I.Am
No, you really are mistaken. Before
Lolita, the word had no meaning except as a girl's name. So it's no coincidence.
I know this is old, but as a Lolita I feel the need to comment. Just as an introduction, I have been heavily into this fashion for over 6 years, so I have an idea what I am talking about.
You may think that it isn't a coincidence, but it is. The lolita fashion actually stresses
not being sexual as a major point. The name comes from the fascination Japan has with taking English words and slapping them on things to make them sound/look cool. [For instance, I once found a shirt that said "All the with flavors of being a girl"] It's very much the same principle as non-Japanese cultures slapping kanji tattoos on, when they have no earthly idea what they
really mean.
With this occuring, horrible concidences are going to happen. Perhaps Mana just thought Lolita meant girl. Perhaps he liked the way it sounded. Perhaps he just knew it was a classic. Whatever the reason, Lolita is not supposed to represent sexualized little girls in any way, shape, or fashion. Actually, some of the key designers have said they design how they would want their women to be; sweet, modest, and beautiful. Considering the Japanese gender roles for women, this is not surprising.
