does Akito really gets nicer in the end? I've only read the manga not the anime.
In the anime what happened to kyo in the end?

Yes she finally becomes friends with Tohru and decides to no longer dress as a man.
Nothing happens to him, Kyo's part ends with what happens in volume 6 but it's poorly done so Tohru looks pathetic and a weakminded wimp.

If you think about it, and ignore all the bad stuff she did you see that Akito was really just a confused girl who was raised quite improperly like a very jealous and hateful mother. No mother should ever do that to her child any of it. So Akito is confused and lonely and scared that she'll lose any of the Zodiac like she did her father. She wants to be loved and surrounded.
