I got into J-rock around the time when i was watching my first anime which was...and i hate to say thing but it was DBZ.And also,the other anime i say that got me into it was Gundum wing when it was on Toonami...Wwwaaaay back then! I guess once i got into 6th grade or 5th so i was young.

I have been a anime and Video game fan for years, and a really big J-pop fan but I never got into j-rock until recently. My friend had loved Dir en Grey, and I wasn't really into it. Stupid me thought it was all the same. Some odd number of months ago I downloaded a NAruto AMV, a Haku/Zabuza one to Gackt's Doom's Day. I really liked the video, and the song went really well with it. Of course I knew who Gackt was, you can't be an anime fan for 6 years and not. But I never really listened to his music. So after a few days of watching the video I decided to give Gackt a try ((I am a Mega-obsessive Gackt fan now, and I will admit it)) Looking up GAckt picture, Got me into see Malice Mizer pictures, of course, and that's when I fell in love with Mana and one of his outfits ((Gekka No Yasoukyuko)) And I was determained to cosplay it. But I don't feel I have the right to cosplay unless I know what I am cosplaying. That was when I started lestening to Malice Mizer, and Man do I love them. I preferably like the Gatck Era, simply because I was a GAckt Solo Career first, but I love Malice Mizer all around, and each Era for it's own reason. I wish I hadn't been so subborn thinking all of J-rock was the same, it isn't and I have missed out on the Best band ((to me)) for years. -_-;;;

n.n; I prolly started hearing it first right when I was introduced to Pokemon, Sailor Moon, or Tenchi Muyo, whichever I watched first. I was in 3rd grade, or 4th. I loved meh computer back then too, and downloaded crap then just like I do now. XDDD So I downloaded their themes and I remember coming across some Japanese versions and stuff. At that second I was in love with Japanese Pop/Rock, but i didn't know and bands or anything.

in 6th grade, i met meh best buddy (she still is too XD yay) Keesha. she was obsessed with video games, and one day Kingdom Hearts came out..<__<... she got the game, and we played it and i obsessed over it's theme song. so I downloaded it, and discovered the music artist "Hikaru Utada". (oops if I got that backwards XD lmao) and after researching her, i somehow stumbled across the name Ayumi Hamasaki and some other name I can't remember.. and yeah. Japanese pop was pretty much my favorite for about a year or two. then I got some friends from a fanart site (because of a different video game i now obsess over o.O; ) and talked for a couple of months over msn.. and omg... one day, (sometime around september in my 7th grade I think, that or in my following summer break into 8th) during ... the most glorious day (XDDD; lmao..) one of my friends told me she wanted to buy a malice mizer cd but she didn't know if they'd be good.. a friend of hers gave her some songs, and she gave them to me, and yep. we researched the band like crazy, and figured out what visual kei is.

.... yeah.. pretty much that's how i was introduced to jrock/pop. >_<; *dies*

First my sister showed me pictures of Jrockers one day and I saw Malice Mizer and their different style and I looked at Mana and I said "Now that's one pretty girl." She laughed and told me that Mana wasn't a girl, just a really pretty guy.
I was AMAZED. So I thought, Jrock has guys that dress and look like girls? That's crazy. So she let me listen to them and I was like "wowww."
Then she showed me Miyavi and I thought wow, he's pretty cute.
So I listened to his music and I got addicted.
I guess it pretty much went from there.

It all started 4-5 years ago with my first love Mathew (well I can't say real first love, 'cause I only meet him in a chat room and never in person). Back then I knew him by his username "Squall", which of course turned out to be after Squall Leonhart: the hero of Final Fantasy VIII. It was then I became totally obsessed with FF8 (Which I have only played a demo of... crying ) and googled all sorts of screenshots from the game -- Mostly Squall.

Even after Mat broke up with me, I still continued looking up FF8/Squall Leonhart pics because Squall was just so damn hot(Yeah, so what if he was just a video game character?)!

Anywho, I came across a few times these wierd pictures on Google images:





At first I thought (of course) "Who is this Gackt guy?" I immediatley knew he was a guy when I saw these pics, and I thought he was kinda cute/scary -- mostly scary because of the cyberland outfit. Finally that's when I started to look up more "Gackt" pictures and I immediately fell in love (despite the scary, femmy pictures which have now grown on me as you can tell).

So for a year (maybe less) I was lusting over this pretty Japanese Pop singer (I learned later that he was more of a rocker) and never heard any of his songs until I went to his official website and watched CMs of his Moon album -- where I first heard part of "Another World" (So yes, technically that was my first Gackt/Jrock song). So long story short, I downloaded a few Gackt songs and immediately became latched-on to Jrock.

I discovered MALICE MIZER not long after reading Gackt's bios and soon fell in love with that band as well, followed by Dir en grey and so on. That was when I became familiar with "Visual Kei" and now I am totally obsessed with it. In short, my obsession with MALICE MIZER I owe all to a video game character.

Story simplified:
Final Fantasy VIII - Squall Leonhart - Gackt Camui - MALICE MIZER - Visual Kei - Jrock.
