Harold Windsor kept his eyes locked on her hands for the entire exchange. There was something decidedly dangerous about a student who would use magic without proper training on a normal human and then be so defensive even in the presence of someone he hoped she would eventually respect, her classmate. His blue eyes locked with her pale grey and he spoke gently, "You needn't act so defensive. No one is here to hurt you, and I expect you to show us the same courtesy." He paused momentarily, his jovial expression becoming quite serious for a moment. Although he was relatively short in stature, it more than likely seemed that he had grown to over six feet tall in these moments.
There was something unique about Harold Windsor in that respect. He was a very kind hearted man, but he valued the safety and happiness of his students above all. He did not like using his magic uneccessarily, but when he showed minute traces of his power, the kind hearted man seemed more like a highly destructive mage. Half a century of instruction and experience must have an effect on a person.
Almost as quickly as his serious nature appeared, it evaporated. He gestured up the walkway and turned, nodding at Alauniira. He hoped that the two new students would speak as he walked ahead, a bit absorbed in his thoughts. He kept his senses keenly focused on Col and her unusually violent nature as he headed down the path.

It didn't take an empath to see how defensive the new "Artois" girl was being as she stepped forth from the shadows, hand on her dagger as if she had something to fear, but at that point, Alauniira could care less. She wasn't afraid of a human with a knife. There were far scarier things in the world than that, and Niira felt fairly sure that the girl wouldn't try anything here.
And if she did, then she was an utter fool. Headmaster Windsor would restrain her, and Alauniira herself would be a mile away before they would even realize that she had left. What good did it do to act with hostility here? Windsor Academy was not impossible to escape from so it was clear that this Artois person had to have some kind of need from the school, just like Alauniira did.
Regardless of personalities, all the students were here for the same reason. Alauniira wanted a place to hone her abilities so that she wouldn't have to always be so deceptive and escapist. She wanted to be able to be a proud half-drow, but in order to do that, she had to guard all her bases. Raising an eyebrow at "Miss Artois" as the Headmaster had called her, Alauniira spoke calmly, hoping that the girl would knock it off already, "That means you can take your hand off your dagger now, you know."
Niira had learned that being openly defensive didn't benefit anyone. The trick was to conceal it. That way, if someone did decide to strike, they would never know that Niira was all ready for them, giving her the upper hand.
Following behind the Headmaster, the half-drow cast a sidelong glance to Miss Artois, contemplating whether or not she should say anything. Deciding that she might as well introduce herself, Niira dropped her voice a little lower, not necessarily wanting the Headmaster to hear that she was talking nicely to the new girl. She abhorred the feeling that someone was listening in on her. "I'm Niira," she said at last, treading effortlessly through the underbrush and turning her head to face her new classmate.

(I got the okay to post. ^^)
A low branch slipped into Alauniira's path as she continued to follow behind Headmaster Windsor up the hill to the school. A nonchalant arm brushed it aside, and keen purple eyes glanced back to the shorter girl who stood beside her. "Hey Col," she remarked casually to the introduction, having already forgotten the human's defensive stance from moments before.
It was not in Alauniira's nature to harp on trivial matters, and she was quite willing to forgive a misunderstanding. Pointed attacks and repeat offenders, however, would be met with a permanent grudge.
"I'm not worried about it so you shouldn't either," she quipped, brushing off Col's apology as something extraneous. Alauniira might not have had the breeding to know what "enmity" was, but she got the jist of what Coltrane was trying to get across. "Deep rooted habits are a pain in the a** to get rid of... I suppose that's what this academy is for though."
Niira nodded her head in a final way, wondering quietly if the Headmaster had heard her curse. She had tried to keep it quiet, but as Col had said, deep rooted habits were hard to kill.

