Leaning forward, she rests her forearms on the table, keeping her fingers laced together. It would stop her from fiddling with everything on the planet. Which was a plus. Blue hair fell over her forehead as she considers the girl's question.

Now if that wasn't just the most complicated question a person could ask someone like Karina. Her eyes dart to the side and she mulls it over. She had just been asking herself that self same question. How long had it been? Was there a calendar somewhere she could compare to?

Then, a moment later and she speaks lightly. "That depends. What year is it now?" The question seemed very out of place on the oddly youthful looking woman.

                                                        But yanno. Magic shenaniganery.

Then, a tilt of her head and she finally unlaces her fingers, tucking a bit of hair behind her ear and huffing out a breath. "It's been at least ten years. Fifteen?" Then, a pause. "Honestly maybe longer..." She had gotten very good at the banjo and harp, after all.

Then, the whirring of the bot returning with their drink saved her from a very awkward pause after that. Her grin spreads and she pushes up to her feet carefully, taking both drinks from the tray. "Thank you...!" she chirps.

Setting one in front of Estelle, she takes a sip of hers, sitting back down. Huckleberry vodka, ginger soda, and lime juice. Not to mention the delightful muddled fruit down at the bottom.

Estelle la Roune

As Rina asks her insane questions and does the math, Estelle just remains quiet. Thinking that Rina is much older than herself, she's suddenly self conscious about where she's sitting. Thankfully such feelings go as easily as they come. The feeling is so brief she doesn't even shuffle in her seat like she so often did.

"Maybe longer...? I suppose a welcome back is in order, then," Estelle tries to smile. That sad almost-smile that so often seemed to scare people or make them have complicated expressions in return.

She's thankful for the arrival of their beverages. Something to sip on to avoid the awkwardness of herself. The fruity flavors and the tartness of the drink almost hid the flavor of the alcohol. Almost.

All at once the back of her throat burned just enough to let her know to take it easy. She'd have to drink this very very slowly. Especially since she hadn't eaten in at least two days. Or was it three? She'd honestly lost count. The fruit in the drink would suffice, though now sipping it slowly would feel like torture. A small part of her wanted to drag that robot back and order something else, but this was her own fault.

She felt foolish for ordering something that sounded good without knowing what was in it. Estelle couldn't tell if that was reckless or brave on her part. It honestly didn't matter. This was one hill she would have to sip down slowly or die on. Pride, after all, was all she had left.

Karina looks at Estelle as she speaks, then chuckles at the response. Honestly, fair though. She needed to get better at time. Or get herself an automatic calendar. Something she didn't have to remember to charge or check or take care of or remember to bring with her anywhere.

Maybe it was best that she just didn't and called it fine. What did knowing today's date ever do for her anyway?

Grimacing lightly, she takes another sip of her drink, then rests it between her hands. A nervous sort of giggle erupts and she shakes her head. "I keep forgetting to respond out loud. I'm so sorry." The words trickle from her and she laughs, rubbing one hand against her forehead.

She needed to get out more. Adventures ahoy, and all that noise.

It had been too long since she had been on a good walkabout, after all.

Taking another sip, she considers, then speaks softly. "And thank you. It's terribly nice being back. Though... you know what would make it better?" She pauses, looking around. "Snacks."

None of the bots were really swinging around them. But never mind that. The fridge here was enough to make even her quiver with delight.

"Wanna come with me to the kitchen? See what we can rustle up?" The bots were terrible cooks anyway. They were best used for drinks and drinks only. Wherever the place kept the alcohol was well away from the patrons, after all.

Pushing up to her feet, she starts winding through the room, her drink held aloft so that she didn't spill it. There was zero part of her that checked if Estelle would follow. Karina was terrible about assuming that people would just follow her rather bossy questions about.

Estelle la Roune

Estelle is only momentarily confused by Karina's statement of speaking out loud. The girl's giggle had been rather pleasant to Estelle's ears, and she wouldn't mind hearing laughter once more. It had been far too long since anyone around her laughed genuinely, and not because they had an advantage over someone else. Those nasty guffaws fell incomparably short to the soft giggle that had escaped Rina's lips.

As Estelle was pondering how to respond to such a statement, Rina suggested snacks. Food! At the mention of something to eat, Estelle's eyes widened just slightly. She would not be turning down such an opportunity. And there's a kitchen in this place, hopefully stocked? No one would ever have to ask Estelle twice to visit a kitchen and make herself at home.

As Karina makes her way to the kitchen, Estelle follows behind almost excitedly. She's doing her best to keep up, and belatedly realizes she forgot her drink at the table. Oh well, food is more important she decided right then. It wasn't worth losing Karina's navigation to a stocked kitchen.

