Yeah, but we'd have to make sure that a few of the sections don't get too much bigger than the others. What if Atomisk's "nemo organization" (my uncle's nickname is nemo . . . ) gets all the Weekly World News fans in Darkstar, and he decides to break off? We are letting him in, but I have a bad feeling. Not that I don't like the guy, he's just a bit . . . well, I don't trust him with my email, much less members of the organisation.

that's where the limits come in, you'd have to have some way of balancing out each section of the org. so none of them appear more important/powerful then the other. Maybe have some form of entrance criteria for realy popular departments?

Oh, I see. I thought you meant advertising THIS guild to another. And that's our current goal.

maybe you'd get minus points for that? Wouldn't wan't to be the one who has to keep track of all the points though eek , so maybe 10 points is a little high? how about 5.

@Defunct : you proposal mod. is going to require quite a lot of components and they're all going to have to work pretty closely together, hell, Ladyfriend's was probably going to also...This might not be as efficient as we'd like. maybe a trial run is in order.

Re: Free recruits : maybe as well as linking a newbie to the person who recruited them, we link the recruit to the "thread"/"department" they seem most interested in (provided, of course, if there hasn't been some limit reached on that section), this way, those without a parent member will get one (one of the heads, probably)

[/end mindless ravings]

Now we're getting at what I wanted to originally discuss, departments. I actually have a rather long winded proposal for assigning both a chief executive and a congress of sorts (bi-partisan but a bit different from the US congress a lot of our members may be familiar with since it keeps in mind departments) to Darkstar but more on that later.

First off, it wouldn't be terribly difficult to maintain the points system. Simply create a forum to keep track of it, then assign points as thread leaders report them (a link to the violation would be required). The mod who gets the message can verify and update the points as necessary. In fact we could just use a complaint board instead, making sure one mod isn't bogged down with requests.

As for keeping track of thread leaders, they wouldn't even need to be kept track of on a central board. I they'd just add a little message at the bottom of the first post declaring who the thread leader was then that would be sufficient.

Small penalties would need to be put in place for various things to keep order but the system should be relatively simple to maintain.

Anyways, back to recruits, if we're going to have departments, what's the point of making recruiters responsible for their recruits?

*edit: I notice I didn't upload my leader/congress proposal thing, I'm still picking out the bugs, I'll get it up tomorrow, er later today (I guess 3:00am is technically tomorrow already, eh)

I agree it seems both easiest and effective but first I'd like to know how we'd determine whose recruits are whose though. I can understand if you get a few friends to join but what about random advertising? Assuming someone goes off a random sig or even the forums (are those still active?) they're not exactly anyone's recruit then. We'll need something for that.
All new recruits that joined through such advertising would, initially, belong to everyone. That is, all of our members who are expected to look after recruits have to help these people as well. They can then join a single person's group of recruits on request. This can easily be organised by having a thread where all people who have shown interest in being a member, and have been active in the guild, are put on a list. These will be the recruits that belong to everyone. There is then a post for each person who can be/is responsible for recruits. This contains a list their recruits. We have one person who has to update the main list, and the individual "recruiters" update their post/list.

Also, building on her idea, I'd like to suggest, instead of assigning a set amount of mods to the various topics, we just say every thread creator starts as the initial mod of that thread (they can message crew if they need something edited or removed, ex: spam). We'll say if they already have too many threads then they can pass the responsibility to someone else (assuming they're willing of course) and also have a similar transfer process if a thread leader doesn't post for a few weeks. With the original system we'd most likely end up with problems like; "Who does this thread belong to?" (we all know there will be a few ambiguous ones) as well as the occasional, "Oh crap we don't have a mod for something like that". It has the potential to get a bit messy.

Also, building further on the thread leader thing, the crew would then be responsible for editing the forums when the thread leaders ask, as well as investigating normal user complaints of when a thread leader isn't doing their job.
I considered something like this, but I dismissed it because it adds an unnecessary level of complication. All of the mods should be reading most of the threads in this guild anyway, and it's not exactly difficult to make a post in a thread saying "this topic belongs here", copying and pasting a few quotes to the correct topic, then deleting a few bits from a thread. Mods can even tell each other about stuff they may have missed. If you have the person who made the first topic being responsible for PMing mods we end up having people of questionable responsibility trying to organise it. In the system where a topic belongs to a mod, it will be that mod that has the first post for thread anyway. This way it is more obvious which topics is being looked after by who.

Also, if there is some ambiguous topic that seems to fall between two others, the mods can decided between themselves who takes it in their topic, or a new topic can be made. If we don't have a mod for something, the topic is given to a mod. We would have to keep track of how many threads a mod has, and mow much time we can dedicate to running threads. That shouldn't be too difficult if we discuss it though....possibley on that IRC channel (that I'll make, and make a "how to" topic for if people want it).

But would you ban me for posting three times in cyan or yellow?
That just meant as a joke. I'm sorry if it seemed like a threat of banning for posting those colours. I just find it painful to read.

I propose a system sort of like the Catholic church's system. Not that I know EVERYTHING about it, but since the Pope's death there has been alot of discussion about it. Flip would be on par with the Pope, and then she would appoint "Cardinals". Then - not sure if this part is actually part of the order - the "Cardinals" would organize themselves into interest groups (for lack of a better term) that would be specialized in areas (PR, Finance, whatnot.) Then the Cardinals would elect a new leader at the passing of the old one.

It's late so that was terribly written, but I think I got my point across.

I kind of like that way of organization. One thing I really want/need to know about is our morals. None of us ever expect to become corrupt, but power does some crazy things. How would we keep that in check? We don't want to end up like the politicians today.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 17, 2005 10:22 pm

I like that system, myserlf. But to keep our morals in check . . . may I suggest something like the "How's my driving" bumper sticker? people call in, and complain, we ACTUALLY listen. The people should know, as long as we do a good job of encouraging free thinking.

So, your plan is to mix all the branches of government together? I like the way it's organized, it's somewhat like what I had in mind.

I also like Zorya's idea with the call-in. Makes us seem more open, and people won't need to protest as much to get their point across. Maybe we could have a whole department dealing with complaints?

Yeah, not to mention a whole complaint office will increase the number of jobs. We seriously need a government for the government though. Make sure no one's complaints are put ahead of others because they're by a celebrity and such.

Make it some way so that it's anonymous.

Good Idea. Anonymity is always good. Anonymity . . . is that even a word? Then again, I had to correct my English teacher. BUT HE SAID PRESERVEDNESS! It was perseverance! What do they teach in those expensive schools? I swear, we need to have teachers who actually KNOW what they are talking about.

It's a word. So, we so far have really only decided on a PR department and a complaint department.

im only new here and as such i dont expect my opinion to be glorified as it would in my own halls. but i recommend that somewhat of a joint leader ship program is evloved. i believe that commutative leadership with a head member always prevails. my own guild (signature) is an excellent example of this. we have brought several guilds under our own. this is only a recomendation of course. but please consider what i am suggesting

Personally I believe the ideal leadership is ultimately a charismatic figurehead to lead the masses, whose decisions in large part are made by a council (a sort of think-tank) of the best suited to make such decisions.

Though I like the idea of a joint leadership between guilds. Each leader given domain over their own guild so as not to confuse the ranks. Yet the decisions of each leader stem from the consensus of all allied guild leaders.