How easily Alauniira forgave Col's hostility surprised the woman. Forgiveness was still a confusing concept for her. It was not a trait encountered frequently in her previous line of work. Experience however schooled Col into neither showing nor pressing the matter.
"Yes," Coltrane responded, more to her self than to the girl beside her, "I expect that is why this place is here." As the girl finished these words, she trailed off; her expression become thoughtful as she mulled over the idea in her head.
She knew very little about the school, mainly because she had been busy formulating an escape plan and her father's untimely death to really question anything when it had been decided to send her packing to Windsor. Besides, she had assumed that her new home was little more than an institution for the mentally ill, with staff skilled in brainwashing their victims until they forgot that they had ever possessed any abnormal powers.
But as no one had yet to lock her in a small room and deprive her of human contact, Coltrane began to suspect differently.
By this point, her manipulation of the current wind pattern had died with the lack of attentiveness. As such, the surrounding trees had come to a complete standstill, which Col was rather sure that she liked no better than when they were bending under the wind.
With a quick scan of the horizon, she saw no hint of the school in sight.
"Are we almost there?" Col asked, her voice rose so that the headmaster in front of her might hear her inquiry.

Harold Windsor heard the mostly quiet chatter of the two new students behind him, but his thoughts strayed to other matters. It seemed that Alauniira was quite adept at concealing her appearance, something he did truly admire in a student so young. He hoped a time would come when her ruse would no longer be necessary.
It pained him greatly that the reason his father escaped the human world was to run from persecution and provide a place for those that humans feared to coexist and yet here, this poor half-drow was still met with hostility. It seemed that human custom had stayed with them even longer than he had anticipated. As his thoughts began to fade away, he heard Col's voice penetrate his subconscious as they came upon the small lake at the school.
"Why yes, Ms. Artois," His voice was reserved but strong as it hit the dying wind. He pointed calmly with his left hand, gesturing to the Gothic spires pointing up toward the sky as they became visible upon the horizon. He imagined that the school was a bit imposing to new students, but he hoped that they would find it to be a second home to them. He knew that Professor Hammerforge was planning on holding class rather soon, so he hoped they were ready. "If either of you are planning on taking elemental magic, you might have a class waiting for you in just a bit. I hope you came prepared!" he finished with a short laugh as they reached the top of the hill and headed along the straight path toward the center of the school. He quickly explained the procedure for entering the dorm and gave the girls their rooming assignments so that they could get situated as soon as possible.

Nodding at Col's statement, Alauniira continued to move effortlessly behind Headmaster Windsor, sidestepping every root and uneven patch of dirt and grass that crossed her path. That was, until they stepped on to the grounds, leaving the safety and cover of the dark forest behind for a wide open span of trimmed grass that appeared to signal the start of the campus.
She hesitated for a moment, covering her reservations by staring curiously at the lake and then up at the castle. The tall spires were unappealing to her-- Alauniira preferred the treetop houses of certain elves and the underground mansions of the drow-- but the half-drow refused to remain frozen in awe for more than a few moments.
So, gathering up her traveling cloak, Alauniira trudged forward, now finding walking to be far more difficult and uncomfortable. She seemed to misstep several times and walked with much heavier footfalls. In the midst of her concentration, the strong, subtle voice of the Headmaster Windsor floated into her ears, grabbing her attention.
A class? Already? Well, the elf had wanted to set her things inside her room and settle in, but learning was the reason she came here to Windsor Academy. Besides, it might be a nice icebreaker that could force her to interact with other creatures. That was a good thing... right?
The knapsack on her back shifted awkwardly with each step that Alauniira took. It was small, modest, as the elf had always been a light packer. What use did she have for items that would only slow her down? Besides, she had gotten the bag enchanted at a druid city so it held a bit more than it appeared to anyways.
"Elemental magic? Not much I need to prepare for that," she remarked offhandedly, staring down at her hands for a moment. Having made short work of the campus leading to the castle, Alauniira was pleased to receive her housing assignment, comfortable with the fact that she could stash her possessions in her room before class.
Turning to Coltrane, she folded the paper in her fingers and asked, "Where did they put you?" she asked, reading the words G-9-A one more time on her own sheet.

