Also to add to the pattern resource list.

Vogue has some amazing designer patterns
Check for a local fashion fabric store. Gail K near me carries patterns.
Etsy also may have some sewing patterns.

the only shop with fabric is a tiny one that is expensive, but thats ok cause i can't handle the patterned material she sales lol.
i managed to grab a few patterns for about a dollar each at a Jo-anns one day. at least all that i could find that would fit a person with extra weight. now just to find material for them.
i have too many projects that i need to force myself to focus on one and work on it.
(a purse, cosmetic bags, toddler blanket.)
had to stop for a few months since my sewing machine computer went out, the part is out of stock everywhere. So i got me a new one a few weeks ago, still learning it since its a different brand.
and thank you for offering help! i have a friend who i reached out to for help, she too went to designer school.
and that's cool that your doing something you love. me and my daughter sometimes show each other videos on costume making. (they make it look so simple ... xD )

I'm haphazardly making a quilt out of old tshirts. It is very messy and I am by no means a seamstress lol.

I took home-ec in 7th & 8th grades and have been sewing ever since. When I was 18 or 19 my mother bought me a really nice Singer and I still use it - never had any problems with it.

Nowadays I pretty much stick to alteration and repair but I used to make my own clothes when I wanted something very specific that just wasn't going to be found on a rack. When my daughter was little (ages 3-10) I made a lot of skirts for her because it was hard to find them. (this was before Internet shopping exploded) Most of the skirts we could find were too short so I would lengthen them.

that is awesome, i took home ec in middle school just before they ended it. didn't learn much since the teacher didn't want to teach but did get to make two small pillows in there.
right now i have been trying to boost myself up to pull the sewing machine back out and finish some projects. (this will sound silly but i am scared of the new sewing machine)

What about the machine scares you? Have you read the manual, or at least the parts that relate to what you're unsure of?

It's more powerful than my last. It's a Singer heavy duty, my first and baby was a brother runway edition (which died on me)
It also very fast. the reason i had loved my brother so much was i could be slow with it and and not feel rushed.
the singer is like some bar waitress on steroids who is shouting and slamming down 8 drinks in front of you at a time.

but...i know i needed a heavy duty to work on the some of the projects cause of the thickness of material. sweatdrop

So I have just gotten back into cross-stitching. I just finished my granddaughter's blanket. Took 10 months, but its gorgeous. I just need to put the fabric backing on now and it will be complete for Christmas. I am now looking for new patterns to do and want to do them on different colored/pattern fabrics instead of the usual white Aida fabric. Any suggestions? Thank you

thats awesome! i am working on two cross-stich projects at the moment myself. One is on cryptids and the other universal monsters.
I to wanted different colored aida, but none come in the size i needed. so i took the white aida and dyed it myself.
i did the marbled look that some places sell. i did one with a tan and the other grey.
there's a youtube video i followed if you want the link i can find it again.

Hey, i just recently got into it and want to do more.
But wanted to know if others Sew so i can ask questions

So I do cross-stitch. I have made 3 baby blankets, one for my son, two for my grandchildren and I am now in the process of starting another one for another grandson. I am getting back into doing embroidery and cross-stitch as gifts. So if you have any questions, let me know.

another thing you can try is to find patterned fabric you like, get some carbon or graphite paper and trace the pattern onto the fabric and then cross-stitch your design on the fabric. I am going to try this myself.

I used to attend a quilting and sewing group with my mum for some years and ended up making small things like pillow cases, table runners and a fabric advent calendar. I've also tried my hand at cross stitch and embroidery. But my mum is the real quilter and sewer in the family. I stopped attending sewing group when she left, because of my anxiety and the fact that the group is all much older women and it just wasn't the same.

I'll probably get back into sewing if I move to relocate closer to family. I'm on the waiting list with department of housing for a place in Brisbane. I do wish I knew how to make cosplay outfits and repair damages in my clothes, but sadly I don't really have much motivation or skill when it comes to sewing things myself. However, I admire all the work and effort that goes into crafting and sewing things, and I always love to see what other people have made. Whether it's a quilt, wall hanging, clothing or plushie.
