Nathan climbed out of the chopper and instinctively ducked beneath the whirling blades. He hitched his backpack onto his shoulders, the large kind cross country backpackers take with them, and a guitar case weighed him down in each hand. He handed the acoustic case to the white haired man with a nervous smile.
"Thanks man, this place looks awesome. I've been looking forward to some R&R. What's the name of this island? It didn't say much in the pamphlet..." The young man tried to surpress his grin at the garish outfit the guy was wearing. His black on black ensemble looked positively funereal beside this fella.

Sabin handled the case carefully, sitting it in the backseat of the jeep before turning back to him and offering him his hand.
"I'm Dr. Duvert, one of the researchers here. I'm sure that the pamphlet told you more, but the island is primarily a research station for Feral Labs. But since the facilities don't take up but a small portion of the island, we sometimes entertain small groups of vacationers here who look for the real getaways - tropical jungles, untouched beaches, reefs, and the like. So it doesn't really have a name other than some technical designation no one really uses." He gave a genial laugh. "We just call it 'The Island'... but that's because we work here and are here for most of the year."

Nathan accepted the hand and shook it, with a bit of confusion. "Research lab, eh? That's kind of weird, but I guess if you guys don't use the pretty parts of it, it'd be a pity and a waste." He climbed into the jeep and glanced around curiously.
"As far as I'm concerned, Paradise is just as good of a name by the looks of it." He grinned and looked back at the eccentric gent.

Sabin mirroed the smile as he finished securing Nathan's things into the backseat and climbed into the driver's seat with a bounce in his step.
"Paradise is a good word for it. Hence Feral Labs feeling... obliged to share it with a few other lucky souls from time to time. It is too good not to share."
He pressed down on the gas pedal with his flipflot-clad food and pulled a sharp turn to take the jeep down the narrow dirt road that carved through the jungle.
"There are just a couple of formalities. The only downside to being in the middle of a tropical paradise is that it is also a paradise to some strange diseases. So we have to give you a booster with the vaccinations. Don't want you getting sick while you're here. That could really ruin a vacation, no?" He laughed again, the French accent more detectable in the man's voice the more he spoke.

Nathan laughed lightly. "Worse than drinking the water in Mexico I take it? What like, malaria and stuff like that? No problem, man, do what you gotta. Last think I need is to be in the john my entire vacation. I'm not afraid of needles." He gestured to the piercing through his nose, and the tattoos visible on his shoulder and arm.
As the jeep went into motion he looked at the scenery with an expression of release and relief. This place seemed untouchable, no way would the Columbians be able to get to him here. He was safe at last.

"Yes, Malaria, as well as a particularly virulent strain of Dengue fever. I am glad that I was not among the first researchers here! I hear that many of them had to be sent back to the mainland to treat some particularly bad hemmhoraging." Sabin gave a wince. "But don't worry! The vaccinations will keep you healthy and not bleeding from your pores." The man seemed to talk about the symptoms all too friviolously.
Sabin eyed his tattoos as he drove - taking his eyes off the road long enough to give most people a feeling of discomfort. The roads were narrow, bumpy, and Sabin wasn't taking it at the pace that most sane people would when the branches of the jungle flora to either side were already almost scraping the sides of the white jeep, as if reaching to overtake the road that had been gashed through its center.
"Fascinating patterns. do they mean anything?" Sabin asked curiously, flicking his eyes back up to Nathan's before returning them to the road, swerving quickly to avoid a monkey scrambling out of the way of the jeep.

Nathan's face scrunched up in disgust at the talk of bleeding out of one's pores. He didn't gross out easily, but that just sounded nasty as all hell. He was thankful when the conversation turned to his ink.
He shook his head. "I don't think they mean anything, or at least if they do I haven't got the slightest. I gave the artist free reign on them. He's a damn master with a needle. Guy down in Miami. I wanted him to do more but I ended up relocating to New York. "

"Well, whomever you commissioned did a very good job. They are very striking, yet unique."
He continued driving, thinking over the man's file that he had read over. He was in luck yet again about the serum not yet being designated, and the options were many. Sabin delighted in being given the priviledge to choose the serum - to literally shape their lives, mould them physically.
Pretty soon the road opened up to a large laboratory complex, huge gates like something out of Jurassic Park, only branded with the Feral Labs logo swung open as the Jeep drove through and parked in the small parking lot.
"You can leave your things in the jeep. We just need to run into the labs for your immunization, and then I can take you to where you'll be staying."

