She glanced behind when Soran started talking and watched with amusement at her attempt to test out the blade.
"Ah..." she said as she started going off balance and turned around to help but missed out on doing so, "You'll get the hang of it. I guess it is hard at first if you have a heavy weapon." Ruqua caught the "Bad" of her muttered sentence and assumed wrong of what she was saying, "Don't worry, I'll get someone to patch up that hole in your vest. I had no talent what so ever. I almost hit my head, trying to lift my weapon off the ground. Still, I have lots to learn."
She turned around to face their destination again and continued on walking. Ruqua started to climb the many steps to the Chaos Gate.

Soran was about to tell Ruqua that she was referring to her upcoming fights, but decided it wasn't important. Putting her sword over her shoulder, since there was no way she was going to put it back in its holster and risk not being able to pull it out, she followed her new friend to the Chaos Gate. "So, exactly where are we headed?"

"Lvl 1 Training Area, or the Beginner's Field as it is called," she replied, using the proper name unlike the other less nice players who called it the "n00b circus."
She looked behind her, "Hey, look. You can see quite a lot up here. It's a nice place." Ruqua felt a cool breeze ruffling her short hair and continued to the edge of the huge circle that was shaded with the roof. Inscriptions were around the rotating multicoloured portal.

Soran's eyes widened. Up here, looking down on Ouru, you felt a little bit bigger, a little bit more confident. She smiled as she tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. "This place is beautiful." After a moment of silence, she turned back to Ruqua. "Alright, I'm ready. Let's go."

Ruqua smiled and held her free hand, stepping into the Chaos Gate.
"The Field Training Area Lvl 1" she said as they floated in the gate and in another moment the translucent screen of multicolour fell down. There they were, in the Field.
"Be ready, a portal may have been triggered on our arrival."
Sure enough a ScareCrow hopped into view and a message appeared on the top of her screen: Battle Mode: Three ScareCrows have attacked. The background music changed into another track for battle mode. Ruqua looked for the other ScareCrows and spotted them following the first. "Lvl 1 ScareCrow" appeared as they came closer.
"You take one, I'll handle the other two," she said quickly as she saw them all aiming for Soran as she was the lower level. She moved infront of Soran and readied her blade as she ran.

"Three?" Soran said as she saw the message. She nodded her head at Ruqua's plan and ran for the one on the left. Hacking into him easily, she smiled and thought, Hey, this isn't so bad, right before the scarecrow swung at her, knocking her several feet away. "Ow," she said, rubbing her shoulder. I take that back. She started to play a cautious dance with it, moving in to attack and then scrambling out of the way before it could hit her. After a few rounds, she rolled just out of the way to glance to the right. Ruqua was already finished, and it looked like she hadn't broken a sweat. Probably hasn't, Soran thought as she continued to fight.

Ruqua had horizontally cut at the two as they were together and as usual they faded the moment she hit.
Waay too low level she thought and collected the chests and coins dropped.
'Item Gained: 2x Ragged pieces of cloth
1x squashed hat
10 gold.'
Ruqua watched as Soran battled thinking she was better than her in her first battle.
"That's it, hit harder and be more agressive," she called as she summoned her inventory and grabbed a healing potion.

Soran nodded, but felt like grumbling just because she was a bit jealous. However, a bruised shoulder and ego are no reason to be mean. She swallowed her remarks and redirected her annoyance toward the scarecrow, as she was getting more and more hits thinking about leveling up. Finally, with one horizontal cut she didn't know she had power enough to do, she cut the monster in half. It faded, and a treasure chest appeared in its place. She grinned, forgetting her shoulder. "Now that's more like it!" Her shoulder was quickly remembered when she went to open the treasure chest. Ouch. I'm gonna feel that in the morning. "Items gained: 1x Squashed Hat
20 gold."
She felt utterly exhausted, and checking her stats, she saw why: she only had 5 hp left. "Whoa," she said as she fell down.

Ruqua rushed over to her as she fell, dropping her weapon and managed to catch her just as she was near the ground. Worry plain on her face. She shifted her arms under and put her gently on the ground.
"Here," she said and uncorked the clear potion, lifting it to Soran's lips, "It will restore everything and you will be as good as new."
She tipped it slowly as she gushed, "You did marvellous! I am amazed. It is not easy with a Heavy Blade. Your first battle as well! You'll become a great warrior. With your blade you will have to attack with all you have and you did that with your last move. That is what a Heavy Blade would have to do, swinging that thing is hard, so finish it quick."

Soran slowly drank the potion, listening to Ruqua's praise and watching her hp rise from red, to orange, to yellow, to green. "That was exhausting. Well, I feel a lot better now," she said as she slowly got up. "I'm just glad I didn't die, and I hope that wasn't a fluke." She reached for her shoulder. It was still sore when she touched it, and she saw that the bruise was discolored. She imagined that was the case with all the others on her body. Oh well. "I think it's time for a little break. Do all the servers look like this? This one reminds me of the Midwest."

"I'm sure it was not," Ruqua answered to the comment about the fluke, "Don't worry about the bruises, they will patch up in a few minutes."
Ruqua pulled out the squashed hat and examined it.
"Well, not really, this is the best place for training as the creatures just come out where you can see them. All the Root Towns are unique and so are the training areas."

"Cool." Soran stratched her muscles. She'd gotten a good workout, one of the best she'd ever had, real life or otherwise. "So how do we get back to Ouru for now? I'm kinda hungry." As if on cue, her stomach growled.

"Through that portal," she said, pointing behind them to the translucent tube of multi colour, which was a few hundred metres away. "We might trigger some other Magic Portals when walking though. Do you mind if I dispatch them for you? If not you can have another try."

"Hmm," Soran thought carefully. Ruqua could easily take care of any monsters that came through, but she needed the experience. After a couple of minutes, she said, "How about we just head there? I think I'm getting the hang of this thing. If not, I can just call for help? I don't think I can handle three at a time just yet."

"Sure thing," she said brightly and started walking in the direction of the portal. Nothing seemed to happen until she stepped on a rock and with the change of music the Battle Mode message popped up again.
Battle Mode: 1x Blob.
s**t, Ruqua thought.
"Uhh, bad. Real bad," she said as a multicoloured transparent blob bounced into view from in front. The blob looked extremely cute. It was the half the size of Ruqua and had large round green and yellow button eyes. At every bounce the blob made a funny boing sound, though it did not jump very high due to its weight.
Lvl 15 Blob was the tag that appeared as it came closer.
"I've never beaten one before, I guess the system decided that we needed a challenge," she said as she saw no other way to run to the portal as the Blob was approaching quickly.
