Kayde 8

The man laughed, again. He couldn't be aware of the thoughts that had just passed through her head, but he still liked to see her enjoying herself as much as she seemed to be. Sometimes Elka could be a very serious person most of the time. A lot considered her arrogant or stuck-up. He always saw it as just hiding a good heart. One that needed a little bit of kindness and coaxing to grow.

"Do you? What about me, as the dance partner? Maybe you should treat me for a change." Of course he wasn't serious and he trusted she wouldn't take his teasing the wrong way. His job was done. She had the truly hard part. There was little she would want for while she was carrying his child and suffering all that came with it. It was the least anyone could do in this situation.

Elka 9

Tease Elka was perfectly aware he was doing. He did little else to her but tease her, it seemed. In all the years of her knowing him. Sometimes she wished he could learn to be more serious more often. It did always make him come off as if he took everything for granted. And she didn't like others getting the wrong impression of him. She knew him as the most compassionate man, nay person, on the planet and everyone else should be made aware of this, if they weren't already.

Maybe if she were further along in her pregnancy, or it was early morning when she would be feeling sick, she'd have already started to tire of his jests. For now, she returned his smile, turning up her nose a little at him. "I think you already had your treat. Nothing about this will inconvenience you as it will me. So no. You should pamper me."

Kayde 9

There went the nose up in the air. Even in a joking mood, Elka could be so haughty and arrogant. Something that did annoy most people, but was never anything that got under Kayde's skin. To be fair, most things never did. He credited it to growing up in an orphanage, where he had become far more independent than a child should have been.

"I suppose I can't argue with that one," the man laughed, conceding defeat early. "I shall try my utmost to make you as comfortable as I can. Which shouldn't be too difficult in as grand a house as this." He waved his hands around the room.

Elka 10

Elka's enjoyment of the teasing dissolved at the sight of Kayde waving his hands around. She couldn't forget what bitterness he had showed her when she had first mentioned the manor to him, thinking he would be thrilled for the chance to upgrade, only to be met with the unexpected. She always worried that he still felt like that and was just masking it from her. It was always so hard to tell. The face he showed to everyone displayed nothing but smiles.

But that was just her hormones making her paranoid, again. Her husband was nothing but happy and carefree all the time. That truly was just his nature. She should know that by now.

Still, she couldn't resist asking. "Do you still hate the idea of living here?"

Kayde 10

The mood change also had an affect on Kayde, making him drop his own smile and adopt a look of concern in his pale eyes. He moved closer to his wife, reaching out with both hands to take her by the shoulders, looking steadily into her eyes. In truth, he didn't feel much resentment over the manor. If a piece of that bitterness still resided in him, it was so far deep down in his conscious to never be found ever again.

"No, love. I assure you. I am fine with the manor. I always understood its importance, even if it seemed the opposite." When she sighed in relief, he leaned over and kissed her forehead. It filled him with grief and regret to see her still so bothered by the ordeal. And why shouldn't she? He had been unforgiveable. "Are your feet tired? I know it's early, but you're still carrying more weight than usual. And a hot bath is exactly what is needed on a stormy day."