The woods were peaceful, with only the slight rustling of the leaves. A twig broke the silence as Jaycee pushed his way through the verdant underbrush. His large brown eyes searched the uninviting forest as he clutched his admission letter tightly in his hand.
Inside the letter were directions how to find the path, but Jaycee was having no luck. The forest's embrace was not one he relished, but he continued to push through the low bushes, his mud spattered boots crushing leaves and breaking small sticks. "I'm making enough noise to wake the dead" He thought as a small branch snapped snapped from his passing. "If so, maybe they have a gaurd that could help me find this place".
An uplifted root caught his boot, nearly sending him sprawling. He caught his balance and sighed, taking off his heavy pack and setting it down. Taking out the acceptance letter, he read it once more. After carefully folding it and putting it away he surveyed the forest around him. His large brown eyes slipped over the thick foliage around him as he absently reached to brush the hair from his face.
His hand paused midway. "Wait, is that the path...?" Hand dropping to his side, he blinked. It was indeed a rough path, identical to the one described in his letter. Standing, he hauled the pack back up and headed up the excuse for a road. "I have classes starting today" He mused as his quick steps carried him towards the school. I hope they haven't started yet. But they'll be over by the time I get there, knowing my luck.... With that thought he pulled the knapsack higher on his shoulders and stepped up his pace.
As the speed of his gait increased, thoughts and questions also echoed through his mind with increased speed. I wonder how many students they have... Where will my classes be? I hope my roomate isn't too noisy... Can I really even do magic? What wou-. He tripped as an upturned stone clipped his foot. Mentally berating himself for letting his thoughts get ahead of him, he emptied his mind and focused on traveling the path before him as quickly as possible.

The tall spires of the Windsor stared down on Jaycee, meeting his gaze as he stopped at the edge of the forest. His large brown eyes swept over the towers of the Academy absently as inside he debated with himself. "I don't want to miss my elemental magic class... Checking in and changing would make me too late for it... But if I went like this..." He broke off as he looked down at himself. His boots were brown from the muddy roads, and his loose black traveling pants were slightly torn from his jaunt down the rough path.
A small gathering of people across the lake caught his attention, and he turned towards them curiously. "I wonder if that's one of my classes?". His eyes narrowed slightly "Oh well. If that is one of my classes, I'll join in. If not, I'll get directions for my room...". Tossing the hair out of his eyes, he hefted his pack and set off across the grounds.
As he made his way across the training field, his eyes darkened slightly. He was fulfilling his best friend's last wishes even now, but he didn't feel any different. Fulfillment or dissapointment, he had expected some sort of emotion. All he felt was a slight curiousity about what lay ahead. As he came closer to the small gathering, he shrugged off the thoughts and his eyes cleared. His musings could wait, he straightened slightly and continued striding towards the little group of people.

Sano swiftly made his way through the trees, searching for the magical path that would bring him to Windsor Academy, he power-walked for 30 minutes, ever steping over fallen trees, and leaping over gigantic rocks. Finally after he thought the path had been moving away from him, he found it. He glared around him, feeling eyes upon him ever more so than in the forest. He turned ahead, and began to casualy walked towards the academy. He wondered, as had happened last year, if the Guardians would test him. Last year he barely survived. As he walked, the trees seemed to loom in, threatening him, attempting to make him turn back. He dismissed them and continued on.
Sano felt excitment and anitcipation welling up inside him as he walked on. He almost smiled at the thought of returning to the old magical building. He hoped that his friends would forgive him for last year, they had all told him they hated him and to never come near them again. He sighed and shifted his pack into a more comfortable position, and continued walking.
Windsor Academy loomed in front of him, he began to run, the trees suddenly fell back and the familiar grounds of the academy opened up all around him. He looked around for a moment then walked towards the dormatories.

