Guess what, I watched another episode of Filter on the same channel and it was on the best Dreamcast games.

Shenmue was placed 3rd as the best Dreamcast game! People just can't make up their minds, but hey, this time it was voted as one of the best instead of the worst, so I guess thats good.

I think most of us who have played the game can strongly agree that Shenmue was a very innovative game. I wouldn't trust G4 that much, Have you seen some of their shows, just pitiful. I want TechTv back >_< I could trust them a lot more then G4. Oh well all that matters is that we at Sega's not dead guild know that Shenmue was a grear game for the Dreamcast. whee

I thought Shenmue was really good..... One of the best games for the DC i'll say!

I think part of the problem is that when it was first released noone knew what genre to put it in. So a good majority of the people who bought it weren't sure of what to expect and those that thought it would be an action game or an RPG were very quickly bored to death with it. Shenmue is, however, one of the best examples of an Adventure game ever created. In fact, I can't think of a single adventure game with as good a story, OR as much realism in the adventure world.

Another problem, however, is that while it is an adventure, many adventure gamers don't like it because of the controls. Most graphic adventures use a mouse for point & click actions. Also, traditional adventure gamers usually hate it when adventure games have action elements in them. Historically the only action/adventure genre combination that has ever sold well at all has been Survival Horror. Because Shenmue had some frantic action, and fighting in it, it lost a good deal of it's target audience.

Of course I could be wrong, but those are my theories. smile

Never played it but from the screenshots I've seen it seems ok.

The screenshots can't convey any of the essence of the game unfortunately. You must play it. Even if you don't like itm, you must play it to decide. Even watching someone else play doesn't give you the same feeling...It's just one of those games that must be experienced...not just played.

I'm just curious, but what didn't you like about II? I got into it just as much as the first (actually easier since I was already familiar with the controls wink ) I just haven't beat it yet. I wish they would have brought the Dreamcast version to the US. Then I could play it on my VGA box! smile