"What they do they usually have here? Is there a menu maybe?" Estelle's tone is a bit brighter than her usual demeanor at the thought of anything real to eat. Honestly, anything edible at this point would gladly be welcomed into her stomach. She silently hopes it isn't too far to the kitchen as she begins to look around for another little robot. They seemed helpful, at least.

If anything was the great equalizer for moods, it was the prospect of food, Karina decided. Estelle had almost as much enthusiasm for the idea as she usually did. Something about time passing without her realizing made her notice that she was not great at eating.

But she was terribly good at drinking.

Maybe part of her absence could have been chalked up to spacing a rather important part of the sleep-eat-drink cycle.

Hearing the question, she glances back, then chuckles throatily. "Oh they have everything." Great thing about an enchanted fridge. Though, she should probably be really careful opening that door this time.

She didn't want another repeat of the 'berry incident'.

After all, Leo wasn't here to clean up after her.

The thought made her frown, and she takes another sip of her drink, going behind the bar and pushing the door to the kitchen open. The counters were still wide and spacious, stools strewn about the room. It always reminded her of a teaching kitchen, because of the multiple cook stations. But really, the original owner had just wanted anyone to have the ability to make what they wanted here.

Then, gesturing to the fridge, she sets her drink down on a nearby counter and grins. "Fridge is enchanted to stock whatever you want in it. You just think about the thing you want to find when you open the door, and poof..." She splays her hands like she was doing a magic trick. "...it's in there."

However, a small frown then appears on her fridge. "Just... make sure your thoughts are settled on what you want before you open the thing. It gets a little bit... excitable sometimes." Considering for a moment, she opens the fridge, pulling out a container of naan and tzatziki sauce. Closing the door, she steps away from it, then grins, holding up the items and sitting down at the counter she had chosen as theirs.

Either Estelle would figure out the fridge, or she would have to deal with the odd things that Karina ate.

Estelle la Roune

"Everything?" Estelle's eyes widen a bit more, as she begins to think of all the possibilities that could lie just beyond a fridge door.

Just as Estelle is thinking about all the wonderfully delicious things she's managed to eat in the last month or so, she barely registers Rina saying the fridge gets excitable. It's a magic fridge, how bad could it be? Estelle just goes back to making a quick mental list, consisting of deviled eggs, carrot cake, pastrami sandwiches and mixed berry ice cream. Yeah, that was a good list to start with she figured, excitedly reaching for the fridge door.

Deciding she wasn't sure how hungry she was, she made a note of small portions and only one sandwich before opening the door. Someone once said something something magic likes specifics something something whatever. Estelle was only lightly listening to the rant of one of her school teachers. She never was a great student.

When the door opens, she is momentarily delighted by the sight. Until the smell hit her, and she realized that smelling pickles, deviled eggs and carrot cake all at once was not exactly a pleasant experience. She lets her face twist as it wants, while she pulls out the cake, carefully setting it down away from where she'd be sitting with Rina. With the sandwich in one hand and the eggs in the other, she gently bumps the fridge door with her shoulder to close it as gently as possible. She did not want to get on the bad side of a magical fridge. Plus, she's always hungry.

She'd intentionally left the ice cream inside, since watching it slowly melt while waiting to be eaten made Estelle a bit sad. Usually it was a passing sadness, quickly abated by her rapid scarfing down of the dessert, but with someone watching it didn't make a lot of sense to make a mess in a borrowed kitchen. Cleaning up her own messes was not her favorite thing in the world. Especially after an overreaction that causes a lot of mess.

Finally sitting next to Rina again, she sets down the eggs between them, knowing just how good they were. A good dozen deviled eggs should be shareable among two people, right?

Her eyes linger on the girl as Estelle seems to excitedly approach the fridge. Luckily, she seemed to reel herself in pretty well, and there was no avalanche of fruit when she opened the door. Though, the collection of food she brought out was something to wonder about.

Guess it was also better than the cat girl who opened the door to infinite fish.

                                                        That had been a smell.

Blinking lightly, she chuckles as Estelle sits down, setting the eggs between them. "Nice thing about this place, is it'll always take care of ya." She speaks softly, her gray eyes lingering for a moment more before she looks back to her own snacks.

She then opens the container of tzatziki, taking a sniff before setting it to the side. Opening the naan next, she breathes in the warm scent of the bread, which was interesting since it came from the fridge, and she sighs softly. It was a good time to eat bread and enjoy tasty dips.

Tearing off a piece of the bread, she pulls one leg up underneath her on the stool, her foot resting against the bar to steady her rather interesting perch. Taking a knife from her pouch pocket, she uses it to spread a good dollop of the tzatziki on the naan before she takes a bite.