Hanille trudged through the forest, her once sleek black boots coated in mud, "Windsor Academy..."
Indeed. Windsor Academy; a place for the gifted. She continued to make her way through the forest, inching closer and closer every moment. No doubt, Hanille was extremely nervous about this. She had never been around many people, much less people like her. What was she going to do?
"Maybe it won't be as terrible as I believe..."
Not as bad as she believed? Perhaps. What was it that made her fear this place so much? Why was she not looking forward to attending Windsor Academy? Her social skills.
"I'm going to look as though I'm a fool in this place..."
Hanille brushed her pale blonde bangs out of her eyes, and continued to trudge, making sure to avoid the many obstacles in her way. She pushed aside some branches that were obscuring her view. There 'twas...Windsor Academy.
She took a breath, and moved a step forward. Hanille was quite shocked when she felt her foot catch something, and found herself nearly falling into the mud. Luckily, her hands saved her face from that fate. She felt the supplies in her back pack rumble about.
"Ugh!"
She stood up and stared at her palms, glazed in mud, "Why..."
Her robe was getting dirtier every second, and all she wanted to do was get inside the cursed castle. Once she had gathered her bearings, she carefully made her way towards the building, mumbling to herself as she walked.
"I don't even have all of the supplies required for this place...I'm sure to fail..."
Now the great, gothic castle was getting quite large.
"Keep telling yourself that Hanille...and you will fail..."
She whipped her back pack off of her, wiped her hands on its surface, swung it back over her shoulders, and continued onward. There was no turning back now. Yet, would she be safe here at Windsor? What if her fellow students despised her? What if they tried to kill her? Hanille attempted to push these thoughts out of her head as she grew even closer to the castle.
"It's alright Hanille...you'll make friends here..."
Now she looked about her to see if there was somebody who could give her directions.

Now, inside the castle, Hanille's heart, once throbbing, had settled a bit, and she felt a calming sensation sweep over her body. Still, she wasn't sure where she was going, or how to find her first class, Herbology. Windsor was amazing. Never in her life had Hanille seen anything this grand, this complex. Then again, a church was nothing compared to a building like this.
She continued wandering aimlessly through the building, the end of her mud stained, slightly torn black robe trailing behind her. The architecture of the building was very pretty.
"Maybe this won't be so bad..."
Indeed. Surely there would be people here to help her, right? Hanille shook her head, and shifted her pack, "I don't know how I'm going to last here..."
There was a sign on the wall that caught her attention. She stopped to take a look at it, "Headmaster's Quarters".
"Perfect! If anybody knows something about this school, it's definitely the person in charge...I hope..."
With that, she began to make her way towards where the sign had directed, hoping that she would have the answers to her questions soon, before she was late.

Harold Windsor had just stepped out of his office when a sharp tinge of guilt hit him. He had received word from a monastery that a young girl who had only just discovered her abilities was on the way there. Considering she had been cloistered away for so long, Harold had hoped to meet her on the pathway and guide her up before she ran into any of the students in case it caused her uneccessary stress. Plus, being new, she more than likely had no idea where any of her classes were, and if the choices sent back to him were correct, she had class in about five minutes.
He practically ran down the stairs toward the main lobby area of Windsor Castle when he saw a tall blonde girl with surprisingly colored eyes. The small flickers of almost pink within her smoky irises seemed very peculiar to him, but he let his visual representation of her fade as he grabbed her by the arm and walk back outside.
"Sorry to rush you like this, Hanile, correct?" his speech was quick and nervous, something that most of the students would come to understand. "I believe that you're enrolled in a class starting in about five minutes, and I would hate for you to have a bad first impression on Ms. Kaeline." They walked a short distance across the front of the building toward the Victoria A. Linvea Building. "I believe what you're looking for is there." He gestured toward a nearby building and smiled, "That is the Marina dormitory. To enter it, simply speak your name to the main door. It will open, I assure you." He gave her a soft smile, his heart and his demeanor finally slowing down a bit. "Once again, I'm terribly sorry to rush you... and welcome to Windsor Academy."
((Sorry to do that, but we're in the OUTSIDE subforum, so I didn't want us to dawdle inside the building since we'd be in the wrong forum))

Hanille was a little shocked by the promptness the headmaster had shown. She desperately wanted to say something, but was too afraid she would sound like an idiot; something she didn't desire. Still, she smiled, and did manage to muster up a few words, "Th...thank you...um, headmaster Windsor."
"Great Hanille...you've made a down right fool of yourself!"
Her eyes shifted, moving to stare towards the ground. Already, she felt she had embarassed herself. Not only that, but she was sure to be late! Hanille mentally punished herself as she walked towards the entrance of the Marina dormitory, wishing now that she had not been granted the gifts she held.
