I do prefer closed spaces- I get very nervous in extremely large rooms. But that's because extremely large ANYTHING freaks me out. Whales, giant squid, elephants, outer space, the ocean, enormous buildings (not just like, tall, tall and wide. like stadiums, if i had to stand right next to one.) etc. The ocean and sea creatures go double, because the ocean itself just freaks me out. I can stand and look at it, sure, but I'll be damned if you could ever get me on a cruise ship. I'm terrified of not being on land. And, I'm terrified of being underground. I can do basements but the mere thought of caves EXISTING gives me the heebiejeebies. D:

Other than that I just get very nervous around practical things. Fire, knives, like a lot of people have mentioned. I just always envision one of those accidents no one excepts to happen, happening, y'know? And I'm very much afraid of simple but unpleasant problems like a flat tire, running out of gas, or otherwise being stranded in the middle of nowhere- particularly without a cellphone. crying ; ahhhhhhhh D:

aaaand lastly.
I hate fireworks.
I HATE them.
I have a lazy eye, which means I have no depth perception. So unless I'm like, watching the fireworks over trees or something, so I have a visual cue that they're far away.. it looks like they are RIGHT over my head and going to fall on me and burn me to bits. crying ;

Aah! One more thing; getting trapped in a sinking car.. I'd probably just freak out, because that's one of the very few things I've had nightmares about.

I can handle heights better now than when I was younger, but they still freak me out.

As for the whole open/enclosed space...I'd take either, really. If I'd been watching a scary movie or had another reason to be afraid, I'd probably feel a bit safer in an enclosed space, but I like wide open plains and shtuff where you can just see for miles and miles. 'Specially at night when there's tons of stars. Stargazing = awesome.

Ladybugs scare me. As do spiders. I will CRY if there's a spider bigger than my pinky fingernail anywhere near my bed, and if there's anyone else awake I'll make them kill it. If not...it seriously takes me about an hour to work up the courage to go smash it.
I KNOW I'm like fifty zillion times bigger than it. I KNOW it's probably just as afraid of me as I am of it, or whatever crap people say.
BUT IT DOESN'T LOOK VERY SCARED TO ME.

My biggest fear is being alone. Not entirely alone, although that freaks me out too - just being by myself in a crowd of people and not knowing anyone at all. I think that's why I disliked the city so much...I'm so used to recognizing pretty much everyone I see when I'm walking around town, and I don't think I'd be able to do that in a big city.
...I mean, I know that's going to be rare outside of little towns like this, but still. I need at least one person around that I know.

And, for the record, The Shining is one of the scariest novels EVER. IT as well. Despite that, I read Stephen King with a passion xd

The Stand was terrific, but didn't really scare me...

I think I was too young when I watched The Sixth Sense* for the first time, because since then I've been scared of open spaces near my ankles, like beds that don't reach the ground, or those staircases with no stair backs. Of course, this only applies in the dark.

*remember, dead girl's bedroom scene? how she lets the boy know she's there? GRABS HIS ANKLES HOLY CRAP

i am scared of navel oranges, because the "navel" part of it is an abomination. look at that goddamn thing. how can that not make your skin crawl right around your house? uuurrrghhhh grossitating.

i am also scared of mold. not just scared of eating it, but way more scared of TOUCHING it. i even feel uncomfortable touching containers with mold in them. i don't know if this stems from a fear of food poisoning or what, and yes i'm scared of that, but that makes sense since i have had more than one long and horrible bout of food-based illness.

and i used to be way more scared of windows in the dark. you know, like when you're inside, and you look out the window, and it's all black out there? i was sure someone's head would appear in it - a horrible face. i'm getting over that, but they still make me uncomfortable and i don't love to look at them, especially when i'm alone.

I prefer to live by myself, but I can easily scare myself. It wasn't so bad when i was just in a dorm room alone, but for the summer i'm in a 4 bedroom apartment, so I sleep with two of the living room/kitchen lights on and shut and lock my door. I prefer to sleep with my back to the wall if I'm not comfortable in my surroundings. Last summer I would sleep with a fan and I could have sworn the thing sounded like it was moving towards me.

I used to be quite afraid of coming down with something, but then my friend REALLY was diagnosed with cancer and that sort of snapped me out of the whole self focused "I'm dying" thing.

I dunno. I'm always more jittery after reading Snopes. Something about reading the crazy things that people come up with that I know aren't true just serve to freak me out even more.

Like Xen, even the really lame horror movies creep me out. I think the psychological horror movies are the worst, though. Like Silence of the Lambs and The Shining. And ho'crap, It was ******** messed up scary.

And I'm convinced that there's a ghost in my parents' room. Sometimes she looks nice and peaceful, but after I watch a scary movie or something, she looks meaner than hell. It scares the s**t out of me.

I also have to be able to hear everything that's going on around me. Whenever I listen to music, I do it in my room with the door locked so no one can sneak up on me. I forgot to lock my door once while I was cleaning my room, and Mother came up behind me, and when I turned around I screamed bloody murder. Dad ran up the stairs to see what was wrong. sweatdrop

I'm deathly afraid of water. I'm not a strong swimmer at all. I enjoy swimming sometimes (except that I hate bathing suits with a fiery passion), but I've almost drowned too many times to like it that much. Especially in the ocean. When I was in France last summer, a few of my friends and I went down to the beach at night and were messing around in the surf. In came the night undercurrents, and I was almost swept out to sea. That was the most terrifying thing ever.

I inherited a fear of leaving the washing machine or dryer running while no one is home from my mother. She was always deathly afraid of something catching on fire and burning the house down. So now I'm afraid of anything happening to the house while we're gone. Not so much the destruction of the house but something happening to the animals inside. That really scares me.

I'm not really scared of bugs or anything like that. I actually scoop bugs up if I find them inside and take them outside.

Wolffy, the easter bunny picture and the picture of the glowy-eyed guy are going to give me nightmares for a week. Thanks a lot.

The hanged Ronald McDonald just made me laugh. xp

Bloody Mary. Or well, mirrors in the dark. Its stupid and cliche, but I'm afraid my reflection will do something I'm not and I won't be able to see it and.. yeah.

I'm afraid of not being able to move, and drowing/suffocating. Just that feeling of fear and pressure and anxiety building up in your limbs is just ahhhhhhh.

I love high diving boards. It takes me about 5 minutes to be able to jump off one, but once I've done it once, I'm there all the wayyy biggrin

Okay, the Ronald McDonald one was funny.

But the others were a tad bit freaky. The last one moreso than the others.
And I totally thought they were going to be ladybugs and I was going to kill you.

go-go chee: I know what you mean about mirrors. gonk Every so often I start thinking about how strange it'd be to look in a mirror and see someone behind me, or not see my own reflection, or something lkike that...and then I can't look in a mirror for forever.

Well in that case this totally isn't a picture of a big handful od ladybugs that I've already shown you.

I can read horror novels to no prevail, I do have an avid imagination but I can always block it out. I can't watch horror movies though.

What scares me? Spiders, dark, MIRRORS, eyes...they just...-shudders-. Stairs, my basement (in which I live). Clowns, heights, open spaces, closed spaces. And spirits. Talking of ghosts and poltergeists makes me hyperventilate.
