someone just read it and find out if she was? cause i'm sure it would have some mention of the child if she was infact pregnant. I dont remember this part happening tho. then again i havent read that since 8th grade and in currently in 10th. my memory is a little bad. I'll have to borrow it from someone.... but i dont see why the producers or whoever cant just lead up and leave it just like PP did... i mean that would be the easiest way to do it. dont you agree? then again i have to wait for this guild to get busy again seeing as no one is ever here except me. >.<

I've finally decided to insert my opinion. I think they did have sex. The fact that they were so young bothered me at first but I was okay with it when it occured to me that at their age their bodies are getting ready for it and their minds were far beyond ready for it as well as their spirits. I think the reason this idea bothers people is because most people are no ready at their age emotionally. That is not to say that they weren't completely ready physically. Will and Lyra were ready and far beyond their years. About Hollywood deciding the fate of the books and this important scene, I think they would do well to cast actors who are a bit older though still teenagers. Unfortunately, I don't think Hollywood is capable of making the decision subtle. If they believe that Will and Lyra have sex, they WILL have sex. The idea of underage sex isn't as big of an issue to most people when it comes to the movies anymore. Look at the movie Thirteen. It almost seems impossible to have a love story these days that doesn't have sex in it (unless it's a period piece). That's just the way it works. I wish they could make it subtle and not go either way, but I know they won't be able to.

I think they actually did have sex, even they were only like 12 or 13 by the end of the series. Lyra was crying at the end of it, though, wasn't she? I think they will cut the 'sex scene' completely in the film, and just have them sitting under the stars holding hands and perhaps another kiss.

I thought elongated kisses were about the most that happened, but then, I am naive in that way--I never suspect anyone of having sex. stressed In the movie, it would be a good idea to leave it up to viewers, such as have them go over a hill, where we can't see them, and leave the rest up to everyone's imagination.

I always thought that they just kissed. It never even crossed my mind that they went all the way, but now I think about it, it's very possible...

I wasn't sure before, but after reading this (^) I definitely think they had sex.
I don't think they should show it in the movie though. They should handle the situation the same way as the book... not revealing too much and letting the viewer decide.

I'm not really sure either way, I need to reread the whole series because my memories of it are a bit foggy. I think they were really close by the end of it and if they knew they'd never see each other again they would have had sex. The more I think about it the more confusing it gets sweatdrop