"Great," Nathan remarked as he hopped out agiley and followed Sabin, stretching out his arms by pulling on across his chest by his elbow, then doing the same to the other. "Is the jet lag rough around here? Hope I don't have to waste a day running my toes through the carpet or whatever to get myself right."
He waggled his brows, obviously joking about it. The young man seemed to be in good humor and decent health, if looking a little underfed.

"That's hard to say. But I don't think the time zone here is too far off from The Big Apple. So you shouldn't have too many problems. But like I said, I've been here for a while so haven't had to adjust in some time."
He clapped him on the back as he led him into the front doors - which also slid open soundlessly into a plush waiting room, complete with leather couches, outdated magazines on coffee tables, and a beautiful scenic look over the ocean.
Sabin didn't give the vista a moment's pause, however, as he led Nathan through the door in the back, and through a sterile hallway to an elevator. It opened as he tapped the button, and Sabin stepped in. Once Nathan was in as well, he spoke aloud "Floor 8" And the elevator doors whisked shut and there was the sensation of quick movement.

Nathan followed, though he did gaze longingly out the scenic vista on the way to the elevator. Once in he seemed surprised. "Voice commands? That's sweet! This place must be rollin in the dough, eh? No wonder you guys can give out prize vacations."
He leaned back against the wall and shoved his hands in the pockets of his leather pants, wishing that maybe he'd worn something lighter than cow hide. Course, the only summery thing he owned was a pair of swim trunks which were solidly back in his pack.

Sabin's mouth turned up in a wry quirk. "You had better believe it. I don't want to think about the millions that they spent on this facility... especially to be able to put it into novelties like voice-activated elevators and touchless-doors." He shook his head, in a bit of bewilderment himself. "But it is funny the things you can get used to when you are around them long enough." The statement itself was simple enough, but the tone he said it almost gave it a cryptic air.
"And here we are - Medical room, floor 8." The doors indeed whisked open to reveal a sterile-white and chrome room with various medical devices around the edges. "Have a seat if you like, I just need to give you a proper dosage.."
Sabin walked over to a mirrored cabinet, that slid open - it was difficult to tell if Nathan wasn't looking closely - but Sabin never actually touched the polished surface, only waved his hand in front of it as it slid open. Inside were rows of bottles and Sabin peered over them cautiously.
Glancing back to the man in the room, the leather pants that hugged his hips, and then a quirk of a smile at the circular ring that was fitted through his septum, Sabin knew the choice and deftly plucked a bottle from near the back. It had been there some time - and it was not a bad choice. Mammalian, after all. And admittedly one that Duver had hoped to try on a subject at some point - but he had yet to find one that he figured suitable. If his imagination were any indication, than an animalistic male rodeo bull would make for quite the ideal minotaur... none of the tinkering with additive serums to create this myth.
He grabbed a cotton swab, moisened it with alcohol and approached Nathan again after filling a syringe with the clear liquid. "This will just p***k for a moment."

Nathan held out his arm obediently and grinned. "Nothing wrong with a p***k, I always say." He winked, and idly hoped that the guys bright taste in clothes meant he wouldn't be too offended by his less than straight jest.

Sabin snorted a laugh and wiped his arm with the alcohol before sticking him with the needle. The injection itself wasn't painful, but the followup sensation as the liquid filled his arm stung, and then felt hot as it encountered his blood stream and began to mix. The sensation filled his arm, seeped to his chest, and then his whole body seemed to feel it.
Pulling out the needle, swabbing his arm a second time, he tossed both into the wastebasket. "You might feel a bit feverish tonight, but that's nothing out of the ordinary. If you didn't bring any with you, there's tylenol and other medications that you can pick up in the town hall - that's the big building in the middle of the duplexes. Everything is covered - from food in the cafeteria to an open beach bar." Sabin grinned.
"I'll take you to your duplex now if you're ready, and you're welcome to settle in and take in the island."

Nathan grimaced a little at the unsettling sensation of the drug spreading through his system. He shook it off though and grinned once more at Sabin. "That'd be great, man. And open bar, that sounds even better!"
Inwardly he was perplexed by the feeling of the burn moving entirely through him. "That's some pretty strong stuff..." he offered.