"So you came here... not on purpose. Where are you from, if I may ask?" Enter nosy time for Karina.

Estelle watches almost hypnotically as Rina prepares her food. Curious as she might be about what the bread is, Estelle's hunger is even stronger. Taking a good chunk out of her pastrami sandwich, she enjoys its flavors briefly before losing herself to the sandwich, scarfing parts of it down like a rabid animal.

Only after is she again aware of Rina and her prying question. Carefully and gently cleaning her mouth, she decides to take it easy on the eggs. She wished to share those, after all, if Rina wanted some.

"Well, I wasn't trying to be here specifically, just somewhere other than where I've been. I was last on Rat's Cove, along the shore of Morrant. Perhaps you've heard of it," she offers as an explanation. "You certainly seem better travelled than I. What's your story?"

She listens to the revelation of the place the girl came from. Rat's Cove. Morrant. Not one of the places she'd traveled to. Then again, most of the places she went were larger cities and towns that needed her expertise. Then again, it's very possible she had been there once and had completely forgotten the experience.

Along with another awkwardly large chunk of her life.

Estelle's question had her pausing mid bite to mouth. Then, finishing it's connection with her teeth, she chews carefully, considering how to answer that. It wasn't very good form to start a conversation with 'oh who the ******** even knows,' now was it?

Swallowing carefully, she speaks softly. "I am a traveling musician. I generally go wherever I can find contract work. Either for performances, or deciphering old manuscripts and neumes." Wiping her bottom lip with the tip of her thumb before licking the sauce off of it, she chuckles softly.

"I also do some minor treasure hunting and ruin delving, when the whim appears for it." She supposed it was a rather interesting way to live a life. It kept her moving around, and kept her from holding still too long.

Perhaps why she held this place in such high esteem. Nowhere else kept her returning like this place did.

Well. Perhaps other than the Oblivion, but that was for a whole different reason, and she hadn't been back there in longer than it had been for her to return here. At least two decades, if not longer, in her estimation.

She still wasn't honestly sure what year it was at this point. Though it seemed less and less important for her to know.

Estelle la Roune

Estelle listens intently to Rina's job description. She'd even stopped eating to listen, which was unheard of for her. She's always hungry.

What are the chances of a half-siren meeting a travelling musician, though? Is that luck? Destiny? Something else? Estelle thought herself fortunate before realizing that was opportunistic of her to think, quickly ridding herself of the thought. It wouldn't do at all to burden someone else with her lack of knowledge. Plus, Estelle was momentarily puzzled about what a musician does with old news. Old newspapers maybe?

The confusion doesn't last. Nothing really lasts in Estelle's world, not even her thoughts. Ruin delving and treasure hunting do sound like interesting hobbies, however.

"If it's ruins you want, Rat's Cove is basically a singular-ruin of a gloomy town," she offers, having realized Rina didn't seem to know of it. "It definitely has no treasure, though. Mostly sick folk that can't leave and more poverty than you can shake a dog at."

That's probably why she'd let her guard down here so easily. The stench of rot and despair that seemed to follow her around was nowhere to be found. It was like she'd stepped into a place that vaguely promised her security and safety.

Yet that feeling of being in a cage still hadn't left her, and she realized this place was no different. It could provide for her, sure. She would hardly go thirsty with small robots around, or hungry with a magical refrigerator. Estelle could easily curl up on the nice clean floor and take a nap, though she'd also seen at least a few comfortable enough chairs to sleep in. The cage existed because this place implied she'd be taken care of, but only if she dares not leave it. Venturing out into the world held no promise of comfort. Becoming complacent in such a place was easy, she knows, yet the danger lies in that complacency once she decides to leave.

If she's able to leave, of course.

That thought is pushed out of her mind before it has a chance to leave on its own. Estelle lifts her chin, speaking to the ceiling more than her companion as she calls out, "Can I get a strawberry lemonade, if you're around little bot guy?"

She pauses a moment before she wonders about something. "Wait, do I have to finish the first one before I ask for another?" That wasn't something she really wanted to do, considering how the alcohol always affected her stomach. And that drink had been a bit strong for her already from the few sips she'd taken.

Estelle speaks of the place she had come from, and Karina tilts her head to the side, curious for a moment. Spreading a bit more of the tzatziki on another torn piece of naan, she considers, then shrugs lightly.

"Most of the ruins I go to are very non-lived in places. The less life around the better. After all, the propensity for trouble when treasure hunting where things might already have staked claims..." She trails off, taking a bite of the naan and chewing carefully.

Gazing out towards the window of the kitchen, she looks over the scenery out there, her mind drifting slowly. Swallowing, she shakes her head and chuckles.

