Haha, I used to be so terrified of horror movies! I was even scared to walk down the horror movie isle in the movie store (when I was littler). I got so use to watching them becuase my friend always rented them so now, I love them! And I always rent them, can't get enough of them. wink
|

When I was little my dad told me to see jason or freddy in the big screen before I was afraid but then I got used to all the blood and gore twisted

Not sure exactly on how I became a horror fan. I know that when I was 2 I started watching Predator and the Haunting so maybe they got me into it.

Like a lot of other people, I started watching them with my dad. Every weekend he would take my siblings and I to the video rental place (once we joined the rest of the 80's with a VCR) and we would get a bunch of stuff. Of course there were always horror movies on television too.
The funny thing is, he doesn't even like horror movies now. I think he just enjoyed the bonding part. A lot of our inside jokes, with my dad and my siblings, still revolve around old movies we watched.
Now that we are all grown up, I am the only one of us who is really a horror movie fan. My siblings will still watch some and purchase DVDs of old favorites.. but I am the only one it really stuck with as an interest. I usually watch them by myself unless I can bribe my husband into joining. blaugh I never thought it would be so ridiculously hard to find someone to watch horror movies with.

I became a horror flick chik at a sleepover a looong time ago when my friend rented Child's Play 1 and 3, after that I just became hooked

I got into horror movies not because the people in my family encouraged it (I've noticed many of you who posted before me were) my mother was very overprotective when it came to what I was allowed to watch as a child. I wasn't allowed to watch much of anything except things like Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and Seasame Street or Disney cartoons until I was like eight (doesn't seem that long, but believe me it was an eternity). The only horror movies I ever saw were short glimpses of things like IT whenever I was over at my neighbor Abby's house. When I got into grade school, I started reading the Goosebumps books...
I got into horror because, I guess, it was something forbidden. Something I knew I shouldn't be doing...
Eventually, mum lightened up and I was allowed to watch horror, but I still have alot of classics that I have yet to see.

I saw "Halloween" and "The Evil Dead" when I was around 7 years old. Cronenberg's "The Fly" hooked me forever.

My aunt got me liking horror movies. My mother tried to shelter me, but she let me spend a night with my aunt. Return of the Living Dead was the first I ever saw. I came home all happy and my mother was acting like I had just been shown Cannibal Holocaust. I was about 4.

Hhhmmmm... uhhh... well... I guess it all started when dad sat me down to watch Alien... we watched it together and from there on in, I had a thing for horror movies, but my mom wouldn't let me rent one without dad to watch it with me. So until I became old enough, like 9, I was at the mercy of my dad and his work schedule. Now I am the horror buff at my home, looking intently through the sections at Video USA and at the racks in Wal-Mart, just scratching off movies that look cheap and badly made, although I enjoy Return of the Living Dead 4 and 5 simply FOR how bad they are in relation to the other three titles.

For me this all started with my grandmother. She was a big horror movie lover herself. She was a big fan of Dracula, in fact most of her movies were about Dracula and vampires. She had A LOT of horror movies which we kept in a big storage container. That's all she loved, besides Christopher Walkin(I don't know if that's how you say his last name). The first movie I saw was Candyman(I snuck was watched that one) and that was the first and only horror movie to really ever scare me. Around that time I wasn't really allowed to watch them, but I always did with her. The first movie I saw with her was Bram Stoker's Dracula. You'd think at that age I would watch Children's movies, but I never really liked them.

Eh my parents taped "The Monster Squad" on HBO for me. (This was 87...so the same year I was born.) So yeah I watched that like everyday. Plus I was 90's kid...which means...Goosebumps and Are you Afraid of the Dark?.
Long story short...my parnets don't believe in censorship and yeah...I choose to like horror movies. No special sit down with daddy no creepy cousin making me watch them...I just wanted to and was allowed...

i had multiple accidents when i was little. i saw the most goriest and/or scariest parts of horror movies which sorta tramatized me. one day i was on deviantart and i got into these comics a girl with the username zooni dose about horror charachters and i got into them from there

my parents loved horror movies and would play them constantly when i was really young but what made me a fan was a movie called pieces i saw when i was really really little....i could not sleep after watchin that and saome of those scenes were just engraved in my skull i was so terrified and fascinated.
