I'm not terribly fond of any of the Greek deities- they're all too human for my taste. If even your gods suffer from hubris and jealousy, it's hard to understand why they should be worshiped. Then again, I suppose that reflects a certain logical practicality of the Greek culture, in acknowledging that none of the mortals they bowed down to were perfect, so there was certainly no need for the immortals they worshiped to have that trait.

Anyway, philosophical musings aside, I have a soft spot in my heart for Medusa. She was originally a pretty young woman- the only reason she became a monster was Athena's jealousy at Poseidon's taking advantage of Medusa in her temple. Besides, after she and her fellow gorgons were slain (I'm not sure of the background on the other two- I should go find my OCD [Oxford Classical Dictionary] and look that up..), Chrysaor and Pegasus arose out of Medusa's corpse. Something beautiful was a result of her, despite the.. err.. problems of her monster life. I have a Medusa poem somewhere.. *rummages*

Mercury/Hermes. He has the coolest shoes whee

I'm in the process of designing shoes with wings. For no other reason than my own enjoyment.

Exactly.

Although I always thought the the big, gluttonous party-god was cool. I think it began with an 'h', but I forget everything. God of wine and celebration, and all that jazz.

I'm more into Egyptian history/mythology; I'd have to say that Anubis and Bast are (and always have been) my personal favorites. 3nodding

Christianity is my main interest; The only Grecian things that interest me are their scientists and philosophers.

Persephone has been my favourite ever since I had to act as her in a play in the sixth grade.

Maybe I'm a little biased. heart

Oh my gods yes! Egyptian history is awesome, as is Japanese. My favorite figure from Japanese mythology is the woman of the snow. I think, when I was into Greek mythology, I liked Hades. Not really because of the god himself... I just liked the mythological image of hell.

I've never had a real favorite of the gods, but I do like Athena. She's pretty cool, and I love the story about Athens. Olive trees kick horses butts everyday!

Let's see,

I always liked Athena - the goddess of specific arts, crafts, and skills as well as the deity of wisdom and good counsel.

Artemis is also an interesting figure in Greek mythology, however. The beautiful, chaste, huntress armed with a bow and arrows who was the twin sister of Apollo who unfortunately was known to have quite the temper as poor Actaeon (the man who saw Artemis in the bath and was quickly torn down by his own hounds) experienced.

Anyway, there are so many interesting figures it is difficult to simply chose just one!