"And mostly... I'm looking for music related things. Old books. Old instruments. Manuscripts." She chuckles softly, taking another bite of her naan.

At the girl's order, and then her query about if she had to finish her other drink first, Karina shakes her head again. "Oh no. They'll just continue bringing you things. They are very good at what they do. Mostly." Hearing a clang against the door, she chuckles. "Yanno. Within reason."

The door manages to swing open and one of the bots comes zooming through, stopping beside the girl with a strawberry lemonade on it's tray. Since they were closer to the kitchen itself, the service was faster than it had been in the lounge area.

                                                        Small blessings, Karina supposed.

Estelle la Roune

Estelle hasn't been prepared at all for the little robot's entrance. She jumped in surprise, worrying she'd fall off her seat for a split second. She had been lost in thought to the meaning of what Karina had said. Something about claim had short circuited her brain a bit.

Estelle finally registered the rest of Karina's words, feeling her cheeks fill with color a bit. She hadn't meant to be distracted by such a small moment.

"I'm just glad these guys are helpful without wanting some random body part in exchange," she half joked. The robotic machines she had encountered were certainly fast from friendly.

"So what fun things are there to do around here, apart from eating and drinking?"

She looks at the girl, observing her as she got the drink from the bot, and her mannerisms otherwise. Karina had a great many things on her mind most days, but one of her favorite things was absolutely watching people.

Which ended up being a problem more often that she'd like to admit.

A small chuckle escapes at the joke that the bots didn't do things wanting anything in exchange. She was also rather glad they didn't want a random body part. Karina only had so many to spare, after all. And unlike some, she didn't grow them back willy nilly.

Then, at the question, she pauses in her munching, her eyes returning to Estelle. Things to do....

A smile spreads. "I guess that depends on your definition of fun." A pause as she licks tzatziki from her finger, considering. "Just nearby, there's the gardens to relax in with a waterfall. Forest you can wander through if you like hiking. Plenty of foraging out there to do as well. Beach and ocean to frolic in. Interesting caverns with stained glass in them to explore." Those were the things she did, anyway.

Not that she knew what most people thought was fun.

"Oh. And there's a library around here somewhere." One of the rooms upstairs was converted into one at some point. Carmine, she thought the name of the girl back then was? It had been too long. She'd have to find Leo and ask. "Oh. And there are rooms upstairs if you need a place to stay." She puts more sauce on a piece of naan, popping it into her mouth.

Estelle la Roune

Estelle was aware of Rina's fixed gaze on her. One does not survive harsh environments without a healthy sense of eyes on you, after all. It doesn't feel at all malicious, so Estelle puts it out of her mind. The curiosity was mutual, after all.

The younger girl listens intently at how scenic the place is through Karina's eyes. She would want to explore later, as her curiosity had been piqued. Still, she wanted to learn more from Karina herself.

"Wow, this place sounds beautiful," she observes, more matter-of-factly than she had intended. "I don't suppose there's a map of the area somewhere?"

Estelle rarely got lost, but considering the morning she has experienced, she wasn't about to chance wandering away just yet. A proper night's rest sounded like the best thing ever right now. Stuffing her face with a deviled egg, she tries to hide her excitement at spending the night. It was still morning, or so she thought.

Swallowing hard through the spices, she gulps some lemonade before speaking again. "So the bedrooms are upstairs, huh. How long do you usually stay on your visits here?"

Karina blinks at the idea of a map, tilting her head to the side. A map... Now that tickled something in her brain. Had she ever gotten a map done for here? There was some reason that she hadn't, right?

Then, it dawns on her. The reason that it was tickling the back of her mind. Chaos. This place was rife with it. The forest continually shifted, like a labyrinth. The caverns were places outside of time. The beach was the only constant, the ocean somehow negating the consequences of whatever had been done here.

However, that was something that perhaps wasn't great first impression conversation.

"I think that someone or the other was sketching up a basic map of the continent. It's up on a table in the library. Or... it should be." They had secured it down to the table so it wouldn't be taken. Glued to the surface to be worked on as they discovered new things about the place.

Valenti. It was a rather perplexing place, when all was said and done.

Perhaps the reason she kept coming back to it.

Though, at the query about how long she usually stayed here, she shakes her head. "Depends on why I am here, honestly. I can stay anywhere from a few days, to a year." She looks to the window again, her eyes softening.

"This... will probably be a longer stay this time. I don't have any contracts to get back to, after all..." Or at least, she was mostly sure she didn't.

The problem with not checking your mail is that you missed some rather nice business opportunities. And not having a phone meant that letters were the only way to reach her without making an in person visit.
