Ladyfriend Ok. The main forum is pretty much finished. Just a few touch ups required on the stickies. I think it would be good to have an informal format to the policy discussion threads. Something along the lines of... first post [details of discussion; When is started, when we intend to vote on it, vote results so far, and final decission:] [Your proposed entry into the manifesto] second post [all of the guilds discussion on the subject so far. Copy pasta'd from here] third, and subsequent, posts I starting to feel a little obsesive about creating order here! That looks OK. If anyone needs a guide, the Constitution thread is a fair example.

I think we should make a list of our goals and anything else needed for the manifesto, then work on composing the document.

The maifesto should inclued: Quote: *Everything in the first two posts of this thread. * * Myslec I think we should make a list of our goals I realise it's not perfect, but... http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=472368Maybe a combined long term, and short term, goals thread would be better.

Okay, do you think that we should start fresh on ideas, and not just copy them from another thread (I mean, if we think of something we want, we add it, we don't add it just because we have previously thought of it.).

Myslec Okay, do you think that we should start fresh on ideas, and not just copy them from another thread I think that we are trying to create an entirely new political party for the governance of the whole world, that is trying to recruit members with a wide variety of political concerns, and we don't even have a set of election issues to base our manifesto on. Being as comprehensive and detailed as possible, whilst also providing a summary of each issue for those with short attention spans, will only work in our favour. Also, do you see anything in that list that we shouldn't include in the manifesto?

Yes, Saab cars shouldn't be included in the manifesto. lol
The list needs to be weeded down so much, but yes, I agree. That start is good. If we see stuff that is questionable, we can vote on it later. I commend you for making the list, but where to from here? I would transfer every relevant idea into a single, new post. from there it could easily be worked with, added to and subtracted from in a similar manner to how the constitution was worked on. once the list is finished, we can put it in paragraph form. I don't have any extra time this week or next. If the list isn't complete by then, I'll have all day to work on it.
If you have a better idea, please state it.

If we see stuff that is questionable, we can vote on it later. I commend you for making the list, but where to from here? I wasn't suggesting we put all of our discussions into the manifesto. All of the general subjects (the headers in bold) should be in it though. The discussion so far were included in this thread so we could have a general idea of where we have stood on these issues, and as a resourse for future discussions. Myslec I would transfer every relevant idea into a single, new post. from there it could easily be worked with, added to and subtracted from in a similar manner to how the constitution was worked on. once the list is finished, we can put it in paragraph form. I don't have any extra time this week or next. If the list isn't complete by then, I'll have all day to work on it. If you have a better idea, please state it. What I had been considering was using the novos account to create a seperate thread for each subject. They would all follow the format shown at the beggining of this thread. Each one would then be locked untill someone presents a possible entry into the manifesto on one of those subjects. At which point, if we do not already have several discussions going on, their proposal will be entered into the first post of the thread, and we discuss, vote on, and pass/deny it. If it is denied we add it to the third post in the thread which will be reserved for failed proposals. That way we will all know which subjects are still to be covered, anyone can create a proposal, and they can be produced one at a time.

Ladyfriend, that sounds good, but I worry that it may become disorganized and be difficult to control.
I will support your method unless a better one presents itself.

I'm just sorry I can't make one. I'm not much of a virtuosa in terms of technology. Not my forte, you see... ^_^ Maybe I could ask around! Would that be okay?

here is a good one Hackers Manifesto - The Mentor Published by: breaks, on 2004-11-20 17:50:06 ==Phrack Inc.==
Volume One, Issue 7, Phile 3 of 10
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The following was written shortly after my arrest...
/The Conscience of a Hacker//
by
+++The Mentor+++
Written on January 8, 1986 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Another one got caught today, it's all over the papers. "Teenager Arrested in Computer Crime Scandal", "Hacker Arrested after Bank Tampering"... Damn kids. They're all alike.
But did you, in your three-piece psychology and 1950's technobrain, ever take a look behind the eyes of the hacker? Did you ever wonder what made him tick, what forces shaped him, what may have molded him? I am a hacker, enter my world... Mine is a world that begins with school... I'm smarter than most of the other kids, this crap they teach us bores me... Damn underachiever. They're all alike.
I'm in junior high or high school. I've listened to teachers explain for the fifteenth time how to reduce a fraction. I understand it. "No, Ms. Smith, I didn't show my work. I did it in my head..." Damn kid. Probably copied it. They're all alike.
I made a discovery today. I found a computer. Wait a second, this is cool. It does what I want it to. If it makes a mistake, it's because I screwed it up. Not because it doesn't like me... Or feels threatened by me... Or thinks I'm a smart a**... Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here... Damn kid. All he does is play games. They're all alike.
And then it happened... a door opened to a world... rushing through the phone line like heroin through an addict's veins, an electronic pulse is sent out, a refuge from the day-to-day incompetencies is sought... a board is found. "This is it... this is where I belong..." I know everyone here... even if I've never met them, never talked to them, may never hear from them again... I know you all... Damn kid. Tying up the phone line again. They're all alike...
You bet your a** we're all alike... we've been spoon-fed baby food at school when we hungered for steak... the bits of meat that you did let slip through were pre-chewed and tasteless. We've been dominated by sadists, or ignored by the apathetic. The few that had something to teach found us will- ing pupils, but those few are like drops of water in the desert.
This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the beauty of the baud. We make use of a service already existing without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering gluttons, and you call us criminals. We explore... and you call us criminals. We seek after knowledge... and you call us criminals. We exist without skin color, without nationality, without religious bias... and you call us criminals. You build atomic bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and lie to us and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals.
Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for.
I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this individual, but you can't stop us all... after all, we're all alike.
