Violeteyes IX PsyGirl Hey, did you know that Fuuma's name is actually pronounced "Huuma" in Japanese? Well, not exactly "Huu..." It's more like an "H" and an "F" sound combined, so your making the "F" sound between your 2 lips instead of your lip and teeth. Kinda like "Hfuuma..." sweatdrop stare I hate you!! gonk scream Why'd you have to tell me that?! That sounds so retarded... crying gonk *Hides* I thought it sounded kinda cute... more uke-ish. I bet your just not pronouncing it right, and your hooting like an owl in the library...

Astareia If you want to be technical about it, there are several sounds in the Japanese language that are irregulars to the typical pattern -- take, for example, the K line = "ka ki ku ke ko." This is the expected. In the T line, there are two irregularities = "ta CHI TSU te to." Instead of ti and tu, which are not part of the Japanese linguistic sound system, they become chi and tsu. The S line has one irregular = "sa SHI su se so," shi instead of si. (All of these differences in pronunciation and sticking to the pattern make for lots of arguments in putting Japanese into a Roman alphabet. It's very annoying. In case anyone cares, I highly prefer the Hepburn system of chi, tsu, shi, and so on.) In the H line, what you're referring to with Fuuma, is "ha hi FU he ho." It's a softer F than our usual F in English... Kinda like their R is often a slide between L and R. Uh, yeah. I'm just a geeky Japanese major who took a linguistics class. *goes back to homework* Hmm, yeah, I know all that. I took just a 'lil Japanese on my own, so I know all the sounds and stuff. And I can read a little hiragana too. The first word in your signature is "sagashini" but I don't know what that means... I can't read any of the kanji.

The first word in your signature is "sagashini" but I don't know what that means... I can't read any of the kanji. I'm a 3rd year Japanese student in college, though I've been studying it for 5+ years now, all counted up. My sig reads "sagashi ni: boku dake no hito." If you've read/watched Chobits, it's a semi-reference. wink Literally, In search of: The person just for me. Boku being the semi-informal male version of "I," but I like to use it in non-classroom settings anyway because the usual "watashi" is neutral formal and "atashi" is way too friggin' girly. xd "Sagashi ni" being a form of the verb "sagasu," to search. "Hito" is person, "dake" is hard to translate on it's own, but in context it makes sense. The string of kanji under that line reads "Hagane no Renkinjutsushi," better known in English as Fullmetal Alchemist. I'm a big Hagaren fangirl. heart

PsyGirl Araaaa... I'm not worthy... *Worships your all mighty Japanese-ness.* I hope to one day follow in your footsteps! *Salutes* Maaa... redface Actually, my reading skills are really bad. I've only been taught (taught being different than actually knowing and remembering sweatdrop ) about half of the 1006 kanji required to be literate by the Japanese Ministry of Education. But I'm working on it!
