I sort of agree with you but sometimes I worry about other RPers just to avoid hassle. Know what I mean? And then of course GMs are worried about people JOINING their RP... at all. *laughs* I'd be interested to see what you come up with. whee

I think most normal religions, like christianity, can't give much to a Role play. Of course it can help with building a character but other than that it isn't very...fun. Made up religions can add to an Rp in great amounts. Of course you'd have to go indebt if it's part of your main plot.
In the Dragonlance series religion is the main theme. I love to read the books with their battles between the gods of good and evil. They are very indebt and they give you everything you want to know. Those types of made up religions would make a good rp plot.
However, it's a lot of work to make it where it's interesting and that everyone understands it.

I disagree completely. I've read some pretty cool Christian literature, at the very least.
On the other hand, I think that you could say that for FANTASY RPs, real religions at least need to be modified. Part of the point of Fantasy or SciFi is to give metaphors for how things could or do work IRL.

What if you have fantastical or biblical situations inside of the "real world"...sort of a "what if" or alternate reality. Then biblical/religious things could play in the real world, right?

folchinator What if you have fantastical or biblical situations inside of the "real world"...sort of a "what if" or alternate reality. Then biblical/religious things could play in the real world, right? I would join that! Assuming it was 1) set up well 2) Didn't involve Jesus not being Jesus-y. xd There are plenty of things in the Bible that are interesting, cultures and history for the win!

Yeah, I mean, I include references to demons, heaven, and hell in mine, but I present them in a completely different setting, so as not to taint the real thing. I guess framing is a big issue in this debate.
