My friend keeps pissing me off, because he says that Iron Maiden is power metal, Trivium is not metalcore but Thrash metal, Lamb of God doesn't have hardcore influences, and it wasn't Overkill but Motorhead that started thrash metal, when Motorhead started Speed Metal. Dude's a ******** idiot. (Anenemyofreality on Gaia, if you wanted to know).

Overkill wrote the first thrash album, although it mostly came from Speed Metal, which was charicterised by Motorhead. Trivium is medio-core and Iron Maiden aren't power metal. Lamb of God are gay and so therefore MUST have hardcore influences. Your friend knows about as much about music as Christopher Reeve knows about walking.

His explanation for Iron Maiden? That because some of Maiden's songs are faster-paced than some of Hammerfall's songs, that automatically makes them power metal. That's what he'd say. He also says Mercyful Fate is power metal (that one i'm not so sure about, as i've not listened to much MF), and that he knows all this because he owns a dictionary on heavy metal "Written by Ronnie James Dio himself."

Mercyful Fate are a heavy metal band/thrash band. They're pretty good at points and downright dull at others. Hammerfall are a heavy metal band, so I'm not sure what he's on about. Also, if that's his description, it would make every thrash/speed metal band a power metal band.

Sadly I have fail to get people to think power emo is not real but people think bands like "between the bured and me"... a hard core band!!! is power EMO?? I am so tired with that argument!! some people get in over there head when they make s**t up... but then they got others that are less smart then them even to belive this!!
I am done talking about this!

Haha reading all of this makes me feel very dumb since I'm fairly new into power metal (Discovered it early this year by chance when I randomly bought a Gamma-Ray cd because the album cover was cool (it was No World Order BTW)). A lot of the bands you're all talking about I had no idea what genre to put them into but personally I think it's fruitless to bicker on about something that is merely a personal opinion. The music itself is what matters not what "genre" it fits into.

Don't-label-things-guy: "I'd like some soup." Waiter: "What kind of soup would you like?" Don't-label-things-guy: "Gawd! Why do you have to label everything? You are ruining the soup! Stop segregating the soups! Give me soup that I like!"
